Coffee is up....

Seldom wear a lid these days of any kind.  Couple caps with US flag on them when I do.  Got a beautiful Black custom hat I haven?t worn in some time now... neeeds a new liner. But felt and sweatband  are 100% solid.  I have a palm I wear occasionally when really sunny outside. Once a year.

The cats and I are having a planning session tonight to see what mischief we can get into while she's gone.

Second cup of coffee down , house is noisy this AM. We have a young lady we have known all her life clean for us every couple of weeks. She has her brother's girlfriend with her and these two are a hoot! Hope it works out for them she seems like a really sweet girl. Today's goals are to strip and scrub, again! an old Colt I got last week, this poor little pony has been very neglected, so it's gonna need some more TLC. I ahte seeing good guns [or any kind of machine] just neglected...

I've handled but not shot one. Feels good in the hand. But I was in the market for something more concealable, looked at the LC9s some, but ended up getting a Smith &Wesson Shield 9. Fit my hand better than the small Ruger.

All the small framed pocket guns feel better in hand with a extended magazine. It takes a lot of practice to feel comfortable otherwise. Most fail to fires/cycling on the small frame are said to be due to limp wristing. Extended mag will help the grip more. Had a little Kel Tex,it improved handling 2 fold. JMHO

Del- I believe Pony Racer had a pith he wore to matches

I run the ARX rounds in my Shield .40. The light slugs are quite a bit softer in the recoil department. Try those out in the ultra compact carry guns.
Title: Re: July Coffee & Fireworks
Post by: pony express on July 02, 2019, 10:09:42 PM
I have no complaints about the handling of the Shield, other than it shoots an inch or so to the left for me. Might be the way I hold it.  Before I was carrying an LCP .380. It always functioned, but never any fun to shoot more than a couple of magazines in it. I put the heaviest recoil spring I could order in it, that tamed it some. Shot my Concealed Carry qualification with it after the spring, it was an improvement.

I carried G22 .40 or my 1911. Open and concealed. About a  year ago I started carrying a SP 101 .357. It is as close to ultra light compact for me. Suzanne carries her Sig P238 and or her P229 one is strictly compact the other small and light conceals easily. She uses extended mags for carry. I have a couple .25s I wish extended mags were available for.
There?s a Walther and a Beretta here both 9mm but I don?t care for them. Step son likes the Walther.

Just got back from a chocolate run, had something weird happen, drove the wife's Equinox Yuppiemobile thing since I  was behind.  She thinks I should use the button on that expensive font thing instead of the switch knife like key thing.

Got brave coming out and tried to start it with the thing.  Worked after a couple tries, lights came on and it started up and drove off on it's own.

Then I found hers one aisle over behind a 3/4 pickup.  Dang they painted a lot of them grey.

Evening all.

Somewhat eventful day out here in Montana. I flew over to Big Timber and back, just barely ahead of afrog drowner.  I made it though.

Then I worked at the c-store on Rimrock (the one with the gas station) for the rest of the day.

I have to be up at 0430 tomorrow for my shift. After that, I may be able to take a quick trip to the toy store. It seems the one I go to has another little KelTec 32 in the case. I might be able to spare $180.

Morning Coffee is up...
fresh cantaloupe - eggs(from free ranging hens) - ham steak (from free ranging pigs)- and of course buttermilk biscuits. (From planted wheat)

Our home weather machine said it reached a hundred yesterday....49% humidity so it was sort of dry here.

Up now watching the Hummingbirds when gets hot the disappear till evening.

TK I remember a couple little airports out there .  Had a Payphone( you do know what one of those are right?) and a sign telling you where to call for fuel. You?d have to wait for the truck to get there.

Good morning y'all. Lttl Rooster you reminded me of a smile we all had at Church a while back. One of the young ladies there started selling eggs as a school project and went and made labels for her egg cartons, She is a character and the labels read "Ashlyn's chicken butt nuggets" but when she made some more, she forgot the word chicken on the next batch of labels. I thought our Pastor was gonna bust a gut laughing!

ON THIS DATE IN 1776: Thomas Jefferson purchased a thermometer from a local merchant before signing the Declaration of Independence. According to his weather memorandum book, at 1 PM it was cloudy and 76 degrees.
Info provided by ABC 3340

76 degrees, coincidence? I think not ;D

Coffee is up.... sweet tea about ready for those of you that would rather.

No rain yesterday. Just Alabama hot n humid- fires up grill about 4:30 on shady side of house. Use lump style charcoal. It lites and burns so much better.  Cooked chicken legs and a couple cheap rib steaks. Good thing . I just get them in the house and youngest step-son decided to come visit and ate with us. He lives near by and said he could smell them cooking at home.  We ate so much we never got the cobbler set out on the fire. May have to do that tonight.

