Cleaning scale out of a coffee pot.
« on: September 15, 2006, 03:03:34 PM »
The pot is an old dark-blue-with-white-speckles 30 cup graniteware.

Used the boiling vinegar for years.

Neighbor says you can cut the time in half or more by using denture cleaning tablets or Alka-Setzer.

Comment?

Also, the enamel is chipping around the bottom of the lid.  Any cure?  Any danger in using it that way?

Give them a try and report back.  As for the chips it will just add a bit of iron to the coffee.

Cleans road crud off a windshield, too.  ("Windscreen" for our non-Engish speaking pards from Great Britain and down under.)

Actually it's really very good for you.  Sorta like de-leading and cleaning a gun barrel.   Polishes up your innards so they shine like new penny.  The doc can shine a light down your throat while you say "AHHHH", and the nurse can stand behind you and make shadow puppets on the wall.

Yep the denture cleaner will work. It's gross to talk about but dirty dentures are cause by dried saliva which is just calcium in crystal form so the denture cleanser will remove the calcium deposits on your coffee pot too. don't ask me what the denture cleanser is. i just know it works, remember i am a denture manufacturer. Oh thats wierd. Oh well somebody has to do it.

I have been told by an old time boiler operator that they used to remove scale in donkey boilers buy boiling potatoes in them.  he said it works for pots also.

Might give it a try.  just boil up your next batch of potatoes in your coffee pot! ;D
