Title: USFA Serial Number Questioning
Post by: Gun K1n6 on August 01, 2022, 11:33:36 AM
Can anyone help with an unusual USFA serial number?
200012.
Could this be a custom SN?
Is there any way to date this or determine if it’s 100% USA?
Thank you.

Thanks for the reply Buckaroo Lou…
This is a general question about a six digit serial number (200012)and weather or not they existed or were solely custom. This is a premium USFA. CC/DB.

I'm no expert on USFA guns but I own a few and follow most everything I find to read or see discussed about them. I've never heard of a six digit serial number. Doesn't mean there never was one, just that I've never heard any mention of there ever being one.

YMMV,
Dave

I have a real nice high 5 digit numbered gun that is a Sheriffs model, BP frame with old Armory blue and factory stag grips. It is the highest serial numbered gun I have seen. I bought it at our local gun show back right about the time USFA shut down. All USA parts. The only safe queen I own.

Lou, go shoot it! (smiley face goes here)

I have three Gunfighter variants (I hate that name) and all three of them have serial numbers in the 58,000 range. Those are the highest numbers I've seen and that's a long, long way from the 200,000 range mentioned in the OP.

Dave, I would except I have three other 3 1/2" barrel revolvers to shoot. One USFA Storekeeper in a Rodeo II and two Uberti Sheriff models with the ejector shroud.

My apologizes to the OP. I didn't mean to hijack your original post.

So not that it matters any longer the USFA I was referencing with the six digit serial number is up on GI. I took too long and lost it to someone else.
For discussion I’ve attached an image to help answer the SN question.

Ah, you didn't mention Bisley.  I'm wondering if those who said they haven't seen a 6-digit s/n are including Bisleys?  How much did it go for?

The reason I wanted photos is because by the photos the ejector shroud and cylinder flutes indicate a Uberti parts gun, possibly a USPFA if they had a Bisley back then, and that would explain the six digit serial number. Any photos of the barrel roll markings?

I once had a USPFA premium single action with a 7 1/2" barrel and I believe it had a six digit serial number. Not certain but I think it did.

For you who are interested here is another one. It too looks to be a Uberti parts gun and a five digit serial number.

I guess we can assume that the extra cylinder is 45acp, although the ad doesn't actually say.

So I’m pitching this question again.
Does anyone have any information on a factory 6 digit serial number (200012) on a Bisley model?

Wondering if it was a custom SN at the customers request or factory issued.
I have never seen six digits before.

Thanks fellas…..

Gun K1n6,

I think the only person who might know would be Gary Granger. He is on this site as GaryG and I thought he might have chimed in by now. You might try to private message him if he doesn't chime in on this post.

Maybe the serial number matches the serial number of a Colt Bisley which was a 6 digit number?
My best guess.

Can’t help with your specific question.
However I have an all blue single action with a 5 1/2 barrel with SN 118937. It also has an extra cylinder chambered for 45acp. It was made in the late nineties.
Probably an Uberti parts gun but a fine six gun.

Very interesting…..
The second gun for sale from the same estate is also a Bisley 7.5” barrel with with SN 20302 which would not be 100% USA.
So if purchased around the same time this may make some sense.
Still no explanation on why some guns have 6 digits.
They may be very early guns???

The serial is custom as the rest of the gun is I believe.

I’ve got a fair sampling in my brace of Bisley models.
Two are typical 5 digit serials in the 27xxx range that flow with the standard single action serials.
One is a custom serial that’s initials and my dad’s birth year ..   NC1948
And another that’s a six digit 315xxx

So any guns serial could be about as unique as one wanted it to be if they’re choosing to pay for one, or the otherwise just the standard 5 digit.   I’ve had  several that have come and gone that were standard 5 digit serials.

There's another 6 digit Bisley on Gun Broker. It looks like a Uberti  parts gun to me. Too bad , I've been looking for a US made one for years