Toy store trip seems to have been successful. The owner of the P32 changed their mind on price, wanted more than the gun was worth ($230), so I bought one brand new for $245. I pick it up Tuesday or Wednesday.

I finally get my weekend off from work, after 8 consecutive 8-9 hour shifts. Now I'm off until 3:30 Monday.

If we can find one I have a purr'fect receptacle for the demon.  Both cats have taken the safe way out and are just sleepin' the days away.  Need something to get them in the mode of "we can party".  Shouldn't surprise me though, they are just being themselves.  They aren't old enough to go to the casinos, and they don't take too kindly to car rides to get there anyway.

Slim, you want to be very careful using handloaded ammo for self defense, If you get the wrong DA he'll claim that over the counter ammo wasn't deadly enough so you loaded up your own killer ammo. Bet thing is to find out what your local Police use and use the same...Unless they use ball ammo like in NJ.

I carry Critical defense in my Ruger SR9c, Federal 115 gr JHP+P+ in my Browning HiPower, Federal Hydrashok 230 JHP +P in my Colt 1911 Government model and 357 Magnum 130 Grain JHP Hydra-Shok Federal Premium Personal Defense Low Recoil for my S&W Model 28-2 and 38 Special 129 Grain +P Hydra-Shok JHP Federal Vital-Shot in my S&W J frames. These are the best performing ammo in my pistols as tested, They are accurate enough for me to take a head shot at 25 yards and a center mass shot at 50 yards. Your guns may like a different brand/type of ammo, I always recommend trying out as many different brands as your budget will allow.

Well, the Missus and 2 of our nieces just loaded up a 6 kids for fireworks. Uncle Kevin is gonna grab an iced tea and listen to a ballgame.

Both of mine are S&W J frames...The Mod 36 is a no dash hence the Critical Defense.
The other is a Mod 60-14 , I choose Critical Defense over .357 for comfort and better recoil control.

I have reloaded some wadcutters with Reddot only for practice, the factory Critical Defense is for carry for same reason the good Major mentioned.

Afternoon all.

80 and humid today.  Didn't get any shooting done yesterday, but maybe today.

In my Beretta, I use Winchester White Box JHP for defensive purposes. I had the opportunity to observe an autopsy on a fellow who had been shot with those, and I decided then that more expensive hollow points wouldn't be necessary for my 9mm needs. In 32, the story may be different.

We've made it halfway thru the wife's absence, and so far no one has ended up in jail or the pound!   ::)  I think we can make it.

So far we have had over three weeks of sunny hot weather (as in NO rain), and are looking at least ten more days of the same.  After all the rain we had this spring, the sage and cheat grass have grown massively.  Now it has dried out and is ready to blow-up.  We have already had several small wildfires in the area, but the fire departments have knocked them down pretty quickly.  Think we?re going to have a long fire season this year.

TK, good luck finding a holster for your .32. I've never really found one I like for my LCP. I suspect they would use the same holster, since the LCP and P380 Kel Tec are almost clones. Every one I've tried seems to double the thickness of the little gun. Could just pocket carry it, but I don't like the idea of a "no safety" pistol rattling around in my pocket. Don't want to carry a pistol with an empty chamber, since an unloaded pistol is just a club, and an 8oz club isn't worth much.

Howdy all!
Major the Super is a custom build, Caspian frame, ATI slide, Sig ramped barrel, the internals are either Wilson or Colt. I built it last year, did most of the work myself and had a local gunsmith do the trigger for safety. Nice shooter with one of the finest triggers I have ever gotten on a 1911.

Just got back from work. Nothing noteworthy happened today.

I like the desantis pocket holsters. I'm also looking at a Vedder holster for iwb carry. They're custom molded kydex, and pretty thin.

Living in a tropical climate light clothing is a must. Dockers Pants and an Oxford sport shirt is my daily wear.
I have found right pocket carry to be the most comfortable, easiest access and less printable carry for me.
I don't care for the IWB poke for all day carry.

Left is my Vest Pocket Gelesi , center the Beretta 950BS and the S&W model 36 or alternate Mod. 60. all are easily hidden in the rather deeper pocket of  Dockers style Pants. All are Desantis pocket holsters,

Had a very large Pecan branch break half off.  It now blocks the drive near the barn. Will see if I can get step son here to help get it at least off the driveway.  This happened between like 4 and 6 pm. We both had driven under it several times yesterday.  This branch is 12 inches at trunk and 25 foot long. Typical old growth Pecan.

All the critters fed and watered and turned out to find shade.

