Doing an extra day shift at the Musuem today.
Haven't been a lot of visitors this week though, Spring Break lag I suspect.
Weather has been very nice, so folks are up to other activities.
Rain is forecasted today, tomorrow and Sunday, in fact it's raining hard now, so perhaps that will up the attendance. :-\
I received a donated, complete WW1 doughboy uniform with his helmet, overseas cap, 2 sets of leggings, gasmask & bag, and several photos of the Fellow in said uniform taken in France.
It will be dressed all out on a mannequin, and on display tomorrow.

Morning all.

40 degrees today. Yesterday ended up snowing for most of the day, though nothing stuck.

Today I have a long day at work, followed by a drive to Great Falls for my regular monthly Exodus. One would think they wouldn’t have me come in this weekend, considering that I have to come in next Friday anyway. But that’s above my pay grade

Major, that’s quite a donation. .

Rain brought the Spring Breaker's in, we had a very busy attendance, I expect Tomorrow will be the same... (rain forecasted)

The just donated WW1 doughboy exhibit is up,
and I'll be working on adding to the 2nd Seminole War "1836" exhibit tomorrow.

Hoping to acquire a few more artifacts, to start a tribute to the later 1870's-90's American Indian Warrior.
Not quite enough as yet, to tell the story  :-[

Well, we survived the week with the niece and g'kids. There is a reason God gives kids to young folks. We are both pretty worn out, but it was a great week. I had forgotten how much teenagers eat! I got to give my nephew and his wife credit, these are really well-raised kids and we loved having them around. Anyway gonna get a cup of coffee and get caught up on my forums.

Morning all. I’ll start the coffee and fry the bacon today.

Got a good dose of the white stuff last night. Didn’t stick to anything except cars, which is unfortunate for someone that works using a car. Currently it’s 25 degrees with a bit of a breeze, slight overcast.

I have an early job at work today, then I get to chauffeur a fellow down to take his commercial driving test. That’s about it for my plans for the day.

I got a call from my frendly LGS last Friday to come check out and appraise a few guns in a collection.
I was working at the Museum Friday & Sat., the LGS is closed Sun. & Mon. so today is my go to....

I don't know what the collection is yet, but I'll report back.

Edit: I'm back, something of a sad sight.
The collection was a 1941 Walther P38 w/ Waffen marks numbers matched.
A Ruby semi-automatic pistol of .32 ACP caliber made by Gabilondo y Urresti
and a  Smith & Wesson Model 1 ½ spur trigger top break revolver, .32 caliber, 3” barrel.

Sadly all three were rattle can painted simi gloss black.
The checkered wood Grips on the Ruby were covered in polyurethane
Both scales on the S&W were missing chips and one was cracked clear thru,
The P-38 might clean up, no clue what you'd find finish wise under it though?
(I'd strip the paint on all 3 and said so)
I'm sure the fellow that brought them in, will not like the low appraisal I gave for them.
But, it is what it is, Bubba -uped as they are  ::)  Not for the faint of heart, evert your eyes  :o

Oh! the P-38 had a holster (owner though was original) well it is, post-war German police issue.
You see them on eBay, for time to time.

Tonight -  40% chance of Scattered thunderstorms

same page forecast say's "Thunderstorms with a high of 89 °F"
and then also shows 0% rain ...

It's either or day I guess  :-\ Maters not , I'm working at the museum anyway  :)

Afternoon all.

Weather decided to give me one last nice day in Missoula before I get sent to the east coast. 60 degrees, not a cloud in the sky and a gentle breeze coming up the Clark Fork.

Now that I’m finished waxing poetic, I’ve spent the morning organizing the bills that require a true bank check in the mail so the Mrs. TK just has to place a stamp on the envelope and drop it in the box. It was quite a bit of work. Then the water on was spent packing and repacking my bags.

Major, tell the guy to soak them in Pinesol overnight, it should soften the paint up without destroying whatever blue might be left under the paint.

D, I did not offer any suggestions, other than estimate value...

The Ruby was not all that and has only minor interest to collectors.
The S&W shows some deep pitting under the paint, again no real major value there either.
I suggested the realistic values @ $100 for the Ruby and $100 for the Smith in that contrition.

Both of these are offered on the LGS Facebook page... https://www.facebook.com/Signalzerosupplies/

The P-38 might be worthy of removing the paint, I believe I'd go Mineral Spirits and/or acetone.
I don't see it offered, someone in the shop may have picked it up.
I was a bit more generous in it wholesale value.
I'll inquire,   update the P -38 sold for $500 ( right within the price I suggested $450-500 )

Currently 45 degrees and sunny in NJ. Todays agenda is live fire, which I have no problems with. Any day I get to flip the “giggle switch” on a firearm is a good day.

The Mrs informed me yesterday that one of our cars was broken into during the night. A friend from work went to investigate later in the day and found that nothing was missing inside, though the gas tank was missing about 5 gallons. As the descendants of Napoleon would say, “ce La ví.” :-\

Sunny and 40 degrees in NJ.

Love fire ended up with mixed results. First half went swimmingly. Then I get to one course of fire, and the trigger in my M4 broke, and my rifle emptied the entire magazine with one trigger pull and the selector on semi. Not what I expected, but it was pretty fun.  ::)

Then this morning walking back from breakfast I got called by an Army Sargent, to help him with calling a room to attention for a general. I did so, and then at the end asked why he chose me. The reason was because I was the first junior enlisted guy he saw when he got out of his car, and he didn’t feel like doing it himself. So I guess I can put “General’s Aide” on my resume now.

