Recieved my new Taylor 73
« on: May 08, 2012, 07:55:21 PM »
Just beautiful, wood and color case. The fit and finish are perfect.

It didn't shoot all that well until I switched to titegroup, now it's better than me.

I'm thinking about a lyman #2 to help these old eyes and just wondering if any of you folks mount them like they did in the old days.

I've looked at many images and held a few originals and they all had 2 screw holes in the tang and didn't use the tang screw. I'd like to mount mine that way . Any thoughts, problems ect.

As allways thanks

Jack

Go here and do a little reading.  The only other readily available model is the Lyman #2.  The Marbles is a better sight and comes in many more configurations.

Thanks for the info

It's a 44-40 and it is sweet. barrel is 24 1/4" long.

All the #2 lymans I see say that they are for the uberti 73 which uses the tang screw, and as I said earlier, I don't won't to use the tang screw just because I'm hard to get along with  ;D I won't to do it the old way.  Does your #2 lymans have the same size screw holes front and back?

Rowdy, It shoots great, very accurate using lee 200 gr. bullet using  wheel weights and 6 grs. titegroup.  The first (3) 3 shot groups at 40 yds could easily be covered with a quarter shooting off the bench.

I do plan on taking it deer hunting this fall and for now it's smokeless but will be using black powder for hunting.

I've only shot a few with bp and that was off hand at rock in the road back in the woods.

I thinned the carrier , lever and trigger block springs and plan to work on hammer spring just a little also.
I really love this rifle and the 44 WFC.

By the way, I found that the lyman #2 sight for the uberti has the same hole spacing as original 73. the only difference is the screws.

Can't wait for the week end so I can shoot it some more.
