Occasionally one of her goats get out. They never wander out of sight of the others. So not a big deal to get in. Repairing fence sometimes is.
-
We've had a couple cool days (only 97 yesterday) but they say this coming weekend is going to be back in the 110 range. Phoenix area has had 50 or so days of 110 or higher.
Good grief, will this summer never end! Think I'll have another cup of coffee. (smile)

No kidding... I was in Bass Pro a few weeks ago to get a generator .... looked in the ammo aisle , aside for a handful of Shot Shells in 20 gauge maybe 5 boxes of 410 ...Nada
No 223 Cal/or NATO , 9mm , 45 ACP or 38/357 period ... the shelves were barren, I did see a lonely 50 round box of 44 mag.
Zip= NADA in .380 , 32 ACP ....
on the other hand, glass showcases were well stocked with many handgun... Glocks, Sig's, Ruger's and about 10-12 Uberti miscellaneous SAA's.... Racks held hunting & black rifles & some Shotguns
apparently, guns are plentiful, but you'll still have to throw rocks for a ballistic deterrent ::)
-
Coffee is up.
You realize you can reload .223 and 9mm also?
Wake up

Morning y'all.
Thanks for the coffee.
I primed 700 9mm cases the other day. BTW, primers are in short supply, also.
Verking from home today with an ear ache. ::)
BTW, the following is from the CDC website:
"Comorbidities
Table 3 shows the types of health conditions and contributing causes mentioned in conjunction with deaths involving coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death. The number of deaths with each condition or cause is shown for all deaths and by age groups. "

Local sportsman’s and cabelas are pretty barren if any non-magnum handgun ammo. I picked up the last box of 38spl fmj last week. Most hunting cartridges in both rifle and handgun are around. Handguns themselves are a little thin in the micro-9/380 area. Everything else is in stock.
About to head out for Kentucky. Hope to make at least Sioux City tonight.

Are you flying ?

Slim, my wife pointed out the same article as proof that these deaths were being misreported.
Regardless, it still begs the question, would they have died if they hadn't contracted Covid-19?

I've got a lot of questions, but doubt I'll get any answers. I wear a mask because I'm high risk but I don't think everyone needs it and despite people saying wearing a mask doesn't cause breathing troubles it causes them for me. But what would I know, I'm just the guy fighting a respiratory problem I ain't educated beyond my intelligence. And I will keep wearing in stores and such because even though it won't stop everything the more it stops the less my body has to fight.
Didn't have any colds or flu this year either, might keep wearing one in those seasons just to make sure I don't catch no Lizard Flu or what ever else comes along.
-
I had something back in January ( before the hoopla, Hype and hysteria )
Low fever, woozy, odd taste , sinus drip...yada yada ..chalked it up to my sinusitis in the Spring.
but it was over is 2-3 days ( that does not happen with Acute Sinusitis )
the cough lingered 3 weeks, and tapered off ???
One of my Carpenters had the same symptoms a few days latter ... I'm not say'n' I had a mild case of Covid but it is in the back of my mind, I might have. :-\
I wear a mask out there , I figure, like Del " more it stops the less my body has to fight "
I'm old , over-weight and don't tempt nature...did I mention I'm old ?
-
Wear a mask if you feel you need it. I will not be mandated to wear one... end of subject Grandma Ivey. It is bad enough I am in the severe area over 60. Been on oxygen for over 2 years.
On the lighter side. Glen this is your neighborhood quite honest I was surprised I didn’t see you there

I was wearing one before they started the mandates, been wearing something since I came home in January.
As for the chicken scraps debate I don't give a rat's poop, just make chicken and noodles out of the scraps, who ever invented Buffalo wings was a good marketer, convince people something almost worthless is good and you can sell it to them for much more than it is worth, not paying more for chicken scraps than T bone, they is $%&#ing dumb.
But on the other hand we know he is right and I understand his ploy is to make them talk about something else than the above. We do things different here, we have a conservative Democrat mayor and yes I voted for her, the R that ran against is one of the lowest people you will ever meet, I think she'd stab you in the back on her way home from church, I know her, she's my grandson's other Grandma, not happy fully with the one we got, but much better than the other choice, got into city council by a landslide and then lost big time in the Mayor's race, guess others seen through her. ;D

My fiancé is buying a horse from a fellow she used to work for out here. It’s a blooded Lusitano, and she was part of training both sire and dam. We’re picking it up this weekend.
Roo, close. Harrodsburg.

