ASM 1860 Conversions
« on: January 31, 2020, 12:41:35 PM »
I just bought another 1860 ASM Conversion. It seems in excellent condition but it was really dirty, and tried to strip it down to clean it but could not get the two back strap screws and the front trigger guard screw out. Tried everything, used right screw drivers,  drill press, impack wrench, soaked with penetrating oil three days, they will not come loose. Did not want to use heat as it has a very good finish. Took it to a gunsmith I used to have and he was afraid he would bust the screw heads off. Is there anyone out there can help me, I have an FFL. can ship the gun and pay what ever someone might want. Just like to get the screws loose in case a main spring or something else might brake. I have had trouble with uberti screws but was able to get them out okay.
Thanks for any help,
Reno

Tried putting in the freezer overnight?  Then a heat gun if that doesn’t work.

Greetings My Dear Reno

that's a tough one

Tried putting in the freezer overnight?  Then a heat gun if that doesn’t work.

If Oldgold's idea doesn;t work the only things left I can think of are

- heat up a 10 penny nail and apply it to the screw, but not the frame
- could an ultrasonic cleaner "shake it loose?"

good luck
