IMR 3130 powder ???
« on: October 21, 2022, 10:00:31 AM »
I have been using 3130 in my rifle loads and have had pretty good luck with it. NOW the question,,,,, is 3130 temperature sensitive ?

I ask because i read a review that said he (the person) could not get 3130 to accurately shoot in any of his rifles and it was too temperature sensitive. He said 4198, and a few other powders all shot in the same rifles were "more accurate" than 3130, what say ya'll.

 Have'n coffee,  Hootmix.

My only experience with IMR3031 vs IM4198 is with lighter loads in .45-70. IMR3031 is slower-burning than IM4198, and may leave more residue in the form of unburned powder. I don't think 3031 is all that temperature sensitive. For example, I have used it in loads of 48 gr. in .30-06 with 150 gr. bullets, with no problems. Functioned in an M-1 Tanker Garand (18" bbl.) just fine down to around 30 degrees. (Didn't use it at sub-zero, however.)