Super neat
I don't horse around much anymore, Daughter has just the one now.
In my day though , I've owned a fine Saddlebred , two TB's, two Quarter's , a Tenn. Walker and an Arab...
That would be me out front row left, officer stand on the Saddlebred
and another a bit clearer.
-
Where's everybody at? I guess I'll set the coffee water on the fire.
-
Morning all. I could use the coffee.
Got into KY around 6 last night and got the sway system installed on the trailer. The trailer was bigger than expected, but we’ll still be well within the limits of the truck.
We’re meeting the horse today.

Thanks you the Coffee...
Was up early heard a cat scream just before daylight. One is missing. Then helped Suzanne load truck for farmers market.
Time for coffee now. Finish watching “Missouri Breaks” , now. Ya’ll shouldn’t mentioned it last week.

Then followed by customary lunch w/ my shooting pard ...today was Firehouse Subs ....
May poke around the reloading room later, and/ or I may watch Dunkirk I've yet to see it.

Met the horse and worked on trailers. Only broke two halters and a taillight. :-\

I'm guessing the horse isn't a fan of small confined spaces on wheels? Had that problem before.
Lots of work here. We bought a new(to us) double wide. Hauled in and blocked up last week. I did the tie downs yesterday, wired up the generator for temporary power, hooked up a hose for temporary water. Changed out all the ceiling lights that didn't meet with the Mrs.' approval. Working on some small drywall repair. Next is wiring for a couple of overhead lights and a ceiling fan, and trim out the parting line in a couple of places. Don't like working on overheads much any more. Can work for about a minute at a time and then I have to put my arms down.
-
If I bend over it cuts off my oxygen - if I stretch upwards my joins ache so bad I can’t move.
-
I've made big progress on the bending over in the last week. Overhead, forget it.
-
Coffee is ready- feeding the cats n dogs now. Another sunny cool morning humidity is way down. Just days away from fall. Watched hummingbirds working the rose of Sharon and myrtle the past couple days . They are getting ready to leave now.
-
Thanks Roo.... having my cup now
Made a mushroom & ltl' smokies omelet to have with.
"SHE" is off to church @ 11AM ,
ME ....I'll stay put with a light cough from my sinus allergy ( no point in alarming anyone ) ::)
....still have not seen "Dunkirk" ::)
Expecting rain today , guessers say "Thunderstorms with a 45% chance of precipitation"

Saw "Dunkirk" ::) once will do....the film editor butchered it....
Continuity was confusing at best , a disaster at worst, as Day turned to night and back to day in succeeding scenes .... ???
That is the longest dead stick flight at low altitude ( including a kill ) I've ever seen ....
And 300,000 troops ...were ? I've seen more at the beach on Labor Day ... ::)
I watched it , I suppose it kept my interest .... on a scale of 1-10 ---- maybe a 3 - :(
-
i watched it last week. Not sure I would watch it again. I did enjoy the old private owned boats.
-
The one I want to see is Ford vs Ferrari, wife does to, had planned on having a date afternoon when it came out and our world kinda fell apart for a while. Carol shelby was an interesting guy good automotive guy, myself I like his Sunbeam Tigers the best. Pissed off the vain Italian guy, pissed off the one track mind Chevy guys and fought hard to keep beans out of chili. ;D
-
That was a good bip-flick , I would not have seen Matt Damon as Shelby but he carried it...
Bale was good as Miles...
I was totally immersed in the GT 40's saw them win at Sebring & Daytona. Sebring was Mecca for me in the mid Sixties & seventies
It was like Woodstock to me with prototype racing :) Porsche's , Alfa's, Mk 1 & 2 Fords , and Ferraris it was heaven in March !
I like the film !
-
Morning race fans.... some hy test coffee is brewed. Will keep you running to the left for a extra lap or two.
Nothing new here... they say it is Labor Day, so let’s get at it.

