Fort Scott, Kansas

Caleb Hobbs:
I was wondering if anyone here has ever visited the Fort Scott National Historic Site in Kansas. Fort Union, ND, portrays the year 1851, and Bent's Old Fort in Colorado portrays life in 1848. Does Fort Scott portray a certain year? Anyone know if there are any events that depict life in the 1840 to 1865 time frame, besides their Civil War camp?

Tascosa Joe:
I have been to Ft Scott, but I dont not have their schedule.  But they have 2 or 3 big events each year.  The portray 1840's/Mexican War era I think.  Books O'Tool, who posts here some, was a regular re-enactor there for many years.  For a post that is land locked by town, it is a pretty neat place.

Caleb Hobbs:
Thanks, Tascosa Joe. I'd heard it had a focus on the Dragoons, but I've never been there and don't kow much about it. When the subject of Jacob Snively and his Texas freebooters came up in another post, it sparked my interest again.

Tascosa Joe:
They have 10 or so original buildings.  They also have a horse/mule barn and a couple of cannon with limbers.  All in all a good place to spend half a day.  The day Kay and I dropped by they were having grade school field trip.  Most of the docents were high school girls some dressed in Army uniforms others as civilians.  I think the kids (docents) could have been schooled a little better before they gave seminars to the grade schools.  But volunteers are volunteers.
