Shirt cuff buttons
« on: November 10, 2005, 03:14:05 PM »
Most modern shirts have two buttons on the sleeve's cuff to adjust the size of the shirt sleeve opening. The Frontier Classics shirt I have also has two. Now to my question, how long has the two button cuff been around?

He was, I'll do some checking, but I think the date back as far as factory made shirts.  There were less sizes to choose from than even today and it makes them fit more folks. ;D

If I wern't at home for a few days I bet I could find it quick at work.  I bet there is at least one or more will show on the SB collection up on full enhance.   ;D  It takes a cup of coffee to download those here at home. ::)

I believe Del is correct, but don't have any additional information.  You'll notice that shirts with two buttons are made to fit two arm lengths.  Shirts that are made to fit one length have only one button and still exist, but are oftentimes more expensive.

I have seen pictures of the Kaiser's (?) guards with four shirt cuff buttons, ca about 1770.  No idea on civilian shirts.

I ain't forgot, it's just when I've been at work I've been to busy to do any lookin'.  The month of January is slow so I'll hop to it.  Should have been doin' while I was off but it takes so long to download those picures on dial up. ;D  Not bad if you know the picure to study, but flustratin' when you are going to look at several dozen or more.

It just occurred to me that you are probably not talking about the number of buttons around the cuff, but along the cuff.  I have two Wah Maker shirts which also feature two buttons along the cuff.

Yeah, Del.  What is the story?
