1/2 a year nearly gone , Schools out, Summer starts ( that was while back for us in the Tropics ) Hurricane Season starts today (Oh Joy ! ) Love Bugs ( another joy to behold )  ::)
HOT  Humid ,  Afternoon thunder storms , still hotter,  still more humid , Mosquitos....

what was it I liked about Florida again ?

Course we have no State income tax (yet) no State mandated vehicle inspections (used to, did away with those 35 years ago ),  we have AC .... mild Winters,  and CCW.

but I digress .... ;)  Happy June ,

I take it, you mean rain has returned to the enchanted land of canadians and assorted blue haired ladies?   With the hurricanes and humidity t guess the tax thing is the draw there.  Ithe climate is not appealing to me, it hasn't got me interested.  Even as a young man spring breaky thing wasn't a must do. Note i tried living in Pennscola area for a short time. ...... I am thinking Indiana .

Happy June y'all- stay hydrated

Speaking as a former Flordidian, I can honestly say there are some things I miss... all the pretty gals on the beach in skimpy bikinis, and Cuban food and espresso.

I don't klnow Junebugs, but Ladybugs are a nuisance here. They swarm and get everywhere, including coffee. And they bite! Since when do Ladybugs BITE???

Probably not Ladybugs, but the imports that look like ladybugs, the Asian beetle. Body can range from orange yellow to a cream color, and they're very aggressive.

AHHH .maybe a wash for some.... personally, no income tax is big PLUS.... we can & do dodge the Big blows ... sometimes ..

Blue hairs are everywhere ...we have no monopoly there  ::)
Retired Yankees yes .... Ca-nooks yes ... humidity,  hell yes...

Lightning central you bet....  but we also have one or two 38- 40 degree cold snaps a year for a day or two....

Yes Sir,  Rain is back...but way short of what's needed.... I expect at lease one if not 2 major named storms this season
I predict Miami Ft. Laud. & the Keys will get one ....

Morning all.

Here in California, we've got almost all of the bad things you've mentioned, Major.  Income tax, liberal gun grabbers, hippies, humidity, no rain.  Instead of tropical storms and hurricanes, we get forest fires.  Last year we got off easy with only 1000 acres burned,  This year, they're expecting a bad year.  At least all the lookouts will get overtime, though. ::)

I made a city trip yesterday.  It turned out to be semi-useless, though.  The one thing I mainly went for I couldn't do.  But, I did get that rifle on order.  There were only two left at the main depot after I placed my order.  But $1000 later and I have a new deer rifle and scope bases on the way

Off to church in a few- dedication to our New Worship Center, followed by a meal under the big tent.
Been lots of rain the past couple if weeks, so a tent was brought in and set up.  I think it will be a full house again today.

A year ago we were headed into a 6 month drought.  It is greener than Ireland at the time around here. The new mower got a work out this week.  Used 6 gals of non ethanol (real gas) to mow the yard.
My little flock (30) free ranging hens like fresh mowed yard lots of goodies get turned over.

 :-\Congrats Grampa  :)

What malady waylaid the Commodore ?
Those Fords are probably last of the duck tape & bailing wire technology.  Which was a very good thing  , their passing is Bane to our
shade tree mechanical skills  :(

I found myself scratching my head, when my computer controlled everything vehicle , sputtered & shut off at a traffic light  ???
as if out of gas. The tank was 3/4 full , so an attempt to restart worked but with little or throttle control.
The name for this condition, is actually in the owners manual  " LIMP HOME MODE " !
Here is were it gets all " Big Brother " Twilight zone ish...
On board computer , tells the OEM the GPS location of my vehicle, a tow is dispatched , and its taken to the nearest Dealer for
repair....

Drive by wire Throttle body ( as in sensor only, no cable or mechanical linkage ) is the culprit .... a couple of hours later
a new Throttle body is installed (at no charge) and I'm on my way....
Great outcome  :D ..... but somehow  I'm left feeling a bit no Bueno.

