90 rounds per minute? Sounds way to fast........................................ record for the "Mad Minute" was 38 hits on a 300 yard target, in one minute.
Ha Ha! Way too fast is right Sir! But I find blasting through 90 rounds per minute easier to fathom than 38 HITS at 300 yards on a 12" target in one minute!
Most people that shoot Enfields couldn't get 10 hits in a minute. Now granted, this feat was performed by an actual British rifle instructor that was probably in or near his prime. Much different than your average rifle enthusiast.
Now imagine men that were issued these weapons that lived with, slept with, ate with, drilled with for hours every day and used as if their very life depended on it.
I read of the high rates of fire performed by British Soldiers as written by an eye witness in a very well respected publication-but I do not remember where, only that it was a good enough source for me to believe it.
In my 20s, I could empty an ShtLE's 10 round magazine in under 4 seconds-and I'm not even really an "Enfield Guy"! I do still meet the USMC's height/weight and grooming standards and can still fit into my uniforms, HOWEVER-I am in my 50's now, suffering from coronary artery disease, arthritis etc. and even so, I am almost sure I could get off 50 in a minute, but I'd rather just do a 15 second blast and multiply by 4 to keep my friggen heart rate at a manageable level!
