I guess you might say I've been AWOL for a while, but I'd like to announce the commencement of the Spring 2006 GAF Postal Shoot. As in past years I will be the coordinator for the match and registration is free as long as registration is done via E-mail and the target is downloaded from the GAF website. There is a $5.00 registration fee if i have to send out targets. All targets will need to be postmarked by May 31.
My e-mail address is cnp@nctc.net

Pitspitr,
Can you give us the particulars, or where the paticulars are posted? Like target size, distance, stance (shooting position), how many times can you submit, rifle, pistol, long range rifle ect... Most, if not all, of the information is posted some where, and if I think about it on the GAF web site.

I think 15 yards is perfect for pistols. Any target 25 yards or longer should be engaged with your long arm.

Luke:
I recollect it is 50 yds for rifle & 15 for six-guns.

The rules, target downloads, and other details can be found on www.grandarmyofthefrontier.org (http://www.grandarmyofthefrontier.org) Click on the "competition" link on the menu across the top of the page. There you will find the rules, approved firearms list and all the other information you will need to compete. The targets print on standard 8.5X11 paper and are shot at 50 yds for rifles and 15 for pistols. Luke, don't worry about your GAF # since you haven't been assigned one yet. As long as you've applied, that's all I care about.
Private Hoover, The distance for the postal shoot was something we went around and around about when setting up for the GAF Postal Shoot. I wanted 50 FEET because the 100 yd sight setting works really well at 50 feet and you can still use a target printed on a standard 8.5X11" sheet of paper. Finally I felt that many people might have a hard time coming up with a place they could shoot at 100 yds since our country is becoming more urban all the time. Others really wanted to use 100 yds feeling that you shouldn't shoot rifles at less than 100 yds. We eventually ended up compromising at 50 yds. It's not a compromise that makes anyone overly happy, but it is workable.

I was talking tactics there, sorry. Just the idea that if its 25 yards away you have plenty of time to engage it with your rifle, but if its under 25 use the pistol, and my agreement to the 15 yard reg for pistols.

Pitspitr,
I would check on the rifle as I found nothing in the instructions as to what the distance is for rifle. Read it again to make sure.

Hi OT
Apparently you are correct. With as much time as we spent on the wording of the marksmanship criteria, I'm surprised that we missed that. On the other hand we started out using 100 yds and found that it just wouldn't work at that distance with a standard 8.5X11 target. It maybe that when we realized that, and the distance was being changed it just got deleted. Whatever the case the distance for rifles is 50 yds. Hopefully the new webmaster can get that corrected.

Pitspitr,
Thanks, I thought that I was looseing it. From some of the other posts I thought that would be the distance, but then you always try to follow what the instructions say. When all else fails. ;D ;D ;D
