Shot a match in Pa this past Sunday, 36 shooters, I was 1st in Silver Senior and 8th overall. 1 miss, would have been 6th overall without it.

243, bought it new in 82.   Actually one of those cheaper 99Es after a wood rasp removed the wood they forgot to.  ::)  Probably got rid of a 1/2 pound and it feels like a rifle, not a club.  A lot of work on bedding and some trigger. If I do my part it will do right at 1/2 moa with ammo it likes. Very picky. It actually likes the 80 some gr Barnes and similar and since I like the solid copper it's no big deal and the 87 gr BTHP from Hornaday works very good so a good varmint load.

May try a deer one last time this year and if I'm around next year, I'll try again. Last tour, like a geriatric Rock and Roller.   ;D

Test driving hearing aids today.

30 years ago the guy who has the tones and you point to the ear, told me I'm about as deaf as a fence post and that hearing aids would not help much and would cost more than a couple nice rifles. Also won't help a whole lot do to my mess.  OK, then talk louder.  ;D

Over the years people keep telling me I need them, but never offer to pay when I ask them.  ::) Cheaper for you to speak up.  ::)

Now the last 3/4 years people tell me they have ones that are not expensive and you can adjust them yourself for tones. Sounded cool but this was just a rumor, no one of them had actually bought and tried them. Well that's as about as useful as an old useless saying.  ;D

Well in  the crowded room for my 50th HS thing we got to discussing hearing aids and several admitted to having cheap ones off Amazon and loving them.

So for the price of a box of cheap pistol ammo I ordered a set.

Charged them, looked at the book and the Q what ever code to tune them and so just popped them in, wow.

Will play with tuning but I heard it, the lyrics people were right, Ray Wiley has tall Cuban heels.  ;D I thought he was without.

I am wearing old boots with high cuban heels
Our souls they are worn and we stand here by grace
My trousers are torn and my jacket is borrowed
I am wearing my time behind the eyes in my face

Chorus:
I am not looking for loose diamonds
Or pretty girls with crosses around their necks
I don't want for roses or water, I am not looking for God
I am not looking for sex

I've worn out my welcome in certain small circles
In Spanish bordellos and confederate states
But there is an angel in leathers and kindness
Who whispers my name beyond heaven's gate

Chorus

Bridge:
All the true believers are out on the road tonite
No matter what happens, you know they'll be okay
And to the rock and roll gypsies may the last song you sing
Be by Townes Van Zandt and down in old Santa Fe

Now I have a mission and a small code of honor
To stand and deliver by whatever measures
And the message I give is from this old poet
He said "Our fears are like dragons guarding our most precious treasures?

Chorus

LOL Ray talks about how most who know him are shocked to find out he wrote "Up against the Wall."  They thought Jerry Jeff or Roger P did.  ;D  and even better he still gets a decent check every 6 months.

If you already don't, listen to Ray, he's a national treasure from the Outlaw Era.

I've listened this song since his 94 album, always liked it. Listened to it very carefully recently and that last line really in the chorus got to me. He changed it in the last chorus.

He's doing a lot of stuff with others now also.

Discovered this one in 2022 when I was in the hospital for 40 some days.

For those who don't know it, Ray has a masters in English lit and one of the few that seems to put it to good use.  ;D

This one means a lot, one of PF's best and they only cover of any of their music I like the cover better.  The steel just finishes it.  I like Cody anyway.

I have the dust again. the 30th will be a year. She liked this version also.

The story behind the original is very interesting, was it a coincidence Syd Showed up for the recording or was it planned by someone?

Quote from: Delmonico on August 12, 2025, 01:13:37 PMDang, how heavy is your 243? Mine weights a bit over 7 pounds and was made when the Prez was a P Nut farmer, even has real wood, Ugly wood but real unglued together wood.  The black nylon ammo carrier has went away.  ;)  Really wasn't needed.
My 243 is about 12 lbs ::) it's a 1969 Ruger M77 with a Varmint barrel and the bench style fore end. Blued steel and hardwood. I have a Vortex 4-16x scope on it.

