I just received my 7-1/2" Pietta SAA in 44-40. It is without doubt the best looking, best timed CAS gun I've ever owned!
I chose the case coloured frame with dark blued barrel and cylinder. It has poylmer ivory one piece grips that FIT like they were melted in place. The timing is perfect, the locking bolt popping up just before the locking notch. The trigger is more than acceptable out of the box.
My wife has a brace of blued 44-40 7-1/2" Pietta SAAs with case coloured frame and walnut grips, which are every bit as nice. Also a blued 7-1/2" Uberti 44-40 with laser engraving marked - "CUSTOM by ALDO UBERTI - ITALY". The engraving on the barrel/frame/cylinder is gold filled and the ejector rod housing is gold plated as well. The grip frame is brass. The front edge of the cylinder is not bevelled as are the Piettas. The timing is alright, but not as good as my new Pietta. It also prefers Winchester brass due to it's tight chambers. It has that ridiculous little screw in the hammer for the safety.
In any case, I've adopted it to shoot along with my new Pietta. Can't wait to shoot, hopefully tomorrow.
Now I'm loading 44-40s for our pistols and my rifles. Life is good, damn good!
