Mystery '58

Mystery '58?  Well, not a mystery to me, but I'm pretty sure nobody will be able to identify the maker of this 1858 replica.  I took this pic in 2012, and just ran across it again on my hard drive.  Anybody want to guess?

Hint #1 : it is not Uberti

Matte blue...
 somewhat higher front sight
I seem to recall Pedersoli making a matte blue 1858 rather like that...

Hint #3 : It did not come from Europe.  It is a one-off sample.

You didn't think it would be easy?   :)

Might the actual maker be known under the alias "Abilene"...?

Bwaahaahaaa!  I wish!  I wonder if I could make a gun with my tools: A circular saw, cordless drill, and oh yeah, a dremel!

It's a 3-D printed Remington made to look like an Uberti Millennium!

The gun was made by Polytech (or whichever Chinese factory that was making the Cimarron/TTN 1878 hammer shotguns at that time).  The Chinese cannot make cartridge guns for export to the USA, but they can make percussion.  The idea was something like they would make percussion guns that would be very easy to convert to cartridge guns once they got here.  Possibly even with SAA type models.  But the idea did not come to fruition beyond this sample.  I don't know if they had an actual gun to copy, but I remember Bruce, the factory rep, meeting with Mike Harvey at Shot Show and taking a bag of parts with him.   This gun's action does function, but it feels very clunky.  Given the chance to shoot it, I think I'd pass!   It sat upstairs at Cimarron in Mike's office for several years, so I picked it up once and snapped a pic.

Looks really wonky.  Of course I don't like Remingtons anyways.  Even if they are Wonky Donkeys.

Icky Foo.

Interesting in an odd sort of way though.
