Thanks Major, sounds interesting.  I have made a nopales salsa, which went on some pork tacos, but never just the nopales.    It is my understanding the slime from these was applied by native americans to their parfleches as a water proofing.   If you go back on the history section I made some parfleches and used the prickly pears to seal them.   Slimy is a good word and when used in the salsa, reminded me of Okra in consistency.   They have an almost citrus bite, so they went well in the salsa.

An icecream shop in Nicosia, Cyprus used to make prickly pear icecream. A bit grainy, but I loved it. I try to look them up whenever I visit. (I married a Cypriot/American girl when I was a UN peacekeeper. And my son married a Cypriot/British girl! Note; The "matchmaker" was a lady that lived within a mile of me in Victoria BC!)
