Yep, this is the official announcement.
And this thread will be the official thread reguarding information for the 2010 Grand Muster.
-
Seeing how my transfer from the Fleet Marine Force to the Grand Army of the Frontier is now official, I will have to make it to the fall campaign out in Tejas next year!
-
Note to self;
Shoot single shot category, not Mil-spec repeater. ;)
(Inside joke for '09 participants)
-
Yeah, for sure Single Shot!!! ;)

Is It firm on Lockhart for next year's Muster? I was under the impression that next year would be the Dallas area. Lockhart ain't that close to Dallas. It's closer to Austin or San Antonio. Lockhart does have purty good BBQ.
-
TEXAS ....... All Right ;D ;D
I'm interested in where and when this will occur so I can get it on my calendar. I sure hope it's not on a date in October that I always have an annual Boy Scout function. I really want to attend a Grand Muster. Once the particulars are known I'll start working on some folks to attend.
The Boy Scout Venture Crew 1872 that I work with does the US 4th cavalry dismounted and has a battery of 4 Mountain Howitzers, maybe we could work in some artillery.
Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw !!!!!!!
Scout 8) 8)
-
I can see the stage now..........timer starts when you fire the howitzer at the attacking forces...........
-
I want an Model 1866 Brass Gatling gun in 45/70 to mow down those targets.
-
I understand it is to be in November, and at least one artillery piece will be there. Huzzah! ;D
-

Oh, I forgot they have recently added a gatling gun but it is still being worked on and I have not seen it in person yet.
-

November would be GREAT!! Make sure it's not the first weekend in November because that will be the date of the SASS Southwest Regional at the Bar-3 in English Texas. We certainly don't want to conflict with that.
-
Let's see if I can figure out how to post some photos. If this works these are 3 photos from our artillery salute on Memorial Day. We only used 3 of the howitzers, I'm commanding the battery. ;D
Ok it did not work the first time, let's see if I need to post each photo seperate.
-
The first photo was preparing to fire. This photo is firing from left to right one piece at a time in sequence.
-
We have now completed the salute and turned to face the audiance.
-
Well, it looks like we got plenty of fire support for the main assault portion.
I think there's already going to be a cannon (bronze Napoleon?) there.

To all in the GAF,
The 2010 Grand Muster will be held November 12, 13, & 14, 2010 at the Plum Creek Carriage and Shooting Society range located
in Lockhart, Texas which is East of Austin. Capt. Delta Raider and his lovely Wife Kitchen Kate who are the owners of the range
are planning for the Grand Muster, and some of the best meals around.
So come and join them, and all the others to help make it the best Grand Muster of all.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance of Texas geography. I was under the impression that it was south of Dallas.(Which it is, but considerably farther south than I thought)
-
Pitspitr,
Lockhart is about 3 1/2 hrs South of Dallas, thats just down the road around here. About 15 1/2 hours from your house.

GREAT that makes it the weekend after the Southwest Regional !!!!! It will go on my calendar and I will start spreading the news. I had the pleasure of shooting at Plum Creek last year when they hosted our Texas State Rifle Association Cowboy Action State Shoot. It's a Great facility. Everyone should enjoy it.

Yep everthing is BIG in TEXAS. and as you can see in the post from Texas Sarge we tend to talk of travel in driving time instead of miles. ;D
-
Yep we do too but I was thinking more like 1 1/2 hours instead of 3 1/2 hours :-[
Anyway I got out the old google map when I got home from as soon as I got home from the muster and am planning now.
Anybody from Kansas wanna car pool?
-
Yep, used to drive a couple of hours to shop in San Antonio or 45 min. to McDonalds in Eagle Pass. Welcome to Carrizo Springs, TX, the home of the worst, John King Fisher and the best, Ranger Capt. Allee. The only place in US where you can shoot gators in the mesquite and prickly pear and catch the ugliest gar in existance....Dimmit County and the Nueces River. Now, that calls for a REAL......YEEEEHHAAAWWW! Remember, it may be hot, but it's a DRY heat.

