# 16789 - a Spencer Carbine issued to Company D, 5th New York Volunteer Cavalry on April 22, 1864;

# 16778 - a Spencer carbine issued to Company A, 18th Kansas Volunteer Cavalry in July 1867

# 16740 - a Spencer carbine issued to Company L, 2nd Michigan Volunteer Cavalry in 1864 (no day or month listed)

Really hard to determine which unit your Spencer was issued to . . . speculation is about all you can do with the above serial #s.
