Spencer Shooting Society / Spencer Carbone Serial Number Help
« Last post by bboy80601 on December 02, 2021, 10:15:49 PM »
Brand new member here! I bought my first Spencer carbine and I am in love! I would like some help identifying it and if where it was issued.

I believe it’s a model 1860 sent to Springfield Armory around 1867.  It has the cutoff installed and serial number is 39208 but there is no serial number matching under the barrel, only some marks.    The top of the barrel is not marked for a model 1865.

Any help would be appreciated.  I’ll try to attach a picture of the underside of the barrel.

Does GAF still offer the Postal Match?   The GAF website states you can do the Postal Match or do it individually outside of the Postal Match season.   If so, how do I get the correct size targets?

....the targets are printable from the webpage. I guess the question are these the proper size for the required distance. If nothing else could be a fun match we could do on our own?

Not Sheridan or more modern carving patterns but authentic frontier patterns. Any sources?

The Winchester Model 1876 / Re: Magazine tube issue
« Last post by greyhawk on December 02, 2021, 08:57:24 PM »
If all else fails this will work. The rifle forend nosecap, if its an original or a proper copy, will be machined to take this kind of collar (I think its how the "button" short magazine tubes were retained)
Picture is a 92 but I have done the same mod on my uberti 76 rifle - collar does not need to protrude out of the nosecap like this one - I was taking up some windage in an old nosecap I retrieved for this rebuild
so the collar once it is fitted up properly is silver soldered to the tube and engages the machined groove in the nosecap.
assembly is not as easy as before but ok so long as the tube will slide easily through the front retaining band --

OKIEPAN, I haven't heard a whisper from you, either here or by PM, so I can assume you are either dead, indisposed, or decided against it after all that. I've received payment for the other two, and if I don't hear from you real soon, I'm going to ask if the other buyer still wants the third one, as per the original offer of all three for $600, and ship them all out together tomorrow or Monday.

I usually carry one of my .22 Woodsmans if I’m in the woods on my 33 acre property. But I probably have my edc too. Already had several moccasins in my face while working out there cleaning up the previous owners trash and clearing dead trees. We’ve found 12 tires, a hot water heater, two tvs, box fan plus there are possibly the remains of two vehicles, ranges and who knows what else. I need a Kodiak 4x4.

It would be for vertical storage while in the cart at matches. I use heavy magnets to keep them in place, so the sleeves would not be thick enough to interfere famous last words].
