 :) Aw Heck TL ;)

I don't think I like you any more  ::)   Here in my end of the Swamp, the ranges are under a real nasty, crusty, covering of SNOW and it hasn't warmed all the way up to freezing in well over a week.  We won't be able to get out to play 'till SPRING (at least I won't).  Have fun with that Knew-Two-Ewe '66 you betcha!!

I have had two 1866s before this.  Both were just author samples I did not get to keep.  One was an EMF Short Rifle in .38-40.  The second was about 20 years later, and was a Cimarron 1866 carbine in .44-40.  I really liked the last one, but it was an article "loaner gun," and at the time I was not in a position financially to buy it.  It was light, handy, and pointed exceptionally well.

Wow, shot another clean six stage match, using the 1866 .44-40, the .45 No. 3 Schofield, and the 8" Richards Type II in .44 Colt.  Besides clean, I got both bonus clay pigeons, and hit a 8" bell at about 30 yards with the 1866 and with the Richards .44 Colt!

The only glitch was the Magtech .44-40 factory ammo.  They don't do a tight factory crimp like a LEE factory crimp die does) on their .44-40.  It tending to catch and bobble the case mouth on the sharp edge of the chamber.  My reloads and some WW 200 JSP factory fed slick as snot. After the match, I beveled the bottom of the chamber ever so slightly (less than the thickness of the channel in front of the rim), and it feeds great now.  That will also help preven the reloads from "Turtling" into the case mouth if the bullet hits the back edge of the chamber.

I have to say, while I love my Henry, the little 1866 carbine was way lighter, handier, and faster pointing.  Already planning on going to another local match next month, and I'll see how my "Yellow Boy" does since I fixed it.

I had to do the chamber mouth bevel on a .45 Colt rifle once.  Some .45 Colt ammo is not crimped tight, and it was doing the same thing. There is no danger of case blow out, as the bevel is right againts the rim, where the case is solid.  It was either that or run the remaining 350 rounds of Magtech, that I got for articles, through my LEE factory crimp die. ,