I'm marking my calendar now. Ain't no way I'm missin next year! I got a hankerin' to do somethin "different". Those of you that seen old posts may have an idee...
Col. Pitspiter, Sir, You're welcome for an overnight stay, though we are a mite far from I-35. I will probably head out of here that Thurs night or Friday morning. With coordination, maybe rendezvous and caravan from OKC.
Guns
-
I'm making plans to go also. Will be driving from KCMO.
-
WCJ,
Well, it'll be almost a "straight shot" for you - well you can stay on I-35 all the way to Austin, anyway. I have to take 75 to Tulsa, then I44 to OKC, then south on 35.
Went to Ft. Hood from OKC once - seemed like it took forever.
-
Yep, in Texas we drive 3 hours just to go watch a football game!
Capt Mack
Gig 'Em Aggies!
Beat the hell outta Kansas State!
-
Mack we have to drive 3 hours to see football games too. But we actually get to see our team WIN ;) ;D
-
OOOOO, you'll pay for that remark! :-[
-
;D ;D ;D
-
What about accomadations for sleeping?
-
Aaaah, sadly, I would have to drive 5 hours to see my Kstate Wildcats lose......this time.
I doubt I can make it next year, but will keep my fingers crossed on that. Have to take a vacation sometime ya know!
DM
-
DM, It looks like your K State Wildcats are hosting the Fighting Texas Aggies from Cow College this weekend. This is Texas/ OU weekend in Dallas. The celebrations are not what they used to be. I attended a few during the 60s as a college student and the 70s as a Police officer. I'm gonna be at home this weekend and not a participant.
-
Cow College? At least at MY University Men date women unlike t.u.
Capt Mack
-
I didn't go to UT, I went north of the Red River to Oklahoma State AKA Oklahoma A &M, so I went to Cow College in Oklahoma.
-
Best pencil me in.....My heart will be there...
-
Go Bugeaters, Well we need to be PC. ;D
BTW what is this football you speak of. ::)
(Dreadin' the folks tommorow who will wander into the OWS with their N for nowledge on their shirts and will ask me if I really sell any of this stuff.) ::)
-
Shucks guys, I have a Longhorns hat with OU, OSU and USC hangin' off the horns and upside down as they should be. Used to whip up on Ark. until they got cold feet and headed for the SEC. They got tired of always being beaten by a Texas team. Bring on them Wildcats, Jayhawks, Hawkeyes, Tigers and Cornhucksters. We'll get 'em all before it's over. I also believe in the Tooth Fairy. ;>)
-
AP ratings don't mean much in the Texas/OU, Texas/Texas A&M, or the OU/OSU games. It's all about who wants it more. Today. it seems like OU.
-
Looks like the "Horns hooked 'em today. I think Bradford's done.
-

I'm already planing on using my Sharps carbine in .50-70.

Single shot? Mil-spec repeater? We need more people to shoot Staff Officer, especially since the rules have been clarified. ;D
-
Thinking of doing the staff officer in Confederate uniform with cap and ball revolver!!
I will have to start practicing my 100 yd shooting!
-
Yer gonna leave me to face the man all by myself!? :o
-
Drydock, maybe we should try to get him to move to Missouri.......might make the plaque easier to defend.......
-
Col. Drydock, I've got faith in you to defend the Championship at the Muster next year. I'll be cheering you on. "YOU CAN DO IT"!
-
I will have to start practicing my 100 yd shooting!
Hello JEB, The farthest target engaged and hit with the pistol at the '09 Muster was 211 yards -by Chaplin Little- I think he was running 6.0 gr of Trail Boss behind a 230 gr .45. I heard some ridiculous rumors those crazy Texans have constructed strange target machines that spin or swing while you shoot at them. Don't know how true the rumors are, but no ones talking targets so it kind of makes me wonder.

Ohhh....so we will be facing the "Texas Star" when in Texas? Actually sounds appropriate. And FUN too.....
-
You got a whole year to think about "The Texas Star". Remember, You can always tell a Texan, You just can't tell him much.
-

;D ;D ;D 8) 8) ;D ;D ;D
-
OK, so when were you all going to tell everyone about these strange devices?
You got a whole year to think about "The Texas Star".
And ya'll have a whole year to practice on the infernal contraption. I like the odds! ;D
-
You can always go to the shooting booth when the carnival comes to your town.
-
That's an Idea, but they may not quite understand when I yank the Colts New Army .38 out of the shoulder rig.
-
Using Google Earth, I think I have the location spotted.
Paste this Lat/Long In the "Fly To" box and I think it will take you there:
29 49 09N, 97 42 40W
If somebody knows for sure can they confirm this?
If I have it right, all I have to do is get on my horse and head out on a bearing of 168 degrees and go for 1,666 miles. If I make good time, I'll have to start about the third week of August and I'll get home sometime in February, depending on the snow.........
Using my motorized conveyance it looks like it will be 34 hours of driving (2,095 miles)...........hmmmmmmmm
-
That sounds like a fer piece of drivien! EH!

