Original Remington 1858 Navy
« on: January 10, 2021, 06:39:52 AM »
Some time ago I found this picture:

I am looking for a nice, sharp, high resolution picture of original Remington 1858 Navy like this one above, with white background, taken perpendicular on cylinder.

I don't want to say too much, but few of us are "dreaming a dream". Among various configurations, one could be something similar to this:

Thanks!

Onty,
For some reason your pics did not come through on my screen just a square frame and a "?". The other' did.

Thank you John. Interesting info, I never heard before about Beals. Previous picture, is that revolver bent, or just picture distortion?

I would guess distortion.

Regarding that 1858 Navy Target, on another forum I put the link for company in Canada that listed it. Now, picture is gone https://marstar.ca/product/pt-rgst36/ .

However, looks like the same model is available in Poland https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=pl&u=https://allegro.pl/rewolwer-pietta-remington-newmodel-navy-target-36-i6726123746.html&prev=search&pto=aue . It costs there about U$610. If it's stainless, I would order it in a heartbeat.

Here are left and right sides of my Old Model Navy. It's kind of beat and the loading lever is from a cartridge conversion, but it works!

Here's my transitional Navy, mostly New Model, but no safety notches yet, and a modified OM cylinder pin. These mix-n-matches were made during the switchover to the New Model.

AZ Trooper,
Looks like someone either replaced or bobbed the hammer spur on your Navy. It looks like a dog with its ears cropped (no offense intended). A lower hammer is easier to find & cock in a hurry or conceal the gun. I see lowered hammers on SAAs all the time in Cowboy Action matches from guys who shoot one handed (duelist style).

The Beals and Old Models had the high hammer spur, which tended to break off. When the New Models came out one of the changes was to lower the spur. This one is broken. I got that revolver in parts in a shoe box many years ago from an elderly lady in Berryville Va. She said that her husband claimed it was handed down to him by one of Mosby's Rangers. Then she added with a smile, "But he lied about other things too." It is government inspected.
