Howdy Y'all, He we go again, as they say in "Game of Thrones" Winter is coming.
-
And the dang pumpkin spice is here.
-
Did I get that one past the censor?
-
Well while you two fight off the pumpkin devils. I’ll get a pot of Coffee going.
-
Good idea Roo, it's overcast and chilly here today.
-
Try again.
Morning y'all.
Thanks fer the coffee.
'Tis 45 and overcast. High of 52.
Got about half way to verk, decided to come back and call the mechanic. The steering in the Beast is a bit squirrelly/unsafe.

Morning all.
My phone is the me it's 33 and foggy, but my body thermometer says 50, and my eyes say it's totally clear.
I slept through my alarm this morning, so breakfast didn't happen. I'm running on Snickers and coffee right now.
Del, a couple days ago they fed us candied sweet potatoes with pumpkin spice and whipped cream. I don't know what demon possessed the chef, but I felt like calling a preist would be warranted.

Pie with such is good, just use them instead of pumpkin. Otherwise bake them and add butter or deep fat fry them.
Likely wasn't whipped cream, but melted marshmallow. One of several evil of Thanksgiving/Christmas Dinners. Others include weird things called salads, green beans with cream of something soup and them nasty dried out fried onions on top. Also instant or lumpy mashed taters and of course heat and serve rolls as well as mince meat pies with little or more likely no meat in them.
One reason I don't mind working on those days, I can pick through the leftovers with out judgement.

Sweet potato pie is definitely good. I just prefer it without pumpkin spice. I like to cook sweet potatoes over a campfire, with some butter and maple sugar. Good food after a long hike. To the subject of origin, it was whipped cream on top. Redi-whip brand, from a can.
Weather is a little on the chilly side at 50 degrees, but nothing too bad. Should be flying later.
Got my truck back from it's overnight oil change. I dropped it off yesterday, but the shop didn't get to it until 4, and they closed at 5. I was in class from 3-4:30, then had a meeting directly after that went to 6. I miss being able to do the oil myself.

Sweet Potato pie=good.
Whipped cream on Sweet Potato Pie=good
Candied Sweet Potatoes=good*.
Candied Sweet Potatoes with whipped cream=weird.
*when prepared with butter and brown sugar and NO marshmallows.

We use sweet potatos around here like others use yukon golds or kennebecks (spelling). They are coming in season right now.
Del, i started sanding on it. . I don’t own a ordital sander that would make short work of it.

Glen the round griddle cleaned up. Not like i was hoping but it is useable again. A good orbital sander would finish it up nicely.
My sister said she would take any i don’t want now.
Sorting out better knifes from not so better one. To put in her yard sale this week end.

FFL had a ,
Dang nice 1884 45/70 Springfield made in 1890 .... nice wood, good cartouche(s) modeled Case , but nice 75% Blue
some pits just below the front Barrel band ( flaw's it some ) , real nice bore.
tight breach , correct sights with ramrod bayonet ,strong marks .
NICE gun, bad news is the consigner knows it and its stratosphere priced .... he's about 3-4 hundered over fair market value !
We'll see if he wiggles, when its sat for while... or maybe I'll be wrong and some wag with $$$$.00 burning a hole snags it.
In better news, I hit the Catfish place for lunch ....happy are I ;) say's me !

Evening all.
Weather took a turn for the weird today. Hail and freezing rain at 0300, then just overcast and 30 at 0800. By noon it was 60, and now at 18:45 it's 40 and sunny. Well, there aren't any clouds. Sun's behind the horizon.
Had a fun experience at the airport yesterday. And by fun I mean someone almost died. My flight school shares a ramp with two other hangars/businesses, one of which is an FBO(think truck stop for airplanes). Well, somehow a maintainer at the FBO got struck by a propeller on a Cessna while I was out tying down my Archer after a flight. Long story short, this guy is really lucky because he had arterial bleeding, but an ambulance was at the FBO after delivering a life flight. They got a tourniquet on him and off to the hospital. As someone with some medical training I helped out a little. So yeah. That was great right before dinner.
Today was less interesting. I got a stomach bug and spent most of the day in bed. I will-powered myself through classes, and now I'm back in bed watching Military Arms Channel.