Morning all.
In Kansas City today, with a broken trailer and horse. Horse had a meltdown while unloading last night and banged himself up a bit. Broke the trailer some, so I’ve been working on that most of the morning while the future Mrs. TK did some doctoring. Horse is okay, but we’ll probably have the vet look at him tomorrow before we leave.

Weather been pretty mild over nights here, still reaching 90° in afternoon
Calling for rain end of week here.

Morning all.
Raining and cold in Kansas City. Had waffles and sausage for breakfast.
Have the truck in the shop getting looked at. Hoping it’s just a sensor: the mechanic seems to think so.
—TK
-
Well, bad news.
The mechanic looked at my truck. It’s the torque converter. Basically, it will be more to repair the part than the truck is really worth. So, I guess I’ll be getting a new truck. Until then, they said with some codes reset, I can run back to Montana, and figure that all out over the weekend.

Hate hearing about vehicle break downs. There is never a convenient time for them.
Went back to bed for a couple hours hooked up respirator. I feel a little better now. I have had a few restless nights the past few. It doesn’t help with breathing.

TK, If your route had come through Lebanon, Mo instead of the I-70 way, I could hook you up with my Transmission Guy. I don't know the specifics for your Ford, but he'll do a complete rebuild on a Chevy Blazer transmission for $1600. Sure, that's close to what a mid-2000s Blazer is worth, but I use them for the mail route, and I'd rather spend it on a rebuilt tranny than just buy another 15 year old car and take my chances.

I got to verk a little before 0800 central time. I didn't have to radio on the way there. Soon after, I watched the plane hit the second tower.

We were working, preg testing and sorting off heifers for a out of state buyer. On a big farm that ran parallel to the interstate. About a hour due west of the pentagon. The Truck Drivers coming in to pick up the cattle kept us filled in.
Traffic east bound stopped except for emergency vehicles. Traffic west bound was lite. Military aircraft and helicopters traveled near and overhead.
That evening I went stocked up on some rifle Ammo.
If I am not mistaken Pony Racer was near the Pentagon around the time the plane crashed there.
I was a kid when Kennedy was assasinated. Even more than 9/11 I recall the air raid drills as a small child in school. Not truly understanding the Cuban threat I remember being horrified by hearing the news mentioning Cuba or Castro. Just as I was with bin Ladin.

I was at work in the Post Office, sorting mail. The carrier in the next case over from mine had a radio on, said "A plane just hit the World Trade Center." No details, I just thought some lost Cessna driver hit a tall building, probably mostly bounced off. But the time the second one hit, we knew different. Didn't see video until after work.

Still has the original civilian circa 1923 Colt 1911 ( Turnbull refinished ) $ 3$$$.00 (in the ozone )

They are from the same collection.... and the consigner is a dreamer

Well,
We are about to head off to one of our favorite casino/restaurants to celebrate our 33 years of her putting up with me. I always remember the date because the next Saturday is her birthday, so we will venture out again to the strange new world of trying to eat thru masks. I remember her first birthday after our marriage was on a houseboat on Lake Meade. No masks then!
-
Congratulations and happy B-day to the Mrs.
WE also celebrated our 33rd this year, pre-declared pandemic
-
Lexie is making the best out of this mask thing, has grandma make one to match each of her outfits. They were looking through material the other night and someone started nosing through it also, picked this one. ::) So Rita made him one, whatever. ::)
-
Happy Birthday to Mrs Russ T Chambers....
-
Greetings all.
In Great Falls this weekend, giving uncle same my monthly dues. I’m that vein, my supervisor got himself I trouble with a 3 star general through me. We had a chemical attack drill, which required chemical gear. I missed the drill because I was at the dentist, so I had to do it by myself later on in the day. And while I was walking around in it, we had a visit from a general. I just happened to be on the flight line during their arrival: the only person on base in chem gear. Supervisor got to have a conversation regarding “hazing.” So that was exciting.
Congrats Russ, and happy birthday to the Mrs.

