Title: Internet Trolls
Post by: Marshal Halloway on December 07, 2005, 12:37:29 PM
Have you heard the term troll used to describe a person on an Internet Forum ?

The following link is to an article written by Timothy Campbell.

For those who are interested in keeping our online community a nice place to stay, please take 7 minutes of your time and read it.

If anyone wants to see an example of a board suffering trolls, PM me and I give you the URL.  It can be visited and read without registration.  I rarely sign on.

It has nothing to do with shooting 'n no, it isn't a porn or political board.  It has to do with a national sport.

I agree.  It should be mandatory reading for every Internet board user

Perhaps you could get permission to copy it here and post it as a sticky and every member must read it and sign off before they can post.

I don't know if that's possible but it sure would be helpful.

If trolls are poisoning our group, then suspend there rights here for a while.then if they still wont play nice run them out of town! There is no more western tradition. Most people at some point or another offend someone weather or not they mean to.This is not for the casual offender, but Ill bet the moderating team could come up with a very short list without much effort. My wife and I board our horses at a public barn. of the 50 members there are two that seem to enjoy public outbursts. rather than allow these two people make the other 48 miserable they are going to find there privileges suspended for a short time, and if they still cant act right they will be asked to leave. its for the good of the community!

Scout, I doubt you have ever offended anyone.   In the 10 years or so I you and I have been on various boards I can't recall one message that wasn't informative, witty or in someway helpful.  You shouldn't change a thing Pard.

Great stuff Marshal, thanks for posting it.

The SASS wire has an ignore button and I use it.  Got 8 trolls in my cage over there. ;D  Do we have one here?

Don't feed the trolls.

Them's good words.  Yup, there's times my dander gets riled up and I'm learnin' slow not to take the trolls bait.  I'm also learnin' not to be one myself just cuz I feel like firein' off a broadside.  Tough goin', but I'm workin' on it.

Thanks, this thread helps to put it in perspective.

Here’s my rendition of a “Troll” (in smiley form) please feel free to use it with the [ img ] ----- [ /img ] brackets for tagging malcontents as they invade the tranquility of the board.

If management so chooses to add this to their repertoire of special smile’s for board members to use, have at it.

Here’s the URL:   http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b262/TDooley/568208321.jpg

I have used it myself on other boards, on several occasions, to give a heads up to fellow board members, and in every case the Trolls (once identified) departed, for greener pastures, or came to the attention of management, and got booted.
