The blade is just under 5 inches. The sheath looks like it was carried inside a trouser or equipment belt. It could possibly be carried as a boot knife. I have a cut-down Sheffield carving knife that approximates this knife, without the guard. I now have an idea of the sheath I will make for it.

I was hoping it was here in Texas on display. It is probably in a box in the basement at the Smithsonian. Thanks for the link .