My 280 is lighter, 8lbs. Winchester M70 Featherweight, also with blue steel and Maple stock. It has a 4-12x Vortex scope.

I would like an old H&R single shot in something like 257 Roberts or 7mm Mauser though. Lower pressure/recoil cartridge with just a little more leg than my 30-30, in a nice light rifle and a light fixed power 2x or 4x scope.

Or just a High Wall in 50-110. There is no in between ::)

Thanks Del, the 243 is one of my favorite cartridges, took a lot of coyotes a lot of years ago with a Remington 700 back in Illinois. And your pup is a definite looker!
Wow, hit 101 here today, I don't know what the Heat Index was. So we decided that today would be a good day to go shopping...yeah. Anyway picked up a Model Railroad magazine with a friend's article in it. Then we went to Texas Road House for an early dinner, the pork chops were delicious.

I finally got around to fixing the damage to the bumper on my car. I found some vinyl with an adhesive backing at Michaels that is reasonably close to the color.

As I mentioned, I received an estimate of $4200 to fix it. The car's only worth around $6000. This fix isn't perfect, but it will do for now. I'm going to redo it and have some ideas to make it look better. Maybe a bigger patch to match the lines of the fender?

Not bad, I can't see it from my house  ;D

A friend of mine's wife was rearended by a puke on his cell phone.
Hers was 2025 KIA Sportage just 3 months old, His, an uninsured 2002 Toyota Yaris (crap box)

He was doing 65, she the 45 MPH speed limit, closing speed 20
MPH....
Short story, the Yaris was destroyed to the firewall.
Hers, the rear bumper and hatch crumpled,,,
Still, the KIA was deemed totaled, Progressive paid it off
and she had Gap Ins. so she's in a new KIA.

The GUY?, well he's out his crap box but the Law did NOTHING to him, Yeah!  he got the ticket, texting and driving and charged with the accident and speeding. Still, he got off, not even a fine, the Judge tossed it because the COP failed to appear.

Good evening folks, worked today at the LGS, business is picking up so that is good news. Trying to decide on a layaway of a 2nd year Ruger 10/22 and a really nice Springfield Armory 1911.
Hit 103 here today with a heat index of 110. Yikes. And the next three days are predicted to be just as hot or worse.

Got halfway thru the speed show before we got rained out. Enough rain that the boys wrestled in a puddle, about 4" deep, in the grass.  ::) Then, it poured again in the afternoon.

Good evening all, great day at Church today. My Missus and two of our great-nieces sang a beautiful special in the Afternoon Service, the harmony was great. Temps are gonna continue to be brutal here the next few days [see pic below].
Anyway, after the afternoon service family came over and we played games, and Uncle Kevin got hugs!
Working tomorrow from Noon to 5:30, nice to see business picking up as we start getting closer to hunting seasons. Had some nice folks with their kids come in yesterday with two new puppies who will grow up to be squirrel dogs. The boys were really proud of those puppies.

Wait'n' on 100 foot  :o  waves according to liberal news sources.

or more, no doubt horizontally but HIGH come on  ::)

More on a real note : doing my laundry, well the machine is
and another will dry it... most I do is put it in and add soap  :-*

I did clean & vacuumed the mancave/reloading room
was a tiny bit littered.

That may be the extent of excitement around here today !

Oh ! forgot to mention, I went the TOY store Saturday, nothing struck my fancy (not that I had any wild loose CLAMs for same)
But I did score an Allen pocket holster for my EMP.
It was in the discontinued grab basket, Hmm say's I... to myself
"How much" I then followed aloud.
Ahhh- "2 bucks ?"  the reply (I did not have any $1's
so, he joking say "OK $5"  (did not have 5'er either)

"in that case then you can have it" as in freebie !

Its brand new, just no package (which I'd pitch anyway)
I had been using a DeSantis

Same Allen holster just different lighting