Evening Y'all, I got back from a 3 day shoot in Pennsylvania, weather during the day was nice, but got cold Friday overnight (46 degrees) I had a heavy sleeping bag and a heavy fleece blanket and I still froze my a$$ off. I went to the awards ceremony want when they got to Senior Duelist, the 4th place was a friend of mine that always shoots faster than I do, so I figured I was out of the running, then they called my name for 3rd place. To say I was shocked is an understatement. This is the first award I got since they went to age based categories.
-
We both thank you all for your good wishes on our 33rd. Major 2 congratulations on your 33rd also.
Sue says thanks for the birthday wishes.
Dinner was great for a first trip out to a real restaurant. The masks came off once we were in our booth, so we could talk and eat without constant face cover manipulation (some common sense prevails).
Now she gets to pick where we go this coming Saturday for her birthday. I have a feeling it's going to be the Steakhouse at the Boom-town Casino.
-
I’m a little late posting about 9/11. I was about ready to head for work when I saw the live video of the 2nd plane slicing into the side of the South Tower. Needless to say, I was late for work that morning.
When Kennedy was assassinated, I was in Junior High and moving from one class to my Social Studies class. Those classrooms had closed circuit TVs for class presentations, and they had all been set to local news programs for coverage of the tragedy. They dismissed all classes shortly thereafter. I remember walking home in a fog afterward.

Wife had an appointment at UNMC in Omaha today, new knees are coming, likely before Christmas. Like Guy Clark I was singing about getting off the freeway without getting killed or caught, grabbed the Highway #92 Exit and went through Wahoo and got a bunch of Wahoo wienies, , been over 20 years, they were saved from temporary extinction and are back. :D

The weather liars are saying that for the next 10 days, we'll have sunny skies and temps ranging from low 60's to mid 70's during the day and low of 40 to high of 53 during the night. Perfect autumn weather.
My friend in Foley Alabama sent me a text this morning, water is starting to come into her house by one of the windows and power has been going in and out all night. Cell service is the same. Please keep them in your thoughts during this storm. Thanks.

The other day Roo mentioned the Movie "Emperor" with Tommy Lee Jones
I decided to watch it, I won't say it was great film, but it did keep my interest , and showed a aspect of the post WWII I had not recalled seeing...
There are some post WWII Japan films ...I recall a comedy or two one with Glen Ford , and a musical I think.
"Emperor" however showed the devastation brought down to force Japan to surrender... worth a look see .

Slept about 11 hours last night, woke up feeling like I haven't felt in a long time, not going to over do it but have done as much in the last hour than I do most days. Lexie wants my homemade pancakes for supper, got some good local made bacon to go with it. Riley got in trouble for barking in French class today, squeaky toys in English yesterday. ;D Guess the teachers love him because he is so good most the time.

Funny you mention , that ....

Currently 45 degrees, with enough smoke to choke a horse. Visibility is around 2 miles.
The future Mrs is off at the barn doing some feeding and such to know a bit of board off from her bill once the new horse gets here. He’s going to be in for quite a shock once it starts snowing heavy. She got a few good blankets for him though.
Today is my first day at Autozone. I go in for training in a bit. First I have to do all of my other classes.
While we’re all in a prayer mood, my grandmother could use a few. She fell out of her work truck yesterday and broke her knee. She’s okay, but will probably need surgery.

Afternoon y'all.
Busy this morn. Helped the better-half with the neighbors chores. Delivered some 9mm ammo to a friend. Went to the "toy" store to "fix" two printers, and traded for a Colt Police Positive in .38 Colt New Police (.38 S&W) made in 1911. Bought two boxes of ammo for it, which was mostly paid for by the owner for the work I did for him this week.
Gonna put a ham in a dutch oven for supper.

She's doing a house cleaning today said I owe her my homemade pancakes for supper, not a problem. Her and "Her Dog" are taking a break, doing half and half on site and online school, some of them think he should come to on site school, but he does not like French Class, we figure it's since he don't know what they are talking about, he's been expelled from that one a couple times, once for loud squeaky toys and once for trying to close the laptop, and a couple times for barking. ::) On site days he reminds me about 2:45 to get ready and go get her. Of course he wants to go, she wakes me about 7:20 to take her and he jumps up and licks me because he wants to go.

