:)  PLUS ONE for Abilene  ;)

The original Colt Open Top was specifically developed as a "partner" for the 1860 Henry Improved (Winchester 1866) and was only chambered for production In 44 Rim Fire.  (44 Stetson).  It has been rumored Colt also built two Prototype Open Top guns in 44 Central Fire.  No one I know of has ever seen one, and Colt was known, as was Winchester, to sell their proto guns when they were done piddling with them.

That's pretty cool and the pricing is great - I am guessing if you call the number they have not stocked them in years? How would you even find that?

These particular '87's were brought in from China a few months ago.  Various online dealers have had them and there have been discussions of them here and there.  It appears that while they could use an action job for any serious CAS use, they are fully functional out of the box.

Matt,

Checked on your serial # 16732  .  .  . closest match to your serial # is 16730, a Spencer carbine issued to Company E, 7th Penna Volunteer Cavalry in February, 1865.  Your Spencer MAY HAVE BEEN ISSUED to the same unit.

Please read my Spencer Serial # Disclaimer at this link for more information:  https://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php?topic=49949.0

Spencer Shooting Society / Help with 1860 Spencer carbine sn#16732
« Last post by Matthew Bowen on April 03, 2024, 03:55:57 PM »
Hello I was wondering if anyone out there can help me with information on the serial # of my Spencer Model 1860 Carbine. This carbine was passed down to me recently from my father. Gun belonged to my GG Grandfather. I have been able to get a good clean look at the sn and it is 16732. The barrel is 22'' and doesn't look to have been altered in any way. Trying to find what State or company Spencer could have been issued to. Thanks  Matt B

Is this an original OT Colt's or a replica in ".44 Colt's"? The reason I ask is because the modern so-called .44 Colt's are really short .44 Russians with a slightly different rim diameter. If so, you could even shorten .44 Magnum brass.
Maybe you misspoke, but the .44 Colt is longer than the Russian, between Russian and Special length.  And actually, the original OT's were not in 44 Colt, but 44 Rimfire.

Good day!  I inherited a JM Marlin in 45 colt from my dad, HH Hipshot.  He loved the CAS group.

So, was hoping for some direction valuing the 45.  I'll attach pics.

Thanks in advance.

I can't say too much good about Cimarron's website these days - often out of date and hard to navigate - but here it is:
