Title: How do you 'properly' remove an original 1892 mainspring?

As the title states -- What is the 'proper' technique for relieving the mainspring tension before removing screw, so that you do not round threads of screw?  Or what do you do?

Then as a follow up -- How do you reinstall the mainspring?

If you know of good video's please just post and I will watch. But I looked for them all yesterday.   One just unscrewed the mainspring while under tension and one suggested a leather/visegrips 'tip' to hold the mainspring in place while unscrewing.  None show a reassembly trick.

Here's a quote of the relevant section of David Chicoine's book, Gunsmithing Guns of the Old West:

(After removing the buttstock),
"Open the lever only far enough to give you access to the mainspring screw which is the rear-most screw on the lower action tang, loosen and remove the mainspring screw and the mainspring may be lifted out of its seat with the hammer stirrup and out of the frame."

There are no details given for reassembly of that part.  Maybe that will help.
