Morning all.
Trip to Helena on Monday was a success. We now have our horse trailer in Missoula. Now the joys of getting it titled and registered.
Today’s agenda includes lots of pumping. I think I have 5 jobs today, normally I have 3.

Thanks but no thanks , its coming soon enough , beside all we have to trade is Tropical Force winds when they start marching in ::)
Hurricane season began today. Fortunately, all is quiet so far and there are no storms in sight for at least the next five days.
Right now its low to mid 70's and breezy .- 25% rain tonight maybe :-\
Tomorrow calls for just 86° w/ 35% showers
-
Back again, prednisone messed up my Glucose and it went to 365, think we got it tamed. ::) I've had better day but I've had worse. BP is back right, O2 a little low but not bad.
-
Morning y'all.
Coffee and tea are ready.
Don't need Tropical Force winds. Get enough tornadoes.
'Tis 62 and sunny. "Mostly sunny in the morning then mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the middle 80s. West wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent."

BP 120/66, O2 is 95 and Glucose is 185, a little high yet for morning but with luck it will be normal by tomorrow, Rita bought me 4 pints of Culvers Carmel Cashew the other day and maybe I can have at least half of one.

Checked out our storm weather patterns from Thursday.
No rain, and sunny skies here at the house. Lawn trying to croak from thirst.
Heavy rain and Th’orms (thunderstorms) 1.5 miles away. East Southeast.
Extreme heavy rain and street flooding 4 miles away. East.
We say here, “If you don’t like the weather, just drive 5 minutes in any direction, and it’ll change”!
-
On our 3rd day without rain here, longest "dry spell" we've had for at least a month.
forecast wild guess is for rain for the next 6 days. Doing some dirt work in the yard, smoothing out the septic installation done late last fall. 80 HP farm tractor with a rear blade and front loader are handy, but not as easy to use as a bobcat, for this kind of work. But I have a tractor, and no bobcat. Sure beats doing it all with a rake, shovel and wheelbarrow. garden work later, even though it's still not really dry enough to work, but it's as dry as it's gonna get for a while.

Weather Guessers were wrong, so far. Had about 5-6 drops of rain fall while I was mowing.

We hit those same 7-8 drops coming through Olathe on the way home from the NCOWS National.

Went to a shoot today, was 92 degrees in the sun, but we were in a nicely shaded area where it was 80. I won my category and placed in the top 6...Because there were only 6 of us there ;D ;D.The Tri-State SASS championship was also this weekend.

The wife is on her way back to Milwaukee for about 6 weeks. I could send some back with her, but she doesn’t leave until the 28th month, and by that time we’ll be back in the upper nineties.
I guess I’ll have to try and get the Jetstream to divert a tad North to get some up to you.

My NRA yearly membership is up in July :-\
I'm undecided "if" I'll rejoin ....
The magazine (AR) is not very good , I have enough Chinese knockoff knifes , ballcaps which I don't even wear and an el cheapo
quasi so called range bag (also unused)
Seems to me they could , exclude all the bait kitsch , the SEVERAL mailings to rejoin postage ( even though I'm already a member)
the phone calls 2-3 times a month ( again I'm already a member) !
and use the money for the real fight :(
-
Mine is also up in July. Not renewing unless Wayne is gone. >:(
I'll probably give the money to GOA.
Slim
-
Got tired of Wayne years ago, they need a lot of work to get me back. I think they are just another swamp monster, window dressing to make some people rich. Have had a lot mad at me for that for years, seems more are seeing what I saw years ago.
My rant for today, much needed rain, not sure how much, have to put a new soup or rather since it's in the kitchen, kraut can out. Don't need it to 100ths, I can see a 1/4 or 1/2 inch close enough.
Got new coffee will open tomorrow, do I need Fruit Loops to go with it? ::)
-
Main reason I was a NRA member as it was required for the Range I was member of....
I quit that membership after 2018 when they went to $200 a year + the NRA admission ... The County range is $12 all day and is both more modern and closer.
beside I have my own home gallery ....sooooo Sayônara.
No fan of LaPierre...

