I heard the reported problem with check-mate '92 magazines..seems like a long time ago (13?-14?). The problem was solved when the pistol engineer got with the rifle engineer & they agreed that coating the pistol magazine with hard-cure solid film lube (used on rifle mags) was worth testing. Worked great. And, then it was quickly adopted. Improved lubricity for feeding & also stopped corrosion issues of the steel magazine. Next problem was Beretta didn't really want to make parts or guns matching those already in service (for compatibility requirements). Hence the M17.

Two of the old-school engineers talked about bringing back the thumper & had the office 1911 (cutaway) pistol disassembled on a table & were making a short list of improvements... One was adding solid film lube to some of the parts, including the magazine.

I believe Metalform made govt 1911 mags at one time. A Colt engineer may have mentioned they made them for Colt - but they cost more with Colt markings, of course. 😆

A vendor at the local gun show had 1911 magazines for $15 each. No brand name on them, but made in Korea. I took a chance on 2 magazines. Tested them today. They both worked, but one of them self destructed when I ejected it. I have all of the pieces, but it is junk.

Looking over my current "herd" of WB magazines a few days ago, I find 4 Metalform -welded base plate. I've been using them for 6-7 years with no troubles. However, one looked a bit mis-shaped on the "welded" floorplate. I see one weld looks a bit weak/cracked. That's no good - Moved it to the "parts/repair" box. I see the other 3 have a similar looking weak weld, but are still holding tight. I pulled 2 old mags from the box -of which the bases can be removed (and can do so - unexpectedly - when inserting) Got out my 6-32 tap & threaded the hole in the inner tab & installed a screw to snug it all tight - very solid now, but have yet to test them.

Seeing a possible shortcoming in serviceable mags, I put some MecGar mags on order. So, I'll see how they're constructed one of these days. Meanwhile I'm cutting some leather base pads.

I try not to drop empty (worse loaded😲) mags onto a hard surface - wooden deck, concrete 😳 I know that's bad news. I recall a couple mishaps like that in the past couple years. Note to self - don't drop them.

Right!  So, the lanyard ring mag goes in at the loading table and starts the stage. 
I didn't like the leather pads when first approved, but then I had my first palm pinch, yow!!  After installing the pads I notice they also help with seating the mag.  And maybe cause less shock to the mag when dropped on the ground, although I try to drop it on a prop when possible.  I'm verrrry slow changing mags.

Hi Prof, I can't say who makes the Ed Brown mags, they just have an EB logo on them.  But I've had no problems with them.

I am not familiar with the Adco Super Thumb, you show in your photo.
So, I looked it up on the net and watched their video....

In it the presenter, boasts the cost is about $10 
($9.99 and Discontinued @ Midway) Amazon $11.00
Ebay $8.00.

Several years ago I paid $28.95 for a Maglula Uplula 9mm-45 ACP (now about $34.95)

It works !  double stack, single stack , 9MM or 45 ACP ...
 I bought it on a recommendation for my SIG 365 9MM which has arguably the MEANIST double stack magazine on the planet to load. (Hellcat owners will argue the point! )

It made a sweet gun's *itch of a magazine a joy to load.... and it loads my 1911 Mag's as a plus.

I've had that Adco super thumb for over 20 years.  I know there are some other nicer ones.  The 1911 mags I usually just reload by hand at a match, and just use the Adco when loading all at once before a match.  For my .45 and 9mm Glocks I use the one that came with them.  Back then with the 10 round mag limit it was near impossible to get that tenth round in without some help!

I agree, I usually loaded the 7 in my 1911 magazines by hand.
 
   But it is a royal PiTA with Sig 365, after maybe 2 or 3 rounds near imposable without a loader.
      Since I have the Uplula, I use it with all my 9MM & the 1911 too.

My Ruger SR9 was furnished with a loader for double stack mags. I can't load a magazine without it.

I bought one for single stack mags on Amazon. Name on it is "Racine.com". It works for 9mm single stack and also works on the 1911 .45acp. Don't remember what I paid for it.

When I won the Door Prize Glock it came with an obligatory loader.
  A plastic monstrosity that was wobbly and flexy at best, it was suggest I get the Shotmaker.
I traded off the Glock, the obligatory plastic OWB holster thingy, the wobbled/flexy thingy, and the 3 mag's
all came with the gun and left with it.
I kept the Shotmaker???  the Uplula then superseded it. 

I'm not meaning to post a testimonial, but I do like the Maglula.
