Shirt placket
« on: May 22, 2010, 08:52:11 PM »
I'm making my first shirt and I'm struggling with the placket. There seem to be raw edges from where the shirt front is cut vertically after the initial stitching. I'm probably being dim-witted. Can anyone point me towards a tutorial? The instructions given seem unclear. Thanks in advance, pards.

Can you post a picture of the problem?  The placket should cover the edges.  It's been a while since I made a shirt so it's not real fresh right now in my mind.

One of the easy ways. Lay the shirt out right side out.  Put the placket with the right side down  on the OUTSIDE sew it down. Stich to the Front layer of the shirt only. I am guessing you have already cut the slit for the neck.   Now turn the placket to the inside of the shirt. Now sew around on the outside of the shirt front very close to the edge of the seam of the  slit  and placket to make it lay down. The raw edges should now be to the inside. Hope this helps. Celeste
