I believe I would haul them myself. My experience has been that moving companies do not always hire the most outstanding individuals....at least around here.

I've always hauled them myself.

Most movers are bonded and use bonded drivers, but personal valuables can't be replaced as easily as damaged electronics or furniture.

PLEASE follow the above advice if possible - I worked in the Moving & Stg business for 12 years and would never ship my guns via them...they were the number one lost/stolen item followed by electronics....

Jubal:

I'm sure that most moving companies would be willing to move them, but I cannot think of any who I would trust to move them.  Had a commander once who lost his entire collection to the movers.  The company's insurance limit was reached pretty quickly.  Although his personal insurance paid off, he was still looking for replacements two years later on some of the scarce or obsolete models.  Don't know if he ever did find replacements for all of them.

You have to move the ammo yourself anyway, might as well make some room for the guns and family heirlooms as well.

During my twenty years in the Air Force I always moved my guns and ammo in my own vehicles.  I never would trust them to a third party.  It ain't always easy, but it is necessary in my opinion.

Hi,

If you do plan to move them, this box and two little locks will pass scrutiny ....

Although a bit pricey, I use the box to transport my rifles to SASS events ... even lleafe my pistols in the cases and transport them too ....

30 some years ago I worked for United and we shipped them. We did not mark the contents on the boxes usually a wardrobe box for long guns. Outta site out of mind. Personally I wouldn't trust anyone these days to haul them.

I went with your advice and moved 'em myself, a 1200 mile move from VA to the upper midwest. Glad I did, too, because I had lots of damage and some missing power tools.   Thanks to all for your input.
