Why not just reload 44/40 ammo, still be much cheaper than buying 44 special

I will have to look in to attending that shoot in VA, probably not this year but the kids will be a little older next year and the wife and I want to visit there sometime. I've not heard of it before, is the event family friendly or not really something for them?

I'll pick up a band on ebay and will keep an eye out for a replacement forend. I appreciate the help!

Low Pressure, TS forming over the State
heavy rainfall could produce localized flash flooding over portions of Florida.
Rain for the entire state of Florida, southern Georgia, coastal Alabama, coastal Mississippi and southeastern Louisiana between Monday and Thursday.
I suspect nothing even close to the terror Texas and NC have seen.
 Still, warning to the wise.

Morning y'all.
Coffee and iced tea are ready.

'Tis 73, mostly sunny and humid. "Very warm and humid. Sunny. Highs in the upper 80s. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Heat indices to 96." Hopefully, it well stay under 80 in the house.

Tall Tales / Re: Copilot & AI

Quote from: Johnny McCrae on July 05, 2025, 10:20:30 AMI've been using a personal computer since 1980, mostly for business purposes. In my retirement, I build websites, provide graphic design services for local organizations on a voluntary basis, and write stories. Recently, I bought a new computer with Windows 11. A few days ago, I started exploring Copilot. Copilot is the free AI add-on that comes with Windows 11. Among other things, I asked Copilot to critique an ad I want to place. I was amazed at the result. Truth be told, I thought I did a decent job of writing, etc. I guess not!
Did it suggest anything specific that changed your approach to the ad?

The Barracks / Re: Ammo strap for pistol belt
Last post by Cheyenne Logan - Today at 01:10:49 AM
Still looking for more documentation.....have a couple of books on the way that may help, but it appears this strap for pistol cartridges was common to the 7th US Cavalry.....pictures are from a display at the LBH museum....yes it would have been saddler made and not issue, but appears to have been used in conjunction with the FWC belt, and possibly the Prairie belt.....would have been a good way to have pistol cartridges handy without digging in your pocket or a pouch.

Dang it! I was going to ante up a tintype I found on the book of faces of our honorable Delmonico riding shotgun but I can't find it now.

So I'll antelope up 116* F and 21% humidity outside right no.

We have all learned that same way. Depending on how much it's been thinned a band might still fit. Probably worth picking up a band to see.

S&S lists a replacement forestock that requires final fitting, but they are out of them. Might be worth calling to see when they think more might be available.

You might also try calling Ed Kneisley in York Pa. I use to have his card but can't find it at the moment. Hopefully someone will put his contact info up. He has zero internet presence so you have to call, but he has a lot of antique military arms parts.

If you are anywhere near Winchester, Va. in October, go to the N-SSA national shoot. Chances are there will be somebody there selling a stock.

Welcome to the exciting world of Spencers!

yes it is indeed for the one in the pictures, thank you for the help, I've seen a few on ebay but were either unknown  make or were listed for a rifle. I didn't know the forend had been thinned, this is the first spencer i've ever seen in person so I don't have an eye for those things yet.

The bottom band for a rifle is interchangeable with the carbine band. Dixie has them, part number SH0223. S&S Firearms lists the carbine band separately, SP188. I think the difference is that the carbines usually have the U marking to indicate which side is up and the rifles don't. Also, check to see if you need a band spring. It should be in the bottom of the stock a few inches back from the tip.

The swivel is going to be tough. S&S has reproductions listed, but they are out of stock. They do have original bases if that would help.

If you are buying for the carbine in the pictures, that forestock has been thinned down. A band may not fit.
