Massachusetts purchased 1865 Spencer carbines
« on: January 09, 2023, 08:11:34 PM »
I have 1865 Spencer carbine (not a burnside). I strongly believe it is one that was purchased by Massachusetts at the end of the way. Is there any information about the carbine’s Massachusetts purchased anywhere?

Thank you for any assistance
Robert

Need photos of the receiver area, especially the top?  Why do you think it's an 1865 Spencer?  Need the serial #?  Any markings on the wood/receiver area?

Here are a couple of pics. I posted it on the civil war talk forum back in 2021. Got a lot of good info on the rifle. Really looking for any info on the carbines purchased by Massachusetts, and any units they may have gone to

Thank you
Robert

MA did buy carbines.
I had a Springfield trapdoor 45 70 that had the barrel cut to carbine length and a full wood stock.  unusual.
it had MASS   deeply and professionally stamped in the receiver.

     I always wondered too.   just a note...Ken