Yes, I looked at your lat/long on Google Earth and that is indeed the place.

It will be a wait & see what my schedule is for next year.

Dusty, We will show you some Texas hospitality if you come down for the Grand Muster in Texas

Mmmmmm .... as I recall, for you we more or less just made 'em up as we went along, this year, didn't we???? ;)
-
Mmmmmm .... as I recall, for you we more or less just made 'em up as we went along, this year, didn't we???? ;)
Yes, we did. That's why we clarified them with the Little Rule.
-
Pitspitr, If we have the Little rule, do we have a Big rule as well?
-
Something to do with Texicans and snow, I'm sure . . .
-
Drydock, Hopefully the Big rule won't be in effect next year at the Muster. It normally don't snow that far south.
-
Guess I wasn't paying attention .... what does the Little Rule provide?
-
RSJ, I guess you need to contact Pitspitr to get the particulars on the Little rule.
-
Just take a look at the updated class description for "Staff Officer" in the rules thread.
-
I am really looking forward to the Grand Muster next year down here in Texas. I usually make the trip to Nebraska a 2 dayer, so only driving about 4 hours will he a short hop for me.

Bob:
Does your post mean that you are giving serious consideration 6o attending the National Muster in 2010? ??? ;D
Would certainly be great to have another member of the Department of the International present! I have attended five of the six held so far - the first two in Kansas, one in Iowa and last two in Nebraska. I missed the first year they held it in Iowa because it fell on the same weekend as our local autumn invitational cowboy action shoot. This year presented the same problem ..... but this time I opted for attending Muster!
(Does that tell you something? ;) )

This is a Mapquest link. The ranch is at the end of Pin Oak Rd

Kevin:
Have my orienteering skills correctly placed the ranch/range location where "X marks the spot"?
-
I've been to Lockhart several times to pickup prisoners at the County Jail and the prison. There are two good BBQ places there. I've never spent the night there, so I can't recommend any of the Motels there. I know they have a Best Western there.
-
Hey Jack,
Yessir that is the exact spot.

Jake do you already shoot at Lockhart (Plumb Creek) ? We shoot on the first Saturday of the month and have a GAF class every month, and this month Kichen Kate is having a Thanksgiving dinner for all the shooters. Hope to see you 11-07-09.

I'll be there with my appetite!

Capt Mack
-
Texas Sarge,
I cannot usually make it for your shoot, as the 1st Saturday of the month is the Men's Prayer Breakfast at my church. Should that ever change, I will make it down your way and check out your fine range! Quite a few of my friends shoot there already.
Thanks for the invite!
Jake
-
Captmack I have never seen you wityout your appetite.....................................
-
Look who's talking! You always get a bigger plate than I do!!!
Mack
-
Just remember that too much of that Turkey makes you sleepy!
-
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
-
It sounds like Scooter has eaten a lot of Turkey today.
-
As usual we stuffed ourselves. Kitchen Kate always rolls out a big spread!
Capt Mack
-
We had a great match too!
-
Guess no one here checked the NCOWS forum. Looks like we may have a conflict here as the Ten Horns, located just east of Dallas, hosted the first NCOWS SW Regional on the second weekend in November, 2009. I know they plan on hosting another regional in 2010 on the same weekend. Don't know if they will move to a different weekend in 2010.
Cole Bluesteele
-
Cole, That maybe hard to be in two places at the same time.
-
Lawdog,
That's the idea. Maybe the Lockhart crew should reschedule for the third weekend and that way shooters who do SASS, NCOWS anD GAF could hit all three matches back to back to back weekends.
Cole
-
The Grand Muster has been planned for the second weekend in November of 2010 at Lockhart, Tx for over a year. Sometimes you just have to attend the shoot where your heart tells you that you will have the best chance of making that a better shoot by your attendence, as well as that of the others that will be there also.

