Uberti NMA Conversion Hand problem

Howdy folks! I have a Taylor's Uberti NMA conversion in .44-40. Broke the hand spring, and decided to replace the hand with a new one. Ordered it from VTI. Got the new part, and installed it, but cannot fully cock the hammer. I know these parts require fitting. The hammer will got to half cock, but will not go all the way to full. Haven't tried it yet with the cylinder, and won't till I get this problem licked. I know how to adjust for timing, but how do I get it to full cock?   Huh

The replacement hand is a bit too long. (Very typical with replacements Hands)

I have corrected this in one of two ways,
1. is to shorten the hand a bit with a file or by light grinding. (This can remove some of the hardness on the tip of the hand.)
2. is the bend the hand slightly, which will also shorten the length a bit without removing any metal.
This can be a bit more complicated to protect the hand screw hole (especially in the NMA Remington) and hand spring tension during the slight bending, but helps hold up the hardness if the hand tip.

I like the bending better, it last longer.

It is actually a little difficult to time the hand without the cylinder in the gun.  As the hand rises, without the cylinder to push the hand to the rear, it may well be hanging up in the slot.

An update. I have been very busy with work and had not been able to get back to the gun for some time. I did try everything with the cylinder installed. The cylinder would not rotate. On the conversion there is a plate with the firing pin. The hand has been pushing against this plate (installed correctly). I am going to order a new hand in the hope that it will be easier to adjust. A real pain I can tell you.

How close to the original hand does the replacement look?  Might give you an idea where it might need some shaping. 

Might be easier to replace the spring in the first one!

I'm no gunsmith, more of a tinker'er.  It was recommended that I purchase "The Colt single action revolvers: A shop manual--volumes I & II" by Jerry Kuhnhausen.  I purchased it off Amazon.com.  The book is the "Chilton Manual" for single actions.  FWIW, I found it useful in understanding single actions, and have used it for guidance to tune-up my SAA copies.  But, I've been fortunate that all the parts I used just needed polishing...

I am working on that right now. I do want a spare as I use this gun in competition. :-)

I shoot Remington copies, Colt copies, S&W copies... You get the picture. The conversion is the only one that has me scratching my head.

I like the suggestion to comparing to the original hand for shaping or interference guidance....and would also replace the hand spring.
Easy for me to say since I stock an assortment of parts for all my revolvers.

Ordering a few hand springs might be good idea, too.l

Maybe putting the original back in and observing would help?
