Hi HPD , Great to hear from Ya. Sorry for the delay, have gotten side tracked by a Hawken .54 cal. project , just about done with that Beauty of a Beast!  I did get the 50/95 wcf barrel in from Bob. and its as slick as a whistle. The bore is hand cut , and smooth . No tool marks , should be a shooter. The roll markings are excellent , and the outer polish is ready for blueing. I had mine shiped in the white . I want to do the finish work myself and try to match the look of the old rifle. One other thing is I had Bob make this barrel up as a short rifle / and changed from my original order of 26" to 24" also. With the shorter forearm and 24" barrel , it should be a Dandy to point and swing. Looking at the work done by Winchesterbarrels , I have no doubt that this one will be a shooter. I will get started on the barrel and forearm installation in a few wks. As soon as I can get over this Hawken infection. Looks like its going to be a summer project. I will post a pic. or two of the barrel if you would like.  PS the wait was a bit long but aint all good craftsmam worth waiting for. Hope your project is comming along well. Thanks for your interest.,,,,,DT Ron Wehmeyer

Back to the re-barrel 50/95. Did get the barrel mounted and all looks good , head space perfect , feeds and ejects great. Putting the finish coats on the stocks, had to cut-down the new forearm wood cause of the short rifle 's shorter lenth. Look kinda nice. Going to try different barrel sights until I like them . For now a M21 and a Semi Buckhorn is what the little 76 -50/95 short rifle is sporting.  Looking to get the dust cover and brass lifter engraved with the proper markings. If anyone can recommend someone that can do the job, I sure would appreciate it . Will post a pic upon finishing if I can remember how.,,,,DT

dusty
i had my Uberti 50-95 dust cover engraved with the express, powder, and cal. designation. a friend did it on his cnc milling machine. i provided the text size and font . he had a spring loaded cutting tool needed to follow the curve of the cover. it came put quite nice. i still need to get the elevator cut with the proper script. the covers are so thin i am not sure you could stamp them without a precise steel backer die. another friend was working on a acid etch font template for me, it was close but did not cut very deep.

Thanks for the info Kwilliams1876 , a spring loaded cutting tool wow . I have seen a few different type of way's the dust covers are marked. I like the one with the 50 cal. 95 grs. Express in the old font.    It adds to the look of an express rifle .

Absolutely beautiful work there, Dusty. Also, this posting shows that you are a man of patience, a year and 4 month project.  WOW Now, from what I can tell, you possess all the 1876 calibers in some form of configuration on an original Winchester.  Is that correct?

Now for a half hearted joking question but I am interested in a serious manner, just because I do not have any related experience.  Why do you need a 'buffalo cartridge' (between a 50/70 and a 50/110) :o in order to shoot wild hogs?  I do know they tend to charge and that cartridge will give better 'distance reach' but.....?

The only 50 cal, I have experience with is the 56/50 Spencer (350 gr bullet with only ~30 to35gr of 2f).

Also, how many cartridges does the half or button magazine hold?  If wanting or having to use that big a cartridge for wild hogs then 'I' would want as many as possible.!!!!