Don't ever say fat old men can't get things done.
Plan A, take it apart in the back of the pick-up to make it easy.
Yep, rain every day off. Needed it unloaded so I can load for demo on Saturday.
Day off, starts raining just before I get outside. Waited till the shower was over and said the hell with it. Using balance, the leverage of the stove, luck and guts, both I and the stove are undamaged.

I'm stealing the picture and posting in a couple of my groups, don't garage sale it.

Fancy letter opener? Cigar knife? Nail trimmer?
30-some degrees today, and raining. Had a little white stuff this morning, but nothing stuck around. I have a simulator flight in a little while.
My sister was out with a friend yesterday in the city and got into a pretty significant car accident. Totalled the other car. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. The other driver was at fault (looking at a cellphone, going ~50 in a parking lot and blew a stop sign). 1999 Dodge half ton beat 2016 Subaru, and the winner is still on the road.

No, thought the picture was marked, it's an ink eraser, you scrape off the ink your quill or nib wrote wrong.

Well then.... How about that !
Never too old....to learn :)

35 and overcast in Billings. Supposed to hit 60 later on, but that seems doubtful.
On the docket for today, I have a paper that needs writing, and some studying that needs done.
Homecoming weekend has started. So that basically means that I'll be one of the few people without a hangover for the test on Monday. But, at least campus is pretty small so there are any crazy parties to keep me up at night.

Good middle of the night to all, my coffee has a bite - my nightcap, a drab of Irish in it.
Fall has fell, and rolled off the edge, and winter has come, or what feels like it, considering that a week ago, we were still entertaining 100 degrees or so. Early week, it got nice for an afternoon, then the wind got up and temps started trending down. Yesterday enough moisture fell from the sky to wet things, and today - Sunday - it was dark overcast and windy all day with temps in the mid sixties; 63 out as I post this at 0030 hrs.
Gonna go set about commencing to begin to start to get ready for the hay pile.
Later.

Walked into Wally World yesterday to pick up a few things, and right there in a big stack in the middle of the aisle-a pallet full of various kinds of breakfast cereal, but all in pumpkin spice flavor. Punkin Spice Frosted Flakes. Yuk. That was NOT one of the items picked up.

Made it to a warm 35 today. Most of the white stuff from yesterday is gone, though.
Didn't do a whole lot today. Went to the store for some cream to put in my coffee, got a box of Mason jars to put stuff in. The local Ace hardware carries baking ingredients like flour and confectioners sugar. I found that curious.
This evening I'm going across campus to watch a movie with a friend in the aviation program. We're going to watch Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven, because neither of us have seen it yet and it's time to change that. She's got the Netflix, I've got the popcorn, it's time to watch Clint Eastwood.

I don't know if anyone in here has ever seen the movie Traded, staring Trace Adkins (with Kris Kristofferson), but if you haven't, don't. Good gracious. They call it a western, but it's more closely related to a "how to make blood splatter special effects" instructional video, with interspersed moments of soft core porn. We didn't finish it.

Hint, any movie with Kris Kristofferson ain't worth watching.

Not a big Trace Adkins fan. He does have a better singing voice than ol’ Kris. And his singing is borderline to his acting. I just watched the trailer for that one and 2 others starring Trace. I’d watch any of them if i had them here.
I might add i admire what he does for Veterans and wounded warriors

We closed on the sale of our home in Wisconsin last Friday and then headed for St. Petersburg, Florida. We drove thru Asheville, NC and St. Augustine, FL on our way to St. Pete. We will stay at my son's home while we look for a condo to settle in permanently.
Lots of crazy drivers on the way down. Tailgating within one car length at 80 plus mph is not a good idea IMHO. I did this trip a few times on my Harley and was much more comfortable on the Harley then in my car. Must be old age.
There was frost at our range on Saturday morning and 94 degrees in St. Petersburg today.

Welcome to Florida :) the only ice you'll find here is in your freezer for your Ice tea.
only snow .... might be in a Chevy headed up I -95.
We got humidity and humility, Love bug's twice a year, Hurricane watch from June to November .... daily afternoon thunder storms
like clock work in the summer....
then again, we have no State Income tax , no claimed 1/2400 % Indigenous peoples, and usually a ranked collegiate football team or two.

As well as gators.

