Some more 2 inchers.
« on: December 01, 2019, 03:27:54 PM »
Reloaded 125 regular 12 ga cas W-W loads so I thought I?d do 4 boxes of my 2 inchers while I was sitting at my Pacific. I had to think a bit but it came back to me. My old boxes are dated from 2 years ago. In case anyone is interested I use ww AA hulls cut down to 2 3/8 in but they could be a hair longer. A 209 primer, 1 oz of #9 shot in a Clay Buster1138-12 red wad over a #408 bushing of Clay Dot with a cdbd overshot wad. I can fit 7 of these in my 6 rd modded 97s, M12 and Marlin 24. My original loads used a #398 powder bushing but I needed more juice. They do as well as the full length as the only internal difference is the shot wad. I sacrificed an old aluminum mec final crimp die to shorten but have found that the shorter die works fine for my standard length shells too. I made a spacer for the short shell to reach the starter crimp die.

Is the overshot card serving as a spacer or to keep the #9 from escaping?  I don't recall encountering a reference to #9 shot before.

My shells usually have an opening where the folds don?t meet in the center. Rather than messing around with the cut length of the AA?s it?s easier to just drop in the card. I built my trim tool years ago from a piece of .22 barrel and a xacto blade, bottoms out in the bottom of the shell.

I do the same thing sort of....I use an antique roll crimper.  It works good, this is also great for old short chamber double guns or English bird guns.

Hey!!  See here, I resemble that.  I shoot a bunch of "Older" hammer doubles with short chambers.  I solved the problem by using ALL BRASS 12Ga hulls.  Don't gotta cut 'em down ner nothin.  Works a treat they does.