Dark rye, very dark with dill seed, dill weed and dill pickle juice, I think it needs sharp cheddar added.  Good with ham, Swiss cheese and mustard.

My club, Outlaw Camp, Heber Springs, AR, is hosting the State BP Championship this weekend. Gorgeous weather today, tomorrow is supposed to be just as nice. Good breezes helping the shooters!

Last night was ham and biscuits, Swiss cheese melted on top and honey mustard.

Still making progress, have not been to ER since Feb 27th, fired the Pulmonary Dr, going to go to Omaha to UNMC for that, Cardio and GP thinks it's a good idea.  We think my main problems now is the hiatal hernia we know is back, needs poked back down below the diaphragm like they did in 2015 and if not then corrective surgery.  Just can't breath bent over and it's getting worse, and that can cause it.  And I don't mean difficulty breathing, but really can't breath, try exhaling and tying you boots, getting a pan out of the oven or search for something in the bottom of the refrigerator.

Morning All.

Currently 55 and overcast in NJ. We’re sitting in the airport terminal waiting for our flight. In typical military fashion we had to be ready at 0400 for our 0630 bus ride for the 1000 boarding time. But hey, at least I got a cup of USO coffee out of the deal.

Is USO coffee better than any other coffee?

Mucking out the paddock with the tractor and back blade. Curried the horses.

I've heard it's better than boiler room coffee but you'd have to ask Dry Dock for sure. ;D

It’s several orders of magnitude better than the Army chow hall coffee they’ve been giving us in NJ.

Regarding the horse curry, I haven’t had to do any of that in two weeks. However, Mrs TK did three horses last night.

I made it to San Antonio yesterday. I’m staying about a block from where I went through basic training, and hearing the yelling going on is quite an experience on this side of my USAF career. Last night inside the gas station I had a relaxed conversation with an MTI, which is the first time that’s happened for me. Kind of weird.

Despite people claiming the world is going to hell in a handbasket, all politics are crooked, the world is getting warmer or colder, at least the climate is going to change, people killing each other in wars, criminals are everywhere, all stuff that has been going on before recorded time, and now just lately the Yuppies want to put dill pickles on everything and are starting to cause shortages. ::)

You can't even turn on the radio in the car because Top 40 music sucks.

Well there is hope, an Eagle, a Black Crow and a Beatle singing with Ray Wiley Hubbard, the sun will come up another day. ;D

Afternoon all.

First day of training in San Antone was a success. That’s about all there is to say on that topic.

Regarding music, I’ve been listening to Charley Pride over dinner. To answer one of his more famous questions, I did indeed go to San Antone, though Phoenix is out of the question right now.

Bread, chili and fried cabbage out of the kitchen today, last 2 a dangerous combo so it went in a bowl to rest, had some hydro tomatoes gave to us and Rita is on a low acid diet for a while, cancer scare, all fine but she has been eating to many maters, oranges and drinking to much Coke.  I found a year old vacuum sealed piece of cow to cut up and had onins and the spices, better than moldy tamaters, they stink. ;D

Ate some cabbage, got plenty to bag, did 3 heads in the 20" skillet. Promised my wife it would go back downstairs out of the way, but no maybe not.  Fried cabbage is a favored side dish of mine and not hers or the kid.  So I have it to microwave when I want it.

Nope, no beans, no elbow mac, no pineapple, no nothing that don't belong in pain simper 19th century chill, no green peppers of any kind, no bell peppers and no tofu or lentils, had to endure on time to be polite.   Also no store bought chili powder, 2 parts cumin, 1 each coriander, oregano and black pepper and 2 parts smoked paprika for color and a couple glops of my latest invention.  Very good, took 2 months but it quit bubbling, crushed common chilies often called japones  and the pequins and some smoked paprika for color also, brewed in Seville orange juice aka bitter/sour orange juice to get away from the vinegar taste.

Slow steady progress on the stalls rehab, acre of new paddock fence with gates & hotwire is installed.

Several cribbed-on boards are replaced, and I installed another gate to the backside paddock.

All that's left is everything else... Drive and connect the ground rod (elec. fence) and energize, I was waiting 3-4 days for the solar panel to charge the battery. A new ridge cap (someone younger, sprier and lighter to do that project, I'll supervise  :) )
The horse comes home at the end of the Month... already found out the wife and daughter are traveling
I get to feed detail twice a day for a week in May  ::) ) I figured that was coming  :-*

I also THOUGHT I was past horsing around at may age, I was pretty much finished, stove-up and put away wet several years ago.

River City John, just thought about this today, you remember giving it to me?  Often used item in my kitchen.

Texas is still Texas, it would appear. Currently 75 degrees and 50% humidity as of 0500 local time. I’m only here for another day and a half, which suits me just fine. I miss my mountains and my “normal roommates.”

Kinda slow day today at the U See Um,
though we do have small Desert Storm veterans reunion having good ol time in the auditorium.

There was a Brit in earlier , from Nottingham, UK he told me a story when he was just a lad.
A P-51 pilot, forced landed in his grandfathers field.
They helped him, and he gave them a sign cap, he has had it some 80 years.
He said when he gets home he will "post it to me for the Museum" and I asked he write the story up , and offered my many thanks.
That is a cool piece of History and personal account.  :)