Gone are the days , of Carburetors ,  distributers,  points, plugs & condensers ....
imagine that   :-\  missing greasy hands & scraped knuckles , go figure  ::)
Hell , I even have my oil changed.

Afternoon all.

One heck of a night here.  We had a bunch of helicopter-worthy medical calls overnight, and since I live less than a quarter mile from the helipad, sleep was not an easy task.  In between helicopter landings, there were neighbors who think riding a Harley through our little street at 3am is a good idea, a raccoon that tried to eat our bunny food (accompanied by frenzied barking from the dog) and so on.   In all, it equates to a day fueled by caffeine.

My new rifle should be in today or tomorrow now.  So then I'll be able to do the paperwork and wait my ten days.  :-\

That's quite a yard, and mower to match. I only mowing about 1 to 1 1/2 acres, but with the estimated 25+ year old JD 38" rider, and the Lowe's push mower, it's still a chore to keep it done. about half of it is "new" yard, IE former pasture, keep having to weld the deck back together because of hitting rocks and stumps.

6 plus here as well...and when it rains it grows FAST..... needs cutting again 5 days later.

3 acres are yard....and the other 3 is was pasture ( last horse is on other grazing )
It is gone to seed, so it will be hay mowed in July
I have an Ariens mower.

The decks on the box store John Deers are all a nightmare. The one sitting here was ruined second use. The throttle cable broke furst use. The stactic drive transmission is shot now. Less than a100 hours. Three summers ago it was new. The prior got about five seasons. Deck was trashed body falling off. I replaced yhe steering linkage before it decided to never start again. No more JD's . I was wanting a Kabota 4x but they are twice what this cost. This cost more than my first new truck- JD cost more than my first cars.  As a group.
Thinking about running a electric wire and bringing a couple Burros home.

3" of rain since yesterday

Weather is hot and sunny, per usual California summer.

We have a Craftsman pushmower for our yard that is in its 14th season.  It gets used every three weeks in the summer, and that's it.  It also only has to mow 1/4 acre.  ::)

Good luck with the eyewear, Cap.

Yup, that little hole might cause a problem.

Been fighting cooling problems on my latest Blazer for a couple of weeks. First leaking heater core. Stop leak fixed that real good, no water even gets THROUGH it now. Then it's overheating, but no leaks. Cap holds no pressure, replace that. Good for a day, then radiator springs a pretty good size leak(but smaller than the FieldMarshall's leak) Replace that. Drive around 40-50 miles, seems fine. Next day, 20 minutes into the route, water pump is dribbling. Fixed that. Hardly any cooling system left to replace now. Actually went all day today without problems!

Del my old Ford truck.. radiator went then everything else followed like PE. They are all the same age and like you, worn out. Then finally after those items were fixed the tensioner idler pully went shredding the serpentine belt. I am telling you this to prepare you. Then the alternar went. Then i sold it.

That's quite the hole there, Del.  What year is the truck?

PE, my dad and I have had to fix literally everything you just mentioned in our Blazer...Some twice.  Or thrice.   For some reason, we still have that car, despite the fact that we spent more fixing it than we did on buying it.  And we bought it close to new. :-\

Looking at rain today.  We'll see how that goes.

Kid, the last Blazer I owned was a 98 TrailBlazer I think. I went to put the bearings in the front, and snapped off a wheel lug or two. Get the wheel off, and find that my 2WD had 4WD hubs, doubling the price. Then I found out, there were 2 years that used special hubs made in Canada, special order from the dealer only, double the doubled price. Won't ever own a Chevy again.

The Wife's car is a 2005 Trailblazer, and so far it's the best car I ever bought. Had about 100,000 when we got it, 185,000 now, total maintenance besides oil changes and tires: 1 coil pack, couple of years ago. It's getting pretty high miles now, sure hope we can get as good when it needs replacing. Oops, forgot: the heater speed resistor continually goes out, but I blame that on the aftermarket replacement parts. currently has 1-3 out of 5 speeds working.