Nice looking pistol
What is the difference in new police cartridges?
I am confused on this one- I was always understanding the Colt New Police was in .32 Np. It could chamber .32 colt but was not recommended. Then the Police positive changes are confusing as well.

The four horsemen of glumness are tiredness, boredom, rain and low blood-sugar level.
Any one can lead to minor glumness; all four together can lead to old cranky Bastard Syndrome.
In my case, its been raining all day, I was bored so I took a nap, and skipped lunch :-X
UH- OH !
-
The .38 Colt New Police is the same cartridge as a .38 S&W with the exception of having a flat nose bullet. Colt didn't want to put .38 S&W as the caliber marking on their pistols, so they came up with the .38NP loading.

Thanks for the info.

Brits called it the 38-200 because they used a 200 gr lead bullet in their Enfields till the Germans pulled Hauge rules on them in WWII and they went to a 150 gr FMJ. If I remember right the original BP loads were 200 gr and they went to 150-160 with smokeless for the most part.
-
I read somewhere that the jacketed bullet the Brits used was around 178 grains.
So the people using Mustard Gas were complaining about a lead bullet at what, 600 or 650 fps?
-
Another was the shotgun the Doughboys brought in 1918. The Germans complained too horrific for use during WW1 .
Ironically , they were first to use , * poisonous gas *
* France was the first to actually use Gas , but it was nonlethal Tear Gas.
-
I had ready the Germans paid bounty for killing capturing a soldier with a shotgun back then. Wasn’t there have no fact checking in place.
Morning - nice n cool out. Going to be a 2 cup Morning.

Gleaned from the internet
" In September 1918, the German government issued a diplomatic protest, complaining that the Model 97 Trench Gun was illegal because “it is especially forbidden to employ arms, projections, or materials calculated to cause unnecessary suffering” as defined in the 1907 Hague Convention respecting the Laws and Customs of War on Land.
When the Americans rejected this, the German high command then threatened to execute any soldier caught with a Trench Gun or even just Trench Gun shells.
General Pershing replied that, henceforth, any Germans caught with flamethrowers or saw-bladed bayonets would be lined up and shot. As far as is known, no American or German POWs were executed under such circumstances "

Currently 45 and clear today.
My mother is back home in California now, probably going to sleep the rest of the day.
Went on what will probably end up being the last fishing excursion of the season last night. Naturally, I forgot the tackle box. So I shoved a Slim Jim on a sinker I had rattling around the floor board, and pulled out some crawfish. I ultimately let them go, since I’m not so fond of seafood.
I made some applesauce last night out of a bag of apples that was bought and then forgotten. Only ended up with a jar and a half, but it came out pretty good.

i think your ideal of enjoying life... was your work. Hard to stop sometimes- I wanted to be like you. Health hit me hard. I am the wrong one to ask. Yet you might find something else that will keep you busy. Maybe less profitable money wise. However for your energy and mindset. It might be the thing. Build a custom car or truck. Take up saddle making.
Good luck with your efforts

Major 2,
you don't strike me as a "guess-I'll-just-put-myself-out-to-pasture" fellow.
More like "Crud!-I'm-busier-now-than-I-was-when-working!"
"Oh the fun you will have

How the projects blossomed
into many from few.
One thing for sure, tho-
this new Boss is a jerk.
He keeps trying to turn
all this fun into work."

