 Thanks Sir for the links.

They will be of a lot of utility for me, because I´m very curious with the rules and I like to know differents types.

Wouldn't hurt to addin the RO manuals under the SASS rules.  Also guess I will not be shooting NCOWS, No gunfighter class, No Hollywood rigs.  Not much in it for me.  Now W3Gun if it was available with in a couple of hours I would get involved.

Howdy,
The Marshal's links to the SASS Handbooks will now take you to the updated 2009  versions.

The consolidated "Significant Changes" (http://www.sassnet.com/Downloads/RO/Significant%20Changes%202009.pdf) (with page references) that is published annually post-Summit for member review, TG presentation and RO refresher has been posted in the NEW "RO's Corner"  (http://www.sassnet.com/ROCorner.php) on the SASS homepage.
This link is also posted on the OOWSS (http://oowss.com/ROCornerIndex.htm) website.

Regards,

PaleWolf

I wondered about no tie downs on holsters?   Geez that seems dangerous.  What's the reason, ascetics?   Sure hard to get mine out loose!

I wondered about no tie downs on holsters?   Geez that seems dangerous.  What's the reason, ascetics?   Sure hard to get mine out loose!

The reasons for that, G.P., is NCOWS desires to be more faithful to the actual history of the era we ape.

Firstly the type of holsters that were historically worn were the kind that had the loop behind the body of the holster for the belt to thread through, so when worn rode higher on the belt and thus were solidly supported. They are held tightly against the body thus no need for a tie down.

If we're talking about Buscaderos, which came after the heyday of general carrying of a sidearm in the 19th century(and primarily are a Hollywood element introduced into the popular conception of what the Old West must have been like ;)),- ride below the belt and will thus pull up when un-holstering. Hollywood invented the idea that every gun owner was a gunslinger, and wore tied down holsters so that the gun could be whipped out to settle any imagined score. (Same myth we fight so hard to dispell today. That all gun owners are itching to shoot their fellow man. Or woman.)

NCOWS members are not having trouble, nor creating a safety issue, by not having a tie down when pulling their revolvers.

OK I read the SASS rules and it didn't really say anything about which category your in if you shoot two handed or did I read over it and miss something??? ???

"any shooting style..." covers "two-handed".
This is allowed in all "age based", Frontier Ctg, and "B" Western.
All category descriptions specify which shooting style(s) are allowed.

Quote
AGE BASED
....
• Revolvers may be shot any style except Gunfighter.

DUELIST
...
• Only Duelist Style or Double Duelist Style may be used.

GUNFIGHTER
...
• Only Gunfighter Style or Double Duelist Style may be used.

FRONTIER CARTRIDGE
...
• Revolvers may be shot two handed or one handed (duelist style).

Frontier Cartridge Duelist is also recognized with all requirements being the same except the Duelist and Double Duelist shooting styles are used.
See Duelist description for the required shooting technique(s).

FRONTIERSMAN
...
• Revolvers must be shot duelist or double duelist style. See Duelist description for required shooting technique.

CLASSIC COWBOY/COWGIRL
...
• Revolvers must be shot duelist or double duelist style. See Duelist description for required shooting technique.

“B” WESTERN
...
• Revolvers may be shot in any SASS–legal shooting style, at the shooters discretion.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find those and fix the links after lunch.

:-\  Copied and pasted and broke the grid.  So much for a quick fix.

Ok I modified Marshal's original post to fix the links.  CMSA doesn't provide a rulebook to non-members so that link was removed.