PE, we had an '03 Trailblazer for about 5 years.  The worst problem we had is that there was an electrical drain on it somewhere so that it sometimes didn't start in the mornings.  Besides that, we never had a problem with it.  Ours we bought at 120,000 miles, and we traded it in at 185k.  We have a 2010 Ford Explorer now, and so far it's been pretty good.  We had to replace the coil pack, but that's it.
And then there's my truck.   '95 F150 with the 351.  All I've done is replace a couple belt pulleys and the oil.  187k miles and still gets 17mpg on the highway. ::)

I finally got the paperwork done on my new rifle.  I drove all the way to the city for it, with the dog.   I did learn that my dog does not like taxidermy.  She barked at the mounted bears and caribou off and on for 45 minutes. :P

Not this week. But must be common way of doing it, was asked here several times. Not sure but i picked up and moved a window A/C i think it may have been cause.
I have been battling enphzyma for several years now. I think this may be the end of the life i once enjoyed outdoors. I keep praying that it is not.

Guess I'm going to have to start buying lead alloy, went to cast with my new mold last night, no ingots to be found. Started smelting some of the last batch of Wheel weights I got, and probably half are something other than lead. There's zink ones, iron, and some appear to be some kind of polymer/plastic. Still have a partial 5 gallon bucket stashed away in an old car "on the back 40" that should be all usable.

Hot and humid here in Texas.  Typical June weather.
I'll be heading to the range, again, to put the Spencer on paper, again.  It has been performing very poorly...group sizes are terrible (read this as 7" and up at 50 yards).  Hopefully, I've found and solved the problem.  If not, I'll be shooting another rifle in the GAF Muster.  No matter, I will have fun whatever I end up shooting!

Evening y'all.

We lost power at verk at 14:38. Trees fell on power lines near verk. Storm rolled thru with 55-75 mph winds. Tornadoes were sighted. Drove thru a small community on the way home that have a bunch of trees over the road and on houses.
Lost the top of a Balsam in the front yard. Besides that just some small branches down.

Evening all.  I'll toss some wood on and reheat the beans for the evening crew.

I've been doing some traveling the past couple days.  Monday I went 100 miles to help my dad build an internet thing on top of a mountain.  I was mostly just a delivery driver for some stuff that wouldn't fit in his jeep.  But, 6 hours overtime.

Then Tuesday, a friend and I went up to a mountain lake with our dogs.  It's a 9 mile drive from the end of the pavement, and then another 2+ miles of high elevation steepness.  We took the long way in and out, so we ended up climbing a 2000 foot "hill"  (it peaks at 7400ft) to get from the lake to the ridgetop, then we followed the ridge to the truck.  There was 12 feet of snow in some places, too.

Then today, I took my dog out along a creek and we had lunch up in a canyon.  And I just got back from my run for today, too.  ::)

Winds of 87 mph last night at the airport, think they were maybe 75 mph at work.   Window was sure bowing in the gusts, I was on the inside register, just kept it going, Jake was on the outside one, but was stocking groceries, the truck came in just before the storm.  I would have asked him to step away from the window if he was on the register.

Business slowed down some, but never stopped, some waited the worst out inside, gave out some plastic bags to put cell phones in.

About a 1 1/2 miles from work and 1/2 mile from Mom's house.  Ironic, well inside the city limits and it touches down in one of UNL's cornfields.   ;D

Yes it was very bad. There's no memory of a wildfire with such a high number of  casualties in this Country. It was some 130 miles to the Northeast. This a small Country, if you drive 250 miles from where I live in any direction except West you'll  be out of the Country. If you drive to the West you'll be in the Atlantic Ocean in less than 5 miles. ::)

Morning all.

Quite the past few days.  I was talking to a friend on Sunday, and he said he was going to a fellow's house to clean out a garden.  He said it was probably 20 hours worth of work, mostly pulling weeds and tilling and that he was getting $500 for the job.  I told him it was going to be over 100 degrees, and he offered me $200 to help for two days.  I was thinking, how bad could it be?

