I first posted this if interested, to Wild Bunch or more to The Barracks.
But decided, Maybe the Leather Forum might be the huckleberry.
So here it is ....
I had never seen these or knew they existed, but found it quite interesting
1911 Navy Pistol Racks , they are two sided ( holds 6 1911's )
this particular one sold for $195 on the COLT Forum.
So I did a little search, and found 3 more listed on eBay at :o some big dollars .
-
Anyway I decided I wanted a replica for my reloading room / war room wall
Here is my replica , I still have the straps & stud keepers to add , and a bit of aging perhaps :-\
May be a bit of a stretch for the leather forum ???
-
Very cool. I saw it in the Barracks and it may be on my todo list for cap and ball pistols.
-
Oh ! I like those TOO ...in fact I like everything, all way too well
There is a little of many eras in that room CW to WW2 even an original Spetsnaz Russian Machete
Thanks for the kudo , I thought it unique & easy enough to replicate .... one is listed on eBay @ over $800 GEEEEEE's
-
That's a fine item. I like it a lot. I never knew they existed. There must have been a rack or box they slipped down into in the armory. thanks for posting this.
-
Here it is , I'd like to do the graphic , but have not figured a way to print it

Looks great! That's a fine piece. It looks good on your wall.
Years ago I had a rubber stamp kit with different sizes of upper and lower case letters and numbers. Some thing like that would do the trick well. I have no idea what one would cost but they must be available at a craft store. You may pay less to just have a stamp made, though.
-
I thought about a stamp , wonder what one would cost ?
or if anyone on the Forum makes them ?
-
Not the same, but considerably easier and less expensive maybe: Print it onto a piece of (brown?) paper and glue or découpage it onto the board?

Major 2,
Very nice project and looks great all the way around. Impressive room decor also.
So as a suggestion for the text -- look for the Avery glossy clear printable labels. Here is a link to a 2"x 4" label on Amazon:::
https://www.amazon.com/Avery-Glossy-Crystal-Address-Printers/dp/B078HHB584/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=2PZJG4I6PIUS8&dchild=1&keywords=avery+clear+labels+for+inkjet+printer&qid=1632185695&sprefix=avery+clear+labels%2Caps%2C204&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExQ0xGTjQ3Q0dKVFlHJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTM5MzY0MVNHVjFOUUUwWUlNRiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNDU4ODE1MjJLMTAwVjgxRk03RCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
Did not look for a small size because I cannot judge board space available. But you get your correct sizing. I think it will look better, if it blends into the wood grain.
-
Thanks BRS & Abilene
I think I'll check with Staples , maybe they have an option
BRS- not sure about the gloss label as it may not adhere to the wood surface to well ,and may cause air bubbles .
Abilene- the stamp is the front runner " if its not to costly. for a 1 off use " I have contacted a stamp maker.
Maybe the decoupage idea on thin onion skin paper, it may all but blend out ... :-\

Hi Major,
You could have a stensil made, spray paint it and then complete with a sharpy. My dad would do that back in the day (although it was an ElMarko rather than a Sharpy)
-
Another thought, but caveat is that I have not tried it. There are ways to transfer inkjet and laser printed materials to wood and leather. I think you just need to print it as a mirror image and then use a solvent to transfer it to wood. There are some tutorials on youtube. If it works let me know, as I have some other items I have thought about doing it with.
-
Very nice. Great workmanship. Many thanks for sharing this with us
-
Here you go. Upload your own graphics. Looks like $15-22 depending on the size. No fiddling around with something that's not authentic looking. All you need is an ink pad or you could probably just wipe some ink on it and get the impression right.

That' the huckleberry , I just ordered one for $12 , got an ink pad too...
I had contacted another on-line maker but they have not responded ...your suggested place was dead nuts east !
Thank You
-
I'm glad that helped. Now I'm looking forward to seeing the finished result.

Pretty neat. I have never seen those but you did a good job replicating it. Pretty cool room overall also.
-
Major 2, do you actually own that many identical 1911's ? :)
-
Yes Sir , they are mine :) ................. should I tell you they are Airsoft ?
here are the real deal , Cimarron , Springfield Armory Milspec & my Ithaca ( I inherited from William "Bill" Roberts , he used in 1945 )
-
Those are nice 1911's. What a cool photo of Bill Roberts, too. Are those pockets on his trousers below the knee?
-
Yeah, I think they are called Type A-10 Cargo pants ?
Here is William's Obit.... very fascinating gentleman
ROBERTS,
WILLIAM FRANKLIN
William Franklin Roberts, 97, died on August 11, 2019 in Gainesville, Georgia.
Born February 16, 1922 in Jacksonville Florida, William served as a B-26 Marauder pilot with the 386th Bomb Group, 555th Bomb Squadron during World War II. He flew 50 combat missions and was in Paris on VE-Day.
Mr. Roberts was a graduate of both the University of Florida and UCLA as well as a Charter Life Member of the University of Florida's National Alumni Association and Grand Guard. William worked at Northrop Corp and the Aerospace Corporation in Southern California as well as GE in Philadelphia. He provided technical assistance for the first communications satellite and for developmental stages of the space shuttle. Earth Day in 1970 inspired William to found Sigma Treatment Systems. He patented pollution control systems for ships at sea and traveled the world, giving lectures and promoting his company.
William's active retirement included a purposeful emphasis on creative ventures to balance his largely technical career. He often said, 'I feel like I have lived several lives, and they were all good.'
William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Constance Charron Roberts, in May, 2014.
He is survived by four sons; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many special nieces and second cousins, plus numerous other relatives and friends of all ages in many locations.
On August 29th at 2:00PM a Memorial Service will be held for William at Lanier Village Estates, a retirement community in Gainesville, GA.
A later interment, with full military rites will be at the
Florida National Cemetery in Jacksonville. This will be a joint interment for William and Constance.

Thanks. What a fascinating time that would have been.
I guess those pockets would be so one could get into them while strapped into a flight seat. I could see charts and whatnot carried in them.
I like that holster, too. It's a good design for one strapped in, as well.
-
That was Bill's holster it a US issue ENGER-KRESS
-
You need to open your place up as a museum. Cool stuff.

Thank you