Thank you Roo....
Funny you mention saddle making...I built probably 20 or so 1859 McClellan saddles...
Several Hope saddles and a couple of Grimsley saddles in my Cavalry reenacting days...and several for films.
I built the Transitional Grimsley Saddle Martin Sheen rode in "Gettysburg" but lost it in my Barn fire in 2011 :(
Pretty much been there done that :)
-
Wow what great saddles. Get back to it. I am sure there is a market for them.
The bottom one, reminds me of what some call a Plantation saddle.
-
The bottom one is a copy of the 1847 Dragoon saddle I think I made 3 or 4
one I rode , sold 2 (the 1st. one & the 3rd )
I made 2 Hopes ...I have a photo somewhere of them ...sold both ,but did ride both
McClellan's I was most prolific, lost count but probably 20 +
Sadly, these days , the labor and materials there'd be little profit to set up again :-\
besides arthritis in my hands would flair up slowing the whole affair.... :(

Greetings all.
Rainy and 45 today. Fall has beset us.
I went fishing last night, except I forgot my tackle box, so I put a shiny gum wrapper on a hook I found by the river and used that until it got snagged and broke off. Then I went for a hike and saw an elk cow.
Major, I know that the guy we bought this horse from makes saddles on the side, and he says the arthritis is a bit tough. He also priced his at $8k :o
Looks like my life may get shaken up a bit here soon: more to come on that.

When we found out retiring or not had about the same income, actually a little better on retiring it was no having to think about it. In fact Rita was at SS office checking the details and I was down the street parked so I could let here off and pick her up at the door. She called, said I was getting a phone call when she hung up, answer the questions you are retiring. Was between jobs and no one wanted me so I didn't argue.
Things are turning around quick now on the health, ready to start getting the workshop ready starting next week, hour or two a day. Despite the problems I got a lot done this year, got some excellent files docs on cooking with pictures part of editing my book which I haven't forgotten, planned on getting certain pictures this year. Got some people think some of that ought to be put in pamphlet form to sell, might be a good idea, winter projects.

Besides, retiring would make it easier for you to make it to a Muster. ;) I think you would be hooked, we never have too many old fat guys. ;D

Is that company wide? I haven't shopped there since they started requiring masks. As for the direction arrows, I just ignored them, but on particularly ornery days I made it a point to shop "against the arrows"

I've seen the arrows in the grocery store, never saw the first "indigenous person" of color ::)
The "wheel house of interest" was a nice Romanian Mil-spec AK-47 my running pard had been looking for.
He bought it....US made enhanced trigger , chrome line barrel , all wood furniture .

Morning all.
45 and raining here. May go drown some worms later, but that depends on if I get called in to work today or not. I’m hoping not. They made me move 30 car batteries yesterday and I saw more on the pallet when I left. ::)
I may try to make a migration to a toy store as well today. I’m thinking of trading my M70 featherweight in to snag something in a cheaper caliber to shoot. The 280 is a great caliber, but at $1.70 a pop, it’s stretching my wallet a bit thin. Cabela’s had a nice early model Ruger M77 in ‘06 a while back, and a few other items of interest.

I would stay away from the early Ruger M77's, if the reports I have heard are true. Not the best accuracy because of the barrels. Later, Ruger started making better barrels.
Got home at 20:45, yesterday. Had a good time despite going rained out yesterday. I shot when it was starting to sprinkle. Micah shot after me when it was raining harder. Then we decided to stop and see if it would quit. Waited over an hour and eat early lunch. It didn't stop completed until after 1400. Therefore, only Al Weaver, Micah and I shot yesterday.
It was a good shoot on Saturday. Micah hit the 500 yd target 2 of 10 with the sporter 1901 Krag. I hit 4 of 10 with the same. Quickfire hit it 5 times with his Sharps. Al hit it 4 time with his 1889 Schmidt-Rubin. Al had a shorter time so he beat me out of second place.
I disassembled and cleaned guns 'til 0300. Therefore, I am going to take a nap it a bit, then do some verk from home.
Tis 52 and overcast. "Steady light rain this morning. Showers continuing this afternoon. High 57F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 90%."

I’ve heard similar. I bought my mom a 243 with a bull barrel, dated ‘71. It shoots 1/2 moa with most stuff. No promise that I would get so lucky a second time.

Only one way to find out.
My parents arrived from MI in their RV. They'll be here a few days before heading south for the winter.

Coffee is ready... had some pretty nice rain showers last evening. Tempatures are more fall like this morning. Oh wait it is fall.
Not sure what going to have for breakfast. Bacon and eggs or a fried bologna and egg on toast sandwich. Maybe just scrambled and home fries. Just ain’t ready to get started.