50 miles away, can get 300 yards, unlock the gate, backstop rebuild a few years ago, 50 yard range behind the trailer house.
Second one can go 800, is 200 miles away, but a cabin I can sleep in, fee is bring a couple ovens and fix a couple meals.

Sunshine and 76 here, high supposed to be 92. Biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Extra chunky gravy, won't have to strain it to find the sausage!
Slim, didn't you use a Win 94 in 38-55 at the muster a year or two ago? How'd it do for the 300 yard gong? What I'm reading online says if I sight it 1 1/2" high at 100, it'll drop something like 75 inches at 300! Don't think the standard barrel mounted sight will get me that much elevation.
-
Having some iced tea, now.
It is a 1893 Marlin in .38-55 w/ 26" barrel. The 250gr bullet is probably going 1400 fps. I think I raised the sight all the way and walked it in. Those targets are at least 36" tall.
Slim
-
Thanks, Slim. I was going to use my 30-30, but due to my usual procrastination, I find myself without enough proper bullets for it, and no mold. Was going to try and use some 180 grain rn from a Lee mold, but...the nose is too long to feed through the action. But I do have a couple hundred bullets for the 38-55, and a set of dies I've had for 20 years, and never used. Only have 60 cases for it, but I've got a couple hundred once fired 30-30 cases someone gave me I can re-size.
-
Sounds like a good plan.
Slim
-
Sometimes plans change. I was looking for something else in my
reloading shed junk shed, and came across a box of .310, 165gr flat point bullets purchased eons ago. Which is a good thing, because the .38-55 bullets I have are .380 diameter, cases are Winchester, and just like the interwebs warned me might happen, that combination won't chamber in my rifle. Needs a smaller bullet, or thinner case(Starline), or it might work with resized 30-30 cases. Fortunately, I only loaded one round to check the fit.
-
The fun of reloading.
I'm loading skirmish loads for .30-06 right now.

Toast and coffee this morning to change up from Corn Flakes ...
50% Rain expected today about 1PM , got 0.38 of an inch yesterday, in two separate heavy downpours.
Thinking of hitting the BBQ place for lunch, the plan however is only set in wet concrete :-\
but has a high probability...

Morning all.
Broken clouds and 71 right now, heading north of the 90 mark.
Had an interesting experience while walking the dog along the river today. A trio of fellows with an apparent bent toward hooliganism began following us at a rapidly decreasing distance. The dog suddenly took interest in the smell of a flower along the path, giving me an opportunity to face these moral degenerates and have a staring contest. One was wearing a knife, which he had his hand wrapped around. The hem of my sweater became a temporary handkerchief, which incidentally exposed the freshly waxed butt of my J-frame. They soon took an interest in the other path, and local authorities were informed of the incident.

Hmmm BBQ was closed ...that's news to me ???
There is another BBQ joint at the other end of town, but to get there I'd have to pass the Catfish Place...I didn't ;D

Slim, as per discussion the other night when I went to hang my flag I saw stuff behind the holder, was a web like this, empty bug of some kind in it it, no spider. Removed web and will look before removing the flag. And that is why you hang the roll under, not over, despite Miz Manners and her crap. They like outhouses but they can wander inside. Probally a bunch under the porch, but I'm not going and looking, they are very mild mannered and only bite if abused. ::)

First time selling at a local [35 mi each way] gunshow this past weekend. Met some nice folks selling next to me and while it was slow at times it was ok. Talked to a bunch of folks and saw a couple of guys that I’ve worked with for 30 years but haven’t seen them since I retired. Grossed almost $400.00 worth of mostly reloading stuff that was given to me or stuff that I didn’t need anymore. A guy who bought 100.00 worth of stuff from me came back to show me a knife he had bought for ‘15’, I asked 1500.00, he said no- 15 dollars. It was a 4 inch blade Randall with a brass guard, stag grips and a worn sheath. Still had the factory edge on it, blade was immaculate. I’m sure it’s worth a lot more than 15.00. Standing around is hard work, Saturday was awful hot but Sunday was ok. Wouldn’t want to do that every weekend.

