They may or may not feed due  to length difference in the 73.  Try it and see.

I have an Uberti Henry that is chambered .45 Colt and it cycles .45 S&W perfectly.

Some revolvers do have an issue.  Rim diameter in the .45 S&W is .520".  .45 Colt rim diamter is .512".

With the larger rim diameter, some cylinders chambered for .45 Colt will not accept the larger .45 S&W rim.  It depends on how tight the engineering specs are on the charging holes.

One revolver I've experienced this with is the Beretta Laramie.

Schofields work fine in my Laramies, but will not fit in my R & D Conversion cylinders.

Hey Books,
I had trouble with my R&D fitting some 45 colt ammo.  It had champagne tastes and would only fit the expensive ammo and reloads, well they were hit an miss.  I called R&D, they said send it back and the reemed it out ever so slightly, fits all 45 colt ammo now.  Not sure what the O.D of 45Colt vs Schofield is, but if you have had sticky ammo in the past, R&D really stands behind their product.

I've got an old Bisley that I shoot at matches occasionally. I usually use Schofield brass in it, but it's a tight enough fit that the rims actually touch, sometimesthay even kind of "snap" into the chambers.

In my '66, scofields will work, IF you use a long enough bullet, and enough overall length. Some bullets have to be seated long, if seated so you crimp in the crimp groove, they're too short for the lifter.

Schofields cycle thru my Cimarron 73 and Henry, both were produced after 1998.  I have an early Cimarron short rifle that will not cycle the Schofield round.  I have not had any issues with the Schofield in any of my Colts or USFA.  My Colt pistols span all 3 generations.   When shooting BP I normally use the Schofield in my pistols.

You can get by with a set of .45 ACP if you already have them and the right shell holder.  If you dont have a set of 45 ACP, Lee makes a cheap set that are OK for what we do.

I use the shellholder out of my 30-40 Krag set, with .45ACP dies.
