Third Time's a Charm ....

My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

New to this town but brought two of the herd.

I love the Ruger Old Armys, but am not that fond (yet?) of Black Powder ... there might be a set of cartridge conversions for them when IF tax season is kind to me ...

But nice weapons ... do you shoot SASS or NCOWS?

Sir,

My current vocation doesn't allow me time to shoot with any regularity.  I use either of these for hunting hogs when time permits and punching paper when the freezers full.

Dog River Dan,

Why thank you!

All the guns were bought from online classified here on cascity.com or from other local SASS members.

The big Bowie is a Chuck Burrows product where he customized a standard Indian Damascus/Wootz Bowie. The smaller knife is a standard Belduque from Crazy Crowe.

All the black powder accessories came in a great deal for the Ruger Old Armys ...

So I have been very blessed .... *S*

Let see if'n I am smart enough to figure this out...

Hey, whatta ya know! These are my match guns, Old Model 5 1/2 inchers in .45 Colt. They look far better than my poor camera skills can capture. Found the safe key! Second picture is an Old Model 7 1/2 incher in .44 magnum.

Good job on the antiquing, but it looks like the back strap and trigger guard are brass , and there looks to be some corrosion on the trigger guard, is that what I'm seeing in this picture or is it just the lighting? other than that it looks great, I like the look of a antiqued gun, it looks the part.

Sure looks like verdigre (spelling?) to me. The antiqued guns are sure popular, but unfortunately, lost on me. Back in the days of the old west, the guns would have invariably been in good condition as they had only been on the market for twenty years or so.

The spelling of Verdigris is always a miss for most, but that's just what it looks like, I didn't know Ruger made new model Vaqueros with brass back straps and trigger guard, but that's what it looks like, talking about bluing, it seems back in that time period, the formula for bluing wasn't as good/strong as it is today in most cases, and would come off much easier then than now, and some guns were just finished in the white, where rust and coloration would take over a guns finish very fast, and even when kept oiled the stains were permanent. My Granddads Colt 45 artillery model 5 1/2" barrel, looked like one of the antiqued guns, but I think it really looked nice, there is something about the natural patina the metal takes on with age that looks good, at least to me.

You are correct Ten Wolves, it is a brass grip frame. The NVs don't come with them, it was a custom job. Lots of hand fitting. After "antiquing" the frame and everything, it looked very odd with a bright, shiny brass grip frame. I "antiqued" that as well. And to Four Fingers, a revolver worn on the hip of a rancher for 20 years in all weather would look similar to this.