High of 75 here today. Not too bad for working. Been having trouble with my work truck, so I’ve been driving the old, beat up one. First and second gears don’t work well, and in a 6 speed truck, that’s a bit difficult to manage. Next week I’m getting The Big Boy Truck, the 4200 gallon Kenworth. The transmission works at least.

Now 93 and no chance of rain here, when the water tuned off early last week, it turned OFF! Took off several days this week to finally start working on finishing up things around our new to us double wide. Been laying block, but only early morning and mid afternoon on to evening. No shade except from the house itself, so I work on the west and south side in the morning, and on the east end and some on the south side in the evening. This time of the year, the north side is in the sun pretty much all day, that part will be rough.

Afternoon all.
88 here today. Not too bad, but still supposed to get over 100 next week.
Had anyone heard from Roo recently? I was putzing around on YouTube a minute ago and happened across a comment he had left on a video from a while back.

Arrived back at home from Muster. Had a good time, weather was good, a few showers but not as hot as it sometimes is. Good to see Delmonico again, and meet Rita, missed Slim and Micah, though.

Missed seeing everyone. But, the first GAF Division of Wisconsin Muster was held today at the Silver Creek Ranch.

Hate to say, I just got up but it was getting fairly light when I went to bed, got an eye of round I cooked for samwhiches, wanted some good bread to go with it and invented a Red Neck Artisan bread I named Herbert W Brioche bread, nothing political about it, just similar names do to the herbs, the whole wheat and me finally deciding to find out what is this brioche bread the fast food places are telling you they will shove out at you. ::)
Anyway the draft for the recipe is done, will post it later it is one of my best pieces of work. Of course I had to let it cool enough to slice and sample. ;D

Looks good.

It do...real butter I'm guessing ?

