USFA CSS / Rodeo II deal?
« Last post by Abilene on Yesterday at 10:12:29 PM »
I have a line on a pair of .38 Rodeo II's with Longhunter actions and some sort of stag grips (not Sambar, I forget what but maybe Elk), like new for $2K.  The only reason I haven't bought them is they are 5 1/2" barrels and I would prefer 4 3/4" as these would be shooters, not collectors and I just like the shorter barrels better.  But I'm still thinking about it, and I think that is a pretty good price, yes?  Meaning, if I ended up not shooting them much, I could get my money back?

edit to add: I think the boxes, etc are included.

King,
The photos you provided are not sufficient to make a positive determination based on them alone. It does have the cone shaped firing pin as do all USA parts guns, but need the photos I suggested in my previous post.

I agree with Coffinmaker about not letting a parts gun turn you away, but on the other hand I personally would not pay the price most USFA USA parts guns sell for these days for one built from Italian parts, but that is just me.

I did notice in the photo the cylinder has a turn line or at least a partial turn line. Personally, for me that would hurt its value some.

My understanding is that all USPFA guns were made of Italian parts and were the first guns USFA issued. From what I have observed on the auction sights is some USPFA guns sell for almost as much as the USA parts guns. I think it depends on condition and how desirable it might be.

Wow........$54.00 for a 25lb. bag of shot now!!! Glad I have at least a couple hundred lbs. stored away from $17.00 a bag. My buddy had 3,000 lbs stored away. Things have just gone sky high  any more. :(

USFA CSS / Info on this US"P"FA SAA
« Last post by alouisf02 on Yesterday at 02:49:37 PM »
I have this USFA SAA I purchased about 12 years ago and I'm trying to find value information on it. Prices on GB seems to vary a lot. I was chatting with another collector friend of mine and he stated it looks like an earlier one that was made with some Uberti parts maybe? So that makes it a parts gun?  I only really know the information about them that I read in an article close to 20 years ago that spoke about their acquisition and what they were doing. I thought their history and what they offered were really cool, so when I found one, I had to have it.

That being said, here we are many years later and this has always been tucked at the back of my safe, so figured I'd look into moving it... but I need to know more about it.

From what info I do have... is it's serial # starts with a DFC prefix, so sold through Davidsons. I called Turnbull Restoration a few years ago when I was trying to research it and they verified it had "been through their shop" around May 0f 97' if I remember correctly. Not that they built it, but just what they said. I'm assuming they did the color case hardening? It's marked USPFA on top, is in 45LC, and has a second cylinder in 45ACP. I've put maybe 20 rounds though it in it's lifetime.

Any information or direction is much appreciated. I was referred here and been searching in this subforum, but maybe someone more versed in these can chime in. Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards - A

 :) Hey King  ;)

I'm the wrong guy to comment about USFA value as I don't "collect" anything and feel the "Collectors" have price USFA well beyond actual "value."

However, do not allow a USFA "parts" gun to turn you away.  USPFA/USFA turn'd Uberti sourced parts into really really FINE revolvers and you can't go wrong with Turnbull.  Some speak of "Parts" guns with distain.  Horsepucky.

BLACK RIVER:  Just for funnies, it's "USFA" really not "USAF."  USAF is well know for their AIRPLANES.  USFA, on the other hand, are known for SINGLE ACTION guns.(Chortle chortle snicker snicker  ::) )

Judging by what I've read so far, it's a parts gun.

The Winchester Model 1873 / Re: Recreating the original .32WCF loading

Rather than worrying about bullets and dies, look for brass. It’s hard to come by. I just got some from Mid South Saturday and was darn glad to get it.  If you see some from a legitimate seller snap it up.

The above comment is correct.

Because of this I started working on a reforming experiment using a 357 Mag casing to 32-20.  I got a good looking final product but still need -- final neck measurements for Outer Neck after expansion to 0.306" for a 0.308 bullet and then also Outer Neck after expansion to 0.311 for the 0.313 bullet.  What is the outer diameter of anyone's finished 32-20 casing?  What is the bullet diameter most people are using in their firearms?  What is the Neck Inner Diameter of anyone's pistol chamber?  SAAMI rifle chamber is listed as 0.3271.  I cannot find SAAMI for a revolver chamber.

One thing to understand here is that --- I do not own a 32-20 firearm at all.  Three years ago after reading all the posting about the 32-20, I luckily got a mis-identified RCBS set for cheap.  Then bought my Winchester molds from eBay, for cheap.  Then got a Winchester reloading tool, for even cheaper.  Then got a C/H die set that was for loading the modern 30-20 barrels (0.308 bullets).

All by sheer luck, I will admit.

With no easily available brass to practice reloading, I embarked on this reforming project.  It is not for the 'faint of heart' reloader.  Several dies, base and rim diameter thinning.  I don't completely know if I still need to thin down the inner necks of these .357 conversions.  Sometimes I feel like our own, 'ndnchf' member, with all his brass converting projects.

Still, Little Dalton all the luck in putting everything together and then shooting this little brother to our beloved 44/40 and 38/40.
