Title: Schofield Transfer bar
Post by: Cole Bluesteele on October 29, 2019, 10:27:54 AM
The revolver will not allow the hammer to be fully lowered.  It will drop when fired, but not if lowered by shooter.  The transfer bar engages when lowering the hammer so that the hammer rests in the safety notch.  Is this typical or is something worn out.

I must admit .... I'm at a loss here.  Every Schofield I've had occasion to play with had a Hammer mounted firing pin.  No Transfer bar????

I believe he's talking about the hammer block passive safety.  I got a Schofield cheap because the thing didn't work, removed it.

Drydock,

I suspect the same thing.
I removed all the hammer block safeties from ALL my repro S&W's.
My best,
 Blair

Thanks.  I have two.  opened them up and they are different systems.  Guess one is newer than the other.  Took it out of the newer one.  It was impossible to safely lower the hammer on an empty cylinder.

I've bought two new Cimarron Schofields in the last 14 months and yanked that safety out of both(identical parts) as soon as I got them home.
Both of mine tended to lock up if there was any pressure at all on the trigger while cocking the hammer. Sans safeties, they were much better.