So Suzanne and I decided we could tackle the Pecan limb. I said earlier 25 feet but in reality, closer to 40 feet long.
I would like to share something to all here. Because of my lack of lungs... I am on Oxygen 24/7. So my time doing manual labor is very short. It is what it is. Things like using equipment with pull starters is out of the question. Recently we had been looking at Battery powered equipment. I have a trunk of battery hand tools. With no issues with them. Yet I wasn?t sure about a chainsaw or pole saw. Both important for property maintenance. Without a word mentioned about a month ago our oldest boy showed up with the Lowe?s brand 80 volt saw.  He helped his mother with some things around his grandfathers old house. Since he and his wife to be will soon be moving in there. The next week he brought the accompanying pole saw. Plus a extra battery. This morning after feeding, she and I put them on the truck and took them to the tree. I was impressed with the torque the saw provided. She and I had all the branches cleared off and were cutting the limb when Justin showed up. He and I were able (mostly him) to get the limb cut off and sectioned enough to move. If you are thinking about the battery powered saw. I think they might be ideal for the home owner. I have plum run a couple good Stils till they would run no more. So I know nothing last forever. I don?t know what the life is but I am sold on them.

Roo, are you going to let that wood season and use it in a smoker?

I was going to ask the same thing.

Afternoon all.

Day off work for me today. Next week will be 48 hours for me, which isn't much but feels like a lot at a convenience store. 6 day week, too. The check won't be bad though.

Took my girlfriend to a show jumping lesson today. She used to be a dreassage trainer, and now wants to learn jumping. So that was interesting. Different bunch of people than I am used to.

I can't speak to battery powered chainsaws, but my dad has a corded electric saw. It works pretty well for cutting >18" logs to firewood length, and if you bring the generator, it will work.

When I worked at the gun shop a couple years ago, we refinished one of those Rossi's. All we had on hand was walnut, and it came out okay. I think that cherry will really make it complete.

Over the wet spring two of our adult goats. Became sickly pneumonia brought on from wet weather - one passed away. Friday the other passed on. Suzanne is blaming herself for it. Of course we did all humanly possible for them.  The others are fine. We don?t own a backhoe so we had to hand dig in this hard ground to bury this one. Neighbor used his for the other one but was not available this time. This morning I ran to feeed store and picked up a bag of lime to mask the smell. Yes, A deeper hole would have helped.

So morning has been busy, hopefully this week will be uneventful.

Sorry for both of you. I fear the worst has come to my girl who disappeared in April. I missher so much. She knew when I was sick before I did.
Been a tuff year for animals for everyone this year.  Glen I remember when rowdy comeunto your life.

We are back and looking at pictures.  He had to be carried, it was time, wasn't till late last night.

He went peacefully, I was petting his head the whole time, we'll get his ashes in about a week. :'(

First of all, my sincere condolences go out to you guys on your recent losses.  I'm hoping to have my oldest hang in there for another year or so.  I've lost so many of my good companions over the years!

Roo

Those little critters are staying about 200 miles East of us this year.  several years ago they started their little migration just North of town near our range.  They don't carry you away, they just sacrifice enough of themselves to getting run over so the road is slimy enough they can push you and your car away.

Good morning folks! On the 2nd cup of coffee this morning, waiting for our cleaning gal to show up. She's a sweetie, kind of an adopted niece, crud we had her Mom in a Sunday school class when she was in High School, so we've known her all her life. Then, looks like I will head to the range for a bit. Y'all have a good one.

The day after is always the worst.

Cleaned and put the dishes away, took extra food and the toys out to BILs dog.

Going to start looking for a young black Male that needs a home toward fall, but wouldn't ignore one that popped up before, just not going to actively search till then.

This 2007 picture is fitting.

I am sure it is.

Another dang tree down this afternoon, this one a Oak not really big, but big enough. Landed on fence. And took a power line to other barn down. Got a lot of it cut off before a storm blew in. I am too old and my health is making this a challenge. I hadn?t sold my saddle yet, but I might list it... ::)

Changed our minds, we ain't waiting till fall, put in for a 1-2 year old black boy out of local lab rescue.  Also  to get on the list for others.

Waiting to hear back, they said it might take a week for process and to get approval.

Don't expect another Rowdy, expect him to be him and we'll accept him.

Name is Zeed, may try to tall him out of that if we get him.

Got the tree off the fence and power wire- need to clean brush up and jack the power wire up higher.

Del, maybe you can get the pup to answer to Zeke. It's close enough that it maybe easier to get him used to it. Looking forward to Getting this month over with and next month's travel.

Long story,  wife's heart melted all over the easy chair tonight and I  made a phone call.

Not sure yet but pretty sure one of these blacks is a Male.  If so looks like I'm getting an Okie dog.

Yeah wasn't going to do another pup, wife says we have to now. ;D

In Woodward Oklahoma, if it works I will pick him up in Kansas in two weeks, delivered via a Chuckwagon. ::)
