New Indiana District holding Musters
« on: February 16, 2021, 07:58:00 AM »
I received this from Dewayne Liebhandt:

Here are the dates we are planning to shoot. No guarantee that it will be everything people are used to, but we are just starting and trying to do our best. The dates are April 17, June 19, and August 21. We will try to have our safety Brief around 10:00 AM and Registration starting maybe around 9:00 AM just like we do our NCOWS shoots. We were thinking of charging people $10 to shoot which will help us get funds for targets etc. I will keep you posted as we progress along. Take care for now and any suggestions or commits, just send our way. God bless!

We will start our registration for the Muster at 9:00 AM. We will have a Safety Brief and begin shooting at 10:00. Please bring your own lunch. There will be a $10 charge to shoot. I don’t think we will have the Uniform part of a normal Muster for this year until we have time to learn how to accomplish that. We will take about it with those who show up in April. We want everyone to know this is our first attempt to do this so our main goal is to have fun and be safe. As we learn more we will work hard to include everything in a normal Muster as people step up and contribute their time and abilities.

I have included directions to the range from Martinsville, IN These are just a couple of ways to get to Mahalasville Rd. Feel free to Google map it though and choose other alternate routs. This construction even makes it difficult for our NCOWS shooters as well. Please be advised that since it is under construction for the entire 2021 year, we never know when they may change and close off any of this crossings.I just checked Google Map and they have IN-37 closed and will give you choices. Sorry for any inconvenience, but we are not in control of this situation!

Mahalasville Rd. at IN 37 is closed.
IN 37 is under construction to become I-65 and is currently diverted just north of Martinsville to Old IN 37 near the Gulf Course. This road turns into Morgan St. You can follow Morgan St towards downtown and turn left on Ohio St. and follow it past the Kroger and Rural King and cross the construction on IN 37 where it turns into Mahalsville. Rd.

If you are coming from the South you have to exit at IN 39 on the south end of Martinsville. Follow it to the first stop light and turn right. This will take you past the McDonalds and Starbucks. Cross the construction on IN 37 and take there first left in front of the Taco Bell which is an access road. It will dead end on Mahalasville Rd. You swill see a Walgreens on your left. Turn right and follow the rest of the directions listed below.

Follow Mahanalsville Rd. to the T intersection. (5.5 Miles of twists and turns)

Turn Right on County Rd 450 S This is Bear Wallow Rd. (Drive for 2 Miles)

Bear Wallow Rd. Turns into Bear Creek Rd. about where the pavement ends.(Follow that for 1 mile and the Range will be on your left.)

Follow that to the coordinates 39º 19' 41.9" N 86º 21' 29.02" W

This is approximately 8201 Bear Creek Rd. on the Left.

Any question or more information needed, just let me know. Take care and God bless!

Hi Chuck
If memory serves, there's an LST commonly docked in Evansville ID that might could be an extra part of the road trip.  I wouldn't take your bike if you're bringing a Krag, Illinois isn't sure firearms should exist, and that's down state.

Yeah, usually I roll my shorty trapdoor up in a quilt or sleeping bag, put that in my old seabag and strap it on the back.  Have to be good weather though.  MIght have to have a look at old 325.  I went aboard her in 2005 when she went visited Norfolk VA.  I even saw her once back in her Greek Navy days.  Did not realize they homeported her in Indiana!  The joys of shallow draft.

Hmmm. A bike ride to a muster. Camping at range possible? Round count, number of stages, number of targets per stage? Got 2 shortys that could "hide" on the bike, Berthier or Carcano, don't currently have enough clips for either for a long stage.

I"m pretty sure she was built in Evansville (Nope, Philly).  Two of my great aunts worked at the ship yards during WW2.  There used to be a decent museum on the site, but I bet it's gone now.  If memory serves they slid in sideways and the ways were still there back in the 1970's.

Looking at the possibility. Internet driving directions says about 8 hr via 50. That's a lot of "saddle time" for early in the season, considering I've had one 10 minute ride so far this year! Just ordered a couple more Carcano clips and 4 Berthier. Should have bought more of those $10 each clips for the Berthier way back when. And Carcano clips were quite a bit cheaper before that stash of carbines started coming in from Ethiopia.

As much as I would like to attend, going to pass on April shoot. Driving to NCOWS convention (trip from hell!”), tainted returning to Indiana next month. 6.5 hour drive took me 8.5 hours. Indianapolis is a black hole that drains you!
Liked attending NCOWS, start to return to normal. 1, am vaccinated, shouldn’t need to wear ppe, I was in the minority who did. Event hall specified mask required, saw little/no enforcement.
A little warmer to attending, as route avoids Indianapolis. MapQuest puts it at 6 hours, 9  minutes, no other conflicts, so wait & see.
Further warm up, 1 free night at Hotels.com.
After a couple shots, made reservations.
Later canceled, have previous commitment.
Brian

Looks to be 3 skirmish runs and a precision pistol match.  Say 60 rifle and 30 handgun. Sounds like they have a couple of ravines they can work with.  Looking forward to it.

I am new a this guys, so please be patient. Thanks! We will have three skirmish runs, and a precision pistol match. The skirmishes will have a maximum of 38 rifle targets and18 pistol targets. Still working out the details and thanks to Drydock for his help on this. So what Drydock said in round counts should work. Of course that depends on how much you miss, right! If you are planning to attend, please let me know. We are not providing any lunch so please plan accordingly. We will address that issue later. Registration will begin 9:00 AM and start shooting at 10:00 AM. If you have any questions or need more information, please email me at dl1976jl@icloud.com or call/text me at 317-448-3458. I will also keep you posted on the other scheduled Musters after we get through this one. Everyone take care and God bless!