We pull in at 6AM on Monday and find that it is a half acre garden, most of it head high with grassweeds.  So the first three hours were spent using  a lawnmower and a broken weedeater to clear the walkways to dirt.  Then we laid 200 feet of weedcloth, and just as the thermometer broke 100, we were given shovels, a wheelbarrow and 6 tons of gravel.  We shoveled and scooped almost 4.5 tons of the stuff.  The way it worked was, he took an ATV with a 1000lb trailer, loaded it up at the gravel pile and drove it the 100 yards to where I was and dumped it.  I then loaded it into a wheelbarrow and dumped it in the garden.

We called it quits at 1:30 because it was almost 110 and we were both starting to show signs of heat exhaustion.  Yesterday, we finished the gravel by 8, then pulled weeds with a rototiller and a rake for the rest of the morning, until 1.  We barely got a quarter of the way through the garden. :-\  $500 may not have been enough...  Any other time of the year, it would be.  But June, not so much.

On the bright side, I brought home my new Winchester on Sunday.  ::)

Well, the weather has been cool... ish. Of course, it has been raining pretty non stop the past couple days. Had to drive upstate to Newnan for my 90 day tests, and was fortunate to just beat the heavy rain. On the way, we were passing by Senoia, where they film the Walking Dead series, and finally decided to stop and look around. Cool little town, but don't expect things to be cheap! It is loaded with tourists, and the town is making the most of it.

Morning all.  I've got an assortment of beverages and foods ready.

Weather here has been pretty constantly 105 with little to no breeze.  Fire dept and the ambulance are running on a lot of heat stroke calls.  It's predicted to drop back to the 90s by next Wednesday.  Yay...

In other news, I'm in the process of going through a job change.  I got a full time job over the summer working for the Forest Service as a fire lookout.  It's Wednesday-Saturday, and pays almost $13 an hour, so I'll have enough money to play with when I'm done to pack away in the bank earn interest on.  ::)

Cap, I know the tourist thing pretty well.  I don't know if you've ever been to California, but where I live in Trinity County (hence the name) our main source of money is tourism.  I live in the county seat of Weaverville, so milk is less than $5/gallon, but you go most anywhere else in the county and everything immediately goes through the roof.  :-\

I can understand tourism, I grew up in Florida. Had the Space Center just north of me, and Disney and Orlando just west of me. But Senoia is really getting what they can. Norman Reedus (Daryl from the Walking Dead), and the producer Greg Nicotaro, own a restaurant there. We stopped in, hoping to get a bite. A steak was $25, and a burger was like $15. We passed. There were a few other places there, and the prices were not far off. That includes the Irish Pub that was there.

And then there is the price of homes! 3BR/3Bth will run you about $350K. For that kind of money, I want that pretty girl from Walking Dead as my neighbor :)

Howdy guys. This is certainly an odd thread imo. Are we snap chatting? If it's about coffee I use folgers with half and half and french vanilla. The only bugs around here lately have been biting flies but the skeeters will hatch out before long. Personally I need to get off my lazy butt and finish my bathroom repaint job so that I can get out to my shop and have some real fun. I shot my New Services at last weeks very hot match, I'm not sure what I'll use for Julys match. But to celebrate the 4th I'll probably do my 1912 summer uniform and shoot my 1911 and a DA. It's been very nice the last 2 days, after dinner I've been sitting in my gazebo watching the rabbits eat my grass.

You think the thread is odd? Why is that?

I'm afraid that the thread doesn't have a thread. Seems to wander around abit. Part weather report, part situation report. Remember I'm an old fart and confuse easily. Sometimes it's all I can do to get through a 20 rd pistol, 10 rifle and 8 sg WB stage without a couple of p's.

The coughing part will be easy.  One of our local species of willow has decided to toss a bunch of cotton.  So I have a bunch of fluff on my windshield now.  ::)

Why shouldn't the tread wonder, it's a bunch of guys having cyber coffee with friends.

