.45LC Spencer Concerns.
« on: December 15, 2008, 11:28:53 AM »
I know that the straight casing on the .45 LC has some extraction issues in Henry's and Winchesters.  Basically since it is not tapered like the .44/40 it tends to "drag" out.

Has anyone noticed such issues with the repop Spencers?  Has the long staright cause anyone frustration with feed or ejection?  I prefer .45 and all my guns are, but I also know the Spencer's reputation for feeding and since it will be used mostly for public demos with Ten X blanks, I can't decide on a .44 or a .45 and I can't seem to get a side by side comparison.

Any comments will be very welcome.

I have some rounds down my 45 S and W and have had no problems with extraction.  I have had to replace a magazine tube spring and shim the breech block but the actual firing of the gun has been no problem.  I am right now planning to convert my rifle to 45 Colt and I willl be cutting the chamber myself so I will be starting with a tight chamber and will let you know how it comes out.

If you want to shoot blanks out of your repro Spencer then you might want to read this article first. http://www.9thnycavalry.webeditor.com/spencer_article.html
The blanks only work in a 44-40 Spencer but will not work in the .45LC version as the action will not close completely.