TS,
The purpose of my post was to let folks know of an existing match on that date in the same general area with an organization that probably shares many members. I myself am a member of both GAF and NCOWS. My hope was thatthe GAF event could be moved so as not to conflict with our existing NCOWS Regional weekend. It is unfortunate that this has happened, but as you say, participants can decide which one to attend.
Regards,
Cole
-
I wish every time I wanted to go to an event it didn't conflict with some other event or worked around my time frames.
You folks down there, I was gonna try to see if I could make it to the 2010 muster as a shooter and eat someone else's food for a change. Right now it don't look like it's going to happen, got a couple offers close to that where not only will I be able to demo dutch oven cooking for some very large crowds, the money is to good to turn down. Might have to give up deer hunting again as is because I think next years events are going to burn most of the vacation time as is.
-
Del, I'm sorry that you prolly won't be down here next fall, but you can't turn the money down. I plan on being at RCS and Pitspitr's Muster next year.
-
We had a great CAS match at Green Mountain today. Thanks to Texas Sarge, Scooter & Jake Jones for coming.
Anyone in Central Texas come out next weekend to Plum Creek at Agarita Ranch in Lockhart for our Christmas Match & Dinner.
Black Mack
-
Any more details about the match out yet? registration foms? entry cost? what guns to bring? not bring? looking frward to a trip south.
-
Bow View Haymaker
Capt Mack is trying to get the downloads from Pitspitr, the cost should be $100.00 meals included starting Friday morning thru Sunday noon meal before awards. Forms online will be here soon I hope. My computer is not not new enough for all that fancy input stuff, it's kind of like the cap and ball era of computers.

Thanks for the update. I will be looking forward to future dispatches. Be sure to let us kjnow if we can be of any assistance from up this way. our club bought a couple of stars for the new fangled crowd, but us cowboys and solders are going to practice up on them this summer. (won't help none but will be fun)!
-
OOOOOOK, Folks. It is now Mid-June and I ain't heard nothin' about the Grand Muster since April 29. So, what is the latest concerning round count, stages, etc. Anybody gonna shoot Staff Officer this year? Better yet, can you Texicans please get us some "COOL" weather (under 90 degrees) for this year's Muster so the "WOOL" isn't so scratchy? Looking forward to getting "back home" to South Texas, especially now that the Statute of Limitations is up.
LTC. Montgomery Little, Senior Chaplain, GAF - Division Commander, Div. of Missouri
Can't wait to post GTT on the front door.
-
Capt. Montgomery and All,
Well the Texicans just returned from the NRA Wittington Center for the last 11 days and will be getting the needed info out as soon as we can. Main match will be around 100 rounds rifle and sidearm. Side match rifle and sidearm will be around 15 each and around 35 for a expedition force match.
Oh and for the weather the chiggers and red bugs might still be in their swim suits you just never know. Will be getting back soon with more info for all.

I thought I had. I'll try again, but the newest roster I have is from last fall. Oops maybe I don't have an e-mail address for you can you send me a message for me to respond to?
-
Texas Sarge, what would be the cost for non-shooter meals?
-
Capt. Mack.
sorry to say this far out I'm not sure I will be able to make it. I am trying like all tarnation to see my way there, but work vs. time off is the big bugaboo.
I am definitely sending some excellent prize donations, though, regardless.

We sure hope you can make it. It won't be the same without you but I understand. Jake Jones, Scooter, Sarge & me just got back from the OWSA Nat'l Match in Raton, NM and I know about time off.
Thanks so much for sending the stuff. It will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully you'll be here to hand it out.

Capt. Mack, Glad to see you boys made it to the OWSA match at Raton. I was there the first week of June for the SHOOTIST'S Holiday. Had a great time and did some more long range revolver shooting. Best time shooting was on sight-in range with "66" at 300-600 yds. They hit but not so sure of a killing shot. A great time was had by all but couldn't stay for OWSA...wife would not allow Bob (SGMJ Cactus Rope) and I to stay together that long, especially with guns.
Looking forward to Muster in Nov. and a return to South Texas (gonna try to get back to Carrizo Springs for a day or so after the Muster.

Just got my Cowboy Chronicles for August and our boys must have raised a ruckus at the Agarita Ranch in March. There is plenty of talk about them in the article. Good work Gentlemen and keep things poppin' for the 2010 Grand Muster. Don't forget to invite some of these folks to the Muster.
