The Powder Room - CAS reloading / Re: WW231 in 44-40 RIFLE ?

A better load for rifles in 44 WCF is the 200 grain powder coated lead flat point bullet over 14.7 grains of 2400. It will easily surpass the velocity and accuracy of 231 loads in a rifle.

The load that shoots to point of aim on my revolver is 6.5 Grains of Unique powder in a 44 Russian case with a powder coated Lead Semi Wadcutter 240 grain from my local reloading store. I am using Starline brass. Primers are Federal Large Magnum.

"That's gonna be hard to find at any kind of reasonable price"   Unfortunately, Cowboy brass seems to be made of either gold or unobtanium at the present time.  Just like L.R. and L.P. primers.

Primers are available in all sizes at your local Bass Pro or Cabelas. I had to quit buying them as I am pretty sure I have a lifetime supply. With tax they are around $77 / 1000.

Looks like a great load. I wouldn't change a thing. I have one of those revolvers too and it is also quite accurate.

Great report, thanks for sharing!!!

I think the best rifle/revolver combo load for accuracy and power, is black powder!

I talked to Mike at VTI day before yesterday and ordered a part. He is definitely in full swing with the parts business.
