The Winchester Model 1876 / Re: 45-70 case to 45-60 case?

Do yourself a favor and find a buddy with a lathe. With a collet set up you could trim a bunch in no time flat, and they would all be precisely the same.

Never done it myself but I've read several times in this 76 forum where guy's will use a belt sander to thin down the rim. Must be careful not to take too much so as the primer to stick out too far.

The Winchester Model 1876 / 45-70 case to 45-60 case?

I did a search and could not find any information on how you guys turn down the 45-70 case rim to the size needed for the 1876 45-60 rifle. I can shorten the cases no problem, but I am having trouble figuring out how to turn the rims down. I don't have a lathe. How do you guys do it?

The Winchester Model 1876 / Re: I really need a 1876 mag tube?

Greetings all!  Little late to the gathering (as usual) but another possible source of materials is Mcmaster-carr ( https://www.mcmaster.com/ ).  Options are always good to have and if one source is out of something hopefully the others will have it!

Just another source for stuff, can't have to many!!

P.B.

Your welcome hope it works out for you ( Keep W W Grainger ) in mind when looking for almost any kind of stock material  . That is a beautiful rifle and I have no doubt it is handy . Small enough to be a saddle gun with plenty of punch . You have good taste Amigo . ,,,,,DT

Thanks Dusty, will do.  Finally got a mag button made up for my short tube.  Hopefully I have copied what you have done previous.  Changed the barrel out to a 24", 45-60 while I was at it. Looking forward to getting it all back together.  Just short the tube.

$100 for a 3' section delivered to my door.  Tube on the way!  Thanks much!

Yike$$ ------ that be steam tube or polished hydraulic tubing I guess??? good stuff and much stouter than what I used but blimey !!! savage on the back pocket...... sez ole cheapskate aussie!!!!

might need to re do the mag button ? they need to be a nice neat fit to the tube......

(all of this $$$talk is nothing considering the value of a decent 76)
I stumbled onto the curtain rod before I made it to the  engineering shop . (my excuse for bein cheap!)
