But...a few words anyway. 
I was thinking that surely such a testimonial would have been included in Winchester's 1875 Catalog, which contained 18 pages of testimonials to the '73 (plus two pages to the '66 and six pages to the '60).  And sure enough, it is, although they did not include the targets nor the last paragraph about the targets, nor the serial number.  Although, to be fair, mine is a reproduction and maybe Hutton's targets were in original catalogs, or it could have been in some other advertisement.  Bryan, do you know the source?  In those 26 total pages, there is only a single testimonial with a target.  Interestingly, the 1873 catalog (which features the '66 since the '73 wasn't in production when printed) is chock full of targets and factory testing.

Yes sir I do...Winchester...I am working on getting the rest of the information. It was reported that Winchester sent out a brochure on the 73' at some point shortly thereafter and I think I found it......which is where I got the above target by Hutton.

There are no less than 62 model 1873 testimonies in the 1875 catalog.

I have seen these testimonials before but that was 25-30 years ago.  From these and other sources I believe the standard of accuracy, for hunting and defense, was keeping all your shots in a 4" circle at 100 yards.

I worked on getting my original (1887) '73 to shoot that with my black powder hand loads. It would do that and more.  I once managed a seven inch 5 shot group at 200 yards.  All this with the original barrel mounted Iron sights.

I gotta post this again, it ain't black powder, and I used a Malcolm 6x scope on my Uberti 73', but 4" is 4" right?
My Group - 3.3"
Doc's Group - 3.78" If I scaled his target wrong, it is even closer.
