Top, put that tooth on yer watch chain, and tell people you yanked it outta the mouth of someone who ticked you off.  :D

Curley, I was in HS the same years as you. Dundalk, MD, just outside the city limits of Baltimore, was occupied mostly by steel workers at Bethlehem's Sparrows Point plant. There was tremendous segregation everywhere--at "the Point," in the schools, and certainly in housing. Looking back, it was strange. But no less strange than today, just in a different way. Where I live now, it's possible to go to a Wal-Mart and wonder whether you're still in the USA, what with all the different languages and accents that surround you. I'd never advocate going back to the segregated society of old, but when I go out in public, I sometimes feel like I'm the foreigner...

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it need sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know why nobody told you
how to unfold you love
I don't know how someone controlled you
they bought and sold you

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know how you were diverted
you were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
no one alerted you

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at you all
Still my guitar gently weeps

Oh, oh, oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
yeah yeah yeah yeah

that was a good'n Miz Lee,
This has been a knot tier ever since I was yanked outta bed this morning, It just seems like it won't end...
Want to go home, stick my feets in the air and just relax a bit. Might put some tunes on and just leave the tube off all together.

Top, You don't have the Christmas album cuz you told me you just refused to buy Christmas albums...or did you forget that stand. Their C'mas album wasn't that good anyways..
Now, EmmyLou Harris has a good c'mas album....Some of her tunes makes yer skin tingle....
might have to play that one just to start to get in the spirit..

I know, I am up far too early... again! But I've taken some tylenol and maybe if I can beat back this headache, I'll go back to bed. But in the meantime...

Now if you feel that you can't go on
Because all your hope is gone
And your life is filled with confusion
And happiness is just an illusion
And your world around is tumblin' down
Darling, reach out
Reach out, for me.
I'll be there to love and comfort you...(tell me baby)
I'll be there with the love I'll see you through
Now when you're lost and about to give up
'cause your best just ain't good enough
and you feel the world has grown cold
and you're driftin' on your own
when you need a hand to hold
darling, reach out
reach out, for me.
I'll be there to love and comfort you
I'll be there with the love I'll see you through
I'll be there to love and comfort you
I'll be there to with the love I'll see you through
I can tell you the way I hang your head
Now with out of love , now you're afraid
And through your tears you look around
But there's no peace of mind to be found
I know what you're thinking
Witout love, now you're alone
Baby, reach out
Reach out for me
I'll be there to love and comfort you
I'll be there with the Love I'll see you through
I'll be there to love and confort you ...(tell me baby)
I'll be there to always see you through...(i'll be there)
I'll be there to love and comfort you
I'll be there with the love I'll see you through.

Annie, that could be used as a Christian song, couldn't it?

Must be the change in the weather. I couldn't get to sleep, then couldn't stay asleep without having nasty dreams. Shoulda had sense enough to get up at 6, when the dogs awoke to go outside, but I slept until 9, and now I'll be groggy most of the day. That's the downside of not having a 5 day a week job: you turn into a slug. Or at least Peg and I have. My sister is retired and usually up early, and Mom is awake doing stuff all hours of the night.

Book, while the song could be said to be one about faith, so could apply to any religion, I don't see anything in it that would mark it as specifically Christian.

My tylenol kicked in and I went back to bed. It was lovely.

Annie, some other religions might embody that sentiment, but not every flavor of "god" does.

But let's not turn this into one of those Rugged Individualist type discussions... ;)

Book, I was merely replying to your question. I have no desire to insert politics or religion into this thread, I'd rather be posting lyrics. Have you got any to post?

Does yer chewin' gum lose its flavor
On the bedpost overnight?
When yer mama sez "Don't chew it!"
Do you swallow it in spite?
Do you catch it on yer tonsils,
And heave it left and right?
Does yer chewin' gum lose its flavor
On the bedpost over night?

(the only lyrics I could recall by heart, offhand)

Ok, ok, here's an elk for you!

<mumbles "dang demanding cousins..." >

Your Mother's Here To Stay
It's very clear: your mother's here to stay.
Not just a year, but ever and a day.
She came to stay just for Mother's Day,
With the kids and you and me,
And that was Mother's Day of 1953.
If it appears that I've become a grouch,
It's all these years of sleeping on trhe couch.
I hear Gibraltar just tumbled, the Rockies just crumbled,
I knew they'd go some day, but
Your mother's here to stay.
If she'd go back, if she'd just say goodbye,
I'd help her pack, and as she left, I'd cry.
She just complains, with her aches and pains,
And here arteries are hard.
How come she's out there playing leap frog in the yard?
Her evening snack would feed a herd of elk.
Then she sits back, and watches Lawrence Welk.
I'm taking you and the cherubs, and just like the Arabs,
We'll silently steal away, and
Leave Mother here to stay.

:)

Book,
We did "chewing gum" before, but just for you  here is a line from it that I love:

"If a tin whistle is made of tin.....
Then what is a foghorn made of...."

drum-rimshot please.....

Lemme try this again. I'd typed it from memory, then forgot to post it! I assume moldy old stuff like Jerome Kern songs are fair game here...

Men are called deceivers ever, and women flirt with passion.
One true love that lasts forever is surely out of fashion.
Moonlit kisses under a pale sky; flames that turn to ashes and then die.
All too soon the lips that kiss must learn to say goodbye.

Once in a Blue Moon, you will meet the Right One.
Once in a Blue Moon there's a pure Delight One.
Then, with a thrill, you know that love is true.
Once in a blue moon, when the moon is new.

You can see by my outfit that i am a cowboy too,
-Get yer self an out fit and be a cowboy too....

Kingston Trio did it so well,

I beat Old Top with my hat, so it may take him a bit to recover.

Meahwhile, do you know this one?

"Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
..."

there is the Kingston Trio variation of Hangman:

Hangman hangman, slack your rope awhile
I think I see my wife riding..ggrssschokef...

dumb, I know but I hurt like the dickens today, and it is begining to wear me down a bits...

Oh, I was probably someplace where I don't belong, but Old Top busted me in there, so I beat him with my hat.

Here's another snippet of the song:

Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, where have you been, my darling young one?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains,
I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways,
I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests,
I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans,
I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard,

Can you guess it now?
