I made a lower offer on a stock on Gunbroker, and the guy blocked me from communicating with him!  The silly thing is if he'd just said a polite "No, thanks.", I'd have given him the opening bid.  It also seems a lot of sellers online anymore can't be bothered to answer simple questions about an item.  Perhaps just another symptom of the collapse of society..............

Politeness, sadly, is becoming more and more rare. I'll bet he would have been more polite meeting you face to face Ned!

Did you use the Gunbroker "make offer" feature, or did you just send a message offering to pay less?  If you clicked "make offer" that makes absolutely no sense.  If you just sent a message offering to pay less, it's still very unprofessional, but GunBroker did recently start a campaign to crack down on sales that don't go through their site.  So if the seller thought you were offering to buy it off-GunBroker, he may have blocked you out of fear of getting banned.  Obviously a better way would be to just politely message back and decline.

If you did offer to buy it off-GunBroker, or if you included any personal contact info in your message, it's quite possible that GunBroker, not the seller, blocked it and disabled you from messaging the seller unless you actually buy the item.

Nope.  No personal info or anything.  Most people, if they want to make a deal, just change it to "Buy it now" with the agreed price.  Just seems like more and more people don't even want to answer a question.  Just a sign of the times, I guess.

Yeah, no call for him to ignore or block you.

more and more people are scamming on GB too, and GB is rarely policing.

Very true.  They have increased algorithms to screen out certain messages/listings, but that's very different from actually engaging with scam situations.

I've had much better luck on Guns International, no auction foolishness. Set price, take it or leave it and better still seldom any sales tax.

Niederlander

I like the idea of a price, but many on that one are WAY overpriced.

Yeah, that's true too,

Milsurps have headed toward the stratosphere.

One thing you have to say about auction sites is they reflect what the actual going price for something is.  If it sold, that's what it's worth to someone.  Especially if you see several sell at that price.

Agreed, auctions do set what it's worth to someone.

My final GB transaction in 2021 (and will continue final)
there were several bids and bidders, it got down to 3 then 2
My CAP. bid was just $7 over the other bidder when the gavel fell.
I was satisfied it was fair

Sadly GB isn't safe from scammers these days.

"completed auctions" on GunBroker, was the main research tool for setting the price of used pieces that came in the gun store I worked at. That, and if a fairly new gun, what we could buy one for at wholesale. I don't think the Blue Book of Gun Values was ever consulted. I've had a dealer friend sell quite a few for me on G.B. and been satisfied with the results.