Greetings My Dear Johnny
good luck in your new abode! I recommend you look for a 2nd floor ( at least) concrete construction dwelling, on higher (somewhat inland) ground rather than low and near the beaches :-) since the pattern of monsoons is ltrending worser rather than betterer....

Clear blue skies, 65 degrees, with a light wind out of the SW. Perfect day, and perfect for flying.
It's first day of midterm break today. I don't remember ever having a midterm break before, but I'm not planning on complaining. It means I don't have class, and there are more airplanes available. I'm flying in a couple hours.

Evening all.
60 and sunny today. Looks like there might be some white stuff in the mountains to the South by morning.
I felt slightly productive today. Did better in my last psychology test than I thought, and did two hours of time in the $300k simulator. To quote on of the professors who was watching, I have "good crash landing skills." This was in response to my successful (non-explosive) landing after an engine failure. So I guess that's a compliment. That's how I'm going to take it.
I never understood that lottery business either, Del. Seems a waste of money for really bad odds. And since my continued existence as an aviator relies on not winning bad odds, I think I'll pass.
Now if y'all will excuse me, I've got a rendezvous with some long eyelashes tonight. ;)

Yeah i seen the 8mph... a zero turn can’t jump a fence or wade a creek< trust me on that one.
Capt. Ya’ll stir the beast in Delmonico with all the foo-foo coffee.
I need a little more cinamon in mine. Spell check dont work for me either.
Good amount rain thru the night. We were needing some. I read it should clear out this afternoon.
-
A Zero turn can and will take a fence out though ....yep ! I know first hand saw it happen ... about 10 feet in fact !
Wade creek ? ah no ...they don't float either, that also is a note in my book ! ::)
But when you pit an inanimate machine intelligence VS the Dumb ass Purp ...I'll vote inanimate machine & krama.
And in the case of one dude ....mowing to fast near a fenced protected retention pond VS just plain common since ....inanimate machine & karma wins again !
-
I didn’t think any one had seen me on zero turn at the fence....thiought i completely got away with that one.
-
;D wasn't you .... it was lawn service guy of hispanic descent....
I saw it happen, going full tilt along a chain link fence 8' high, caught the steering lever in the wire and whoop in and under he went full song in the retention pond drink dragging some of the fence with him....
Mess up his hand some ( broken I thing too ) pretty muddy & very wet also
Actually, I thought it was funny karma , yeah karma ;)
I was not alone, others were snickering too ....

I have a modest early to mid 20 Century helmet collection....
I had acquired an French "Adrian" to go with my Berthier
Was given an M17 “Brodie Helmet" in quite good condition
Next I purchased an M16 "Stahlhelm Helmet".
I had four major belligerents at that point.... ( the Brodie being the same pattern for both the Tommy's & AEF )
I figured to stop there...but
After some further study I discovered my French “Adrian" Helmet was in fact an M26.....Which led beyond the Great War
then my FFL gave me an M38 Luftschutz Helmet, this one needed some TLC , as someone had rattle can painted it black.
About a 1/2 pint of mineral spirits removed all of that revealing the original Luftwaffe blue...
yesterday I scored an M39 Soviet Helmet.
So I've advanced to WWII it seems :-X
-
Major, That Luftschutz helmet is worth around $350.00 in todays market, Your FFL must really like you or doesn't have a clue to WW2 militaria. Nice find.
-
You might Change your Alias to Col. Klink ::). That is nice guift you got there.
Couple years ago i found a a Viet Nam era pot minus the liner. I have no way of verifing age. Nearly bought just to wear as a daily hat. Just in case i needed to stand in front a judge. My sanity would be already questioned. If i wassn’t in such a hurry to get out. I would have collect a few more soveniers

Probably both, I frequent the place and have made several ID's & a few Appraisels on the old stuff , people bring in...
He is a retired LEO, and is good with 20th Century guns ...
But not to much in historical paraphernalia or 19th century firearms....He stocks CCW & Black guns mostly and I help him when the really cool stuff happens in...
The Luftschutz is missing the liner, I'd put the value a bit less....but still a little gem !
I've had and given away, several Viet era lids ... I was just going to do WW 1 ...but the "Adrian" was outside by a few years and then
the Luftschutz was gifted....so it follows that the M39 Soviet was in order at a grab me price.