Oh and Folgers is a last resort.   Life is too short to drink lousy coffee and eat fast food.   ::)

That is exactly how I feel about Starbucks! Overpriced burnt coffee, profiting a company that won't support our soldiers in the field. But, I grew up on Folgers, and it is a taste of home to me. These days, I have even stooped to drinking store brand, when I used to drink hand roasted Kenyan AAA and Kona. Either way, at the end of the day, I love to have a hot espresso, watch the sun go down, and the bats come out :)

Starbucks taste like mulch from the flowerbeds.  That is why they add all the garbage to it.  Recent years i have a KCup. I like community coffee- folgers black silk. And any of the wal- mart brands. They are as good as anything on market for half the price.  Orange and blue box the milder- red and brown the stronger. I buy one small box of each and pick for the mood.

Um... exsqueeze me? That is similar to the Spanish or Hungarian way to fix coffee. Used by Nomads over coals. You dump the coffee grounds in, add water, let it simmer. Just be careful not to slosh it too much when pouring. Dang old farts think they know it all  ::)

Afternoon all.

Sunny and hot in California, per usual summer weather.  More of the same in the forecast.

There are so many opinions about coffee at the office that we have three coffee machines.  ::)I bring my own, since the coffee hasn't even been started when I leave.

Don't worry, Ed.  This thread is confusing at times.  It's all the old farts.  ;)

Cap'n Quirk and Baltimore Ed, we're just a bunch of long timers sitting around the virtual pot belly stove drinkin' virtual coffee and tea.  This thread has always put me in mind of that old country general mercantile place , one I knew in Oregon, another in Tennessee, and one was a gun store in Anaheim California - familiar faces, like mind, for the most part, and common interests.  Drag up a seat and have a cuppa, don't talk politics or religion, just kick back and enjoy the companionship.

Well, why didn't you say that before El Peludo. Now I see the thread in the thread. Is this seat taken? Just would like to say that since ive retired I've really enjoyed hanging out with you guys at Cas City. If you've got a question or problem you'll get 25 answers. Most are dead on and some are for fun. I hope that my contributions to the forum are a little help or at least get a laugh. I'll take another cup. Thanks.

Hey, I'm right in step with y'all, but don't expect me to spout the weather. I usually don't have a clue what the temperature is (Unless it is either dang hot or freaking cold), or how hard the wind is blowing... unless the pines surrounding the cabin are bent. But, I do know my coffee pretty well. I have a small collection of close to 40 coffee and espresso pots, and likely close to 200 mugs. I can also spin a yarn with the best.

And, by the way, the espresso es caliente y con leche :)

Because I'm old, and have overly abused my belly over the years. Not often, but once in a while, a little milk don't hurt.

Field trip was a successful scout.
I drove over to Auburndale, Fl. to Precision Machine Inc. to view the operation of a CNC router.
Toured their showroom with attention to this unit. Dealer took us to a local BBQ ....wondrous Brisket

I have another Manufacturer's make to evaluate , in Orange Co. Calif.  I'll be checking that one out in Aug.
These are serious money and major production up grade so I'm taking a well informed customer approach.
However, I was truly impressed by this Anderson machine.

Coffee and iced tea are ready.

Heavy dew. Fog in the creek bottom.
'Tis 63 and mostly sunny. "Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog in the morning. Highs in the upper 70s. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 40 percent."

Afternoon all.

Payday has arrived!  I had a lot of overtime this month, so I'm pretty happy with this particular go-around.  I went to the city for the bank, then went and grabbed some shooting stuff.   I finally tracked down a box of Remington 7.5 primers and some Sierra 68gr HPBT in .224, so now I can start loading for my 223.  I'm going to stretch that son-of-a-gun out to 700 yards this month.  ::)

But, not before I get over whatever it is I seem to have gotten in the past 24 hours.  Mainly headache and sour stomach, but it seems to be getting worse.  :-\  Hopefully it clears up before the 4th.