Of course. ;D
Herbert W. Brioche Bread
Heard an ad for some place that serves window food advertising a chicken sandwich on something called Brioche Bread, something I keep hearing about. Well figuring it’s something kinda Yuppie I decided to use Google and find out what it was and if it was something an old long haired redneck could make.
Well to my surprise it wasn't something using rare and exotic ingredients I had to go to some specialty store to buy, but just a plain old egg and milk based bread shortened with butter, with a fancy French name, dang, I’ve made that before, nothing new here.
This was disappointing because I was all ready to try something new and modern so I started searching the kitchen to see what I could find to make something a bit more fancy. First idea was whole wheat is popular among the in crowd, problem is that the whole wheat flour I had the old kind of red wheat whole wheat flour and not the new improved white whet flour that doesn’t look like or taste like traditional whole wheat, but more like white bread. (Don’t ask me, I don’t start these trends.) Well there is the “I was doing it before it was cool” so I decided to add a bit of hipster to my Yuppie bread.
With that solved I decided to make it an herbal bread and started checking my leaf supply. Found some thyme, some oregano, some dill weed, some dried onion stuff and a whole new bottle of rosemary, cool, I’ll do heavy on the rosemary and use the others to accent it. That will sound cool in a recipe.
I started by scalding around 2 cups of milk, this kills an enzyme in the milk that interferes with the yeast growth, pasteurizing should take care of it, but not always, so I always scald to be sure. The milk was put in the big bowl and covered with one of my large bread covers, these are large and colorful, the color because they look good in my camp pictures and big enough to cover a dishpan and tuck under to keep the wind from blowing them off. The scalded milk is let cool off to a bit over a 100F or about body temp with a good fever.
When cooled enough I get out my jar of yeast and shake out enough on top to just cover the top of the liquid used no matter what type of bread I am making. This is stirred in with a little white flour a little brown sugar(white sugar ain’t cool.) and then covered till it is nice and bubbly. This activates and excites the yeast, excited yeast works better, this is called proofing.
When the yeast is going good I added the herbs and the butter and stir it in, this gives the herbs time to rehydrate with out getting soggy and allows the butter to soften a bit more. I then add about 5 cups of the whole wheat flour and stir it in, this makes a soft dough called a sponge and this is also covered and let to rise while I make supper because the wife and I are hungry.
After about an hour I check on it and see not only has it risen nicely but I also forgot the egg in my hurry to make supper, leaving me with two choices, one is forget my fancy French named bread or add the egg now. Since it is still a soft sponge I chose to add my egg and stir it in.
Going to the refrigerator I grab a carton of eggs and open them, and find I have just brown eggs in it, sometimes they have blue green ones or white ones or a mix of all three. This is good because brown eggs are in style today despite the shell color not making the egg inside different than a white one, at one time white eggs were considered better, now for some reason brown is considered better and cost more. Sadly in the ultimate search for cool they were not “Free Range Organic” but just regular old farm eggs from yard birds since they run around in my brother in laws yard. But they were free instead of $5 a dozen so I went with cheap.
I decided to just use the yolks since they are richer and me hoping this compensates for not having the desired free range type. They were easy to stir in and then I added about 3 cups of white flour because I want real good loft in this loaf, something even my high gluten whole wheat won’t do with out help. This is kneaded well and allowed to rest and rise about an hour, it should double in size.
I got out a skillet to bake it in because even though I have used cast iron for the almost 60 years I have been cooking, cast iron wasn't cool till recently when it was rediscovered by the in crowd. This skillet is a 10 inch and I used aerosol olive oil on it to keep the bread from sticking, but I didn’t have no fancy main brand, just the cheap store brand. I probably should have sprinkled the pan with cornmeal but bread won’t stick to an oiled skillet that’s well seasoned. Although it don’t say it on the front label the olive oil has not even had a naughty thought, that’s what the extra stands for.
I also got another of them brown eggs and cracked it into a cup but this time used the whole eggs. I added a couple tablespoons of water and beat it well and found my food grade paint brush. I then kneaded the risen dough well and formed a loaf and put it in the skillet and painted the bread with the egg wash while the oven was warming to 375F. Had I made more dough I would have divided it for more loaves. I chose 375F so I would have a softer crust and there would also be less chance of the egg wash burning.
Because of the size of this loaf it took one hour to bake and was then removed from the oven and removed from the skillet and then I had to let is cool before I cut a piece of and covered it with butter, just to see if it was ok.
Looking at it I may have failed and have just an ordinary instead of the artisan bread I was trying to make, if you look at the finished product it does not have that cracked and ugly appearance true artisan bread is supposed to have based on the pictures I see as well as no big holes to let stuff drip out. I will say it’s good bread and I have a whole eye of round I cooked up for sandwiches, it should go well.
Since everything also has to have a fancy name anymore I have named this Herbert W Brioche Bread, any resemblance in name to a former President is accidental.

That is going to be part of my teaching how make yeast breads, the proper kneading makes good looking bread with out holes, making crappy bread and calling it artisan makes me think it belongs in a modern art museum hung upside down because nobody knew. ::)

Yeow that's HOT
It been weirdly coolish for Florida in the summer, its 83° now with the passing of a brief thunder storm.
But we have not reach 89° in the few days , yesterday was 89° and sunny all day, no rain ( which is unusual )

Took the wife to the airport this morning (took 20 min to get there, then she had a 2+ hr. wait before flight time). Made it to O’Hare on time despite T-stom threats. Now she’s been stuck for an extra 2 hrs. by those T-stoms in O’Hare. May make it to MKE by 6:30 tonight. She got up around 3:00 PST this morning, so it's making for a very looonnng day.
We shall see what time she makes it to her Mom’s house!
Just have a sunny 100 degrees here with only a 12% humidity, with severe clear. Not too bad for me!

Afternoon all.
Hot one here today, 102, 30% humidity. Made for a fun day at work. I still have one more job tonight, at 10.
