Title: 1st ever Nebraska Precinct Caper
Post by: Pitspitr on January 08, 2014, 06:14:14 PM
After a series of discussions with Hustler and G-Man I'm pleased to be able to announce the 1st ever Nebraska Precinct Caper. This will be a slightly different match than the AZSA World Championships that I've attended at Byres each of the last 2 years because of the terrain of the range it will be held at and the targets we have available for the match. It will be a 4 day, 2 match for the price of one event.  This will be held in conjunction with the 2014 Grand Army of the Frontier Grand Muster next June. http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,49069.0.html (http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,49069.0.html)  The AZSA portion of the weekend will begin Sunday afternoon June 29th and will end by evening on Monday June 30. Entry fees for both matches is $75. Meals are available on site.

Okay! I looked up the Lat and Long and am trying to see how close it actually is to a town with a good hotel to keep my lady happy. Any good suggestions?

Well depending on what you want to spend there's a really nice b&b within a"crow flys" mile. Otherwise there are a couple of nice mom & pop motels about 10 miles north or chain motels within 30 at Burwell, Ord, or Broken Bow

OK, I'm going to chime in here, I know some of you know me, but most likely some don't.  I'm Jerry's camp cook and as a heads up I'm planning the menu right now, it won't be set in stone for a while, but I have some ideas and am doing some research, the plan is a menu based on the time period.

What I want right now is to know if anyone going has any food allergies, I understand and will work around anyone like that.

I'll be in touch more as it gets nearer.

Well a lot will depend on summer school for her and that kind of thing. Not sure when it all starts and stops yet. Otherwise, I am betting on at least a day of the 2 being there, assuming they aren't traveling the world or something.

on at least a day of the 2
??? It's a 5 day event. Side matches Friday, GAF Main matches Saturday & Sunday morning. Zoot Main match Sunday afternoon and Monday. Registration fees for one match gets you registered for both. Of course nothing says you have to be there for all but.... I hope you want to be.

When I posted this earlier, I forgot about the new convention center in Broken Bow (about 30 miles)

Figure about 100 of each, but again we're using mostly knockdowns, sooo....

Pitsptr,

I don't know if I can make due to work, it but being optimistic:

Is there any camping on or near the range site?

The ammo is 100+ for rifle and 100+ for pistol, is there any count for shotgun?

What is the cost of the Zoot match? $35 Unfortunately, I don't have the time or accessories for the GAF match.

Are the capers set?

Are there any side matches?

Thanks,
Border Ruffian AKA Enforcer

Frank Hamer and I plan to attend both matches.  G Moll has to work.  One of these days I'll get around to mailing out the registration form.  Still working on the GAF uniforms and loads but we're planning on being there.

BR, if you've got cowboy guns, then you've got all you need for the GAF match. There is no uniform requirement.  No shotgun is used in either match.  Camping on the range.

No shotgun is used in either match.
Meaning the Main Match or the Expansion Era match of the GAF shoot. We will be using shotguns for the AZSA portion of the match if you choose. I usually just shoot the rifle pistol class but all AZSA classes will be available.

Registration is $75. That gets you into both matches, but it isn't any less if you only shoot one of the matches. It's 2 for the price of 1 but isn't half price. The point of doing this is to promote both disciplines and encourage people to try the other one that they've never tried before.

Yes there is camping on site and we even have a shower  ;D

I'm attaching a pdf with FAQ's and suggested equipment for the GAF portion of the match to this post.

As a note, do bring a mess kit, disposable ones are OK, but it increases the trash that has to be removed by a large facto.  We have facilities to wash these although you will have to do your own, we really don't have a Russian maid. ;)

Just a quick note about costumes for the Zoot match.  In an attempt to keep it from becoming a military reenactment sport (not that I think that’s bad) Hustler prohibited all military uniforms.  I convinced him to revise that to allow military uniforms if they had a relationship to the prohibition era.  Some examples would be Coast Guard, RCMP or Mexican Federalies.  If you want to wear a 20s or 30s uniform please be creative with your back story.

On the other hand AZSA costumes are really easy.  Just about any Good Will store (you may have to hit more than one) will provide most everything you need.  A bit oversized suit (single or double breasted, with or without a vest, the wider the lapels the better) will be great.  If you’re going to wear a tie with that suit remember to tie it short so it ends at about mid stomach.

How about knickers, very popular in the 20’s and not just for golf but that’s a great AZSA costume as well.  If you can’t find knickers any loose fitting pants bloused just below the knee with a big rubber band will give you the look.  Hang them from a pair of suspenders (even I can sew buttons on a pair of pants) and you’re good to go.

Button up shirts and sweaters were popular but t shirts weren’t.  As a matter of fact what the kids today call a “wife beater” was the t shirt style of choice in that time but noone would wear just a t shirt out of the house.

Everyone wore a hat and the first thing everyone thinks about is the fedora, but remember, the snap brim (driver style) hats were almost as popular.  In the west the cowboy hat never gave way to the fedora.  How about a straw boater or skimmer, this was the summer time hat of choice for many a man in the 20s and 30s.

Hope that helps.
